To clarify, it's not that the 'visited' status needs to be featured. It's just a matter that text links should always be obvious and easy to visually scan for.  Even for people with low vision or crappy monitors, without having to adjust their browse settings.

I  changed the Visited / Unvisited colours in my browser (FF) and as far as I could see it made no difference whatsoever to the appearance of links within Groups.io.

As a rule this is not something that bothers me on Groups.io but I can see Jason's point. Another site I regularly use has links that change from blue to an unmistakable red once visited.

To add

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C is an international community that develops open standards to ensure the long-term growth of the Web) says:

Use a contrast ratio of 3:1 with surrounding text and providing additional visual cues on focus for links or controls where color alone is used to identify them

See recommended standards: https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20-TECHS/G183.html

Groups.io is fantastic in many ways. This would make it easier to use for more people.

If you look in the latest version of the Members Manual (dated yesterday, 1st May) you will find that the information is included there. See section 15 of the pdf version.

The "sharing action" is in place...

It is also in the Owners Manual, although perhaps it's not so easy to find.

This is great news. It should be widely shared with the entire groups.io community.

I'd imagine contrast needs to be worked on in general, not just the wiki page. But yes, this should be fixed. Contrast in general.

Based on some quick research, modern browsers have a setting to override page settings for Visited and Unvisited links, so anything used on a site such as Groups.io is only a suggested default.  If someone is using those settings in their browser, changes made here wouldn't apply anyway.  I believe this #bug should be a #suggestion, if anything.

We don't add CC lines anymore. My guess is that whoever is sending the message is adding that CC line (or their email client is). We strip a bunch of email headers, but CC is not one. IIRC, we used to strip it, but people complained.

Depending on monitor contrast levels, it can be very difficult to see the difference between grey links and normal text in the wiki.

In terms of accessibility, like for users with reduced vision, this is a real problem that could be easily fixed with higher contrast color in the CSS.

See WCAG 2.0 and Link Colors for best practice.

Please fix :-)

  • INTERNAL: We now clean up unused RSS feeds in the database.
  • INTERNAL: On an edited message, check if the digest message exists already before adding it, to prevent postgres log messages.
  • INTERNAL: Changed nginx log format back to combined to goaccess can parse user agents.
  • INTERNAL: Work to make it easier to add additional FBL providers.

4/27/20:

  • API: /getevent wasn't obeying the group calendar permissions setting.

Take care everyone.

This is a fatal flaw.

Especially if you have multiple pages interlinked and then change the title of one.

Many other wikis and CMS have solved this.  Maybe just needs a search & replace script across all wiki pages any time a title (thus URL) is changed.

Perma link ID works too, although makes for ugly URLs, I'd take that over broken links.

Pretty please.

Yes, that is correct. Sorry for any confusion.

moderated include auto-sending of group guidelines in activity log #suggestion #done

It seems odd that the sending of the monthly group guidelines, whose date is included and displayed in "last message sent," is not included in the activity log. You see "May 1" for last message sent, and the activity log shows nothing beyond Ap 27, for example. It's easy to quickly figure out the reason for the disparity, but it's a little odd at first glance. So the suggestion is to include the sending of the group guidelines in the activity log.

moderated Size limit changes #update

Hi All,

Previously, we've had the following size limits for all groups:

Emails: 100MB
Photos: 100MB
Files: 100MB

For premium and enterprise groups, I've raised the Photos and Files limits to 500MB. I've kept the max email size the same because many (all?) email service providers have limits on the size of emails they will accept. I don't have specifics, but my gut says the majority limit message sizes to something under 100MB.

(Photos and Files referring to uploaded photos to the Photos section and uploaded files to the Files section).

On the TODO list is work to better support better file/photo uploads, allowing for pausing and restarting transfers and dealing better with unreliable network connections. I don't have a timeframe on that, however.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Mark

moderated List-Id change rollback #update

Hi All,

Over the last weekend, I made a change to the List-Id header, adding the group's id as a prefix. The idea is that I'd be able to use this to help identify messages sent via the FBL mechanism where we receive spam reports (sometimes email providers will counter-productively obscure identifying information in these messages). This change was to be announced in tomorrow night's #changelog, as I didn't think it was a big deal. I have just now rolled back this change, for two reasons. 1) It turns out I don't really need it to identify FBL messages, and more importantly 2) many more people than I thought use the LIst-Id header to filter email, and the change broke those filters.

So, sorry, I didn't know. It's been rolled back.

Thanks, Mark

Hi,

Is there an integration with Google Photos?  If not, are there options to build one?

Thank you,

Ran into this again yesterday.  I guess someone decide to see what would happen and gave ownership of one of their photos to someone else, so I had to change it back.
