Take a look at their documentation on importing, or exporting contacts.
It is even more obtuse, and inadequately documented.
Install and use the _Import Export Extension_.

It would also, and maybe more importantly, give them to option to reject inappropriate material (not that anyone would ever do that😊 ).

Download works well. Extraction of messages ends up as .mbox. I know it is a UNIX type but have to find out how to open it to see indivdual messages.

A Notification about a File upload is available as an option to whoever uploads the file; I don't think there is a Moderator - level option to force a notification, though.
