Mark,
Thanks for this! It's a big improvement. :-)

Well, I can’t a priori tell problem group members to do stuff with their gmail folders. I will just avoid sending from owner from now on. I think the new “Group Moderator” name is causing or contributing to this. I never noticed the problem before.

Sounds like normal gmail behavior when you use default settings, "Gmail automatically groups and highlights emails in the Promotions tab that people are most likely to engage with."  I have all the gmail stuff set the way I want it (i.e., no categories), not the way Google wants it.  Unfortunately, I have to go in every once in awhile and 'fix' the things Google has broken with a recent "upgrade".

moderated "Group Moderator' messages going into Promotions folders #misc

I'm not sure about whether this is now occurring more frequently than before the change, but owner messages from "Group Moderator" have been going into members' "promotions" folders in gmail and they're not getting them. What can be done about this, on either side? I'm inclined to stop sending messages from the owner address at all any more. These are messages that you particular want to make sure the group member receives.

I see no evidence of them counting if they're just in the calendar. However, if you have weekly or bi-weekly Upcoming Events messages created (those with the #cal-summary hashtag) then each time they are posted to the group, you will get multiple copies of the same images in your Emailed Photos album and they do count towards your storage limit then.

Also, if the images are large enough, they can slow down the display of the calendar as I found out earlier this year..

There's no mention of this in the help.

Thanks,

Third time's the charm. I reshot the image and pasted it in again and now everything works as it should. I don't know what the problem was.

Strike that. The image actually shows up only for me when I'm logged in as owner and the creator of the event. When I'm logged in as another member, it does not - same as the screen shot in my previous message.

(I'm not sure whether to make this a bug or a suggestion. I'm leaning toward bug.)

My group calendar is public, and I have created an event whose description field contains an in-line image. The image shows up fine for anyone who is a member, but it does not show up for non-members. It's replaced by the broken image acon, as below.

The 'legitimate' email addresses all seem to be masked as they should, but the munged addresses are still visible.  That's likely to be a bit more work. ;>)

Hi,

This should be fixed now.

In the above case, Thunderbird seems to handle it OK as it will exclude the <email address> bit from the "On ... wrote" line if it thinks the email address is "invalid" but Gmail includes it regardless.  On the other hand, Tbird replies don't seem to get masked on both the regular or munged address
Another data point:  I've been able to clarify, thanks to a member that 'creates' this problem, that another client is Forte Agent.

Oh, cool. I'm slightly behind the curve then. Should I post ones here that escape the algorithm? No, just checked that thread you linked. That looks like it could be a better place to suggest further tags, unless its age precludes that.

They could be *more* easily identifiable.

have you considered either muting the #photo-notice hashtag or turning off the moderator notification?

No and I would not want to do either of those things.

Exactly! That’s my whole point.

Oops, I didn't notice that you said that already in the first message.

Anyway, I agree with you that saying "Album owner" is better; that's the point I was making too.

I think my reply may be off-topic.  But many pet custodians no longer call themselves "owners", any more than they would say own their human children.

While on the one hand they might not think "owner of Fluffy", they also might be offended by wording that implies cat ownership.

(Anyway, does anyone ever own a cat?  Isn't it the other way around?)  :-)

Of course, if you wish to see a longer subject line, you can simply rotate the phone to landscape mode:

It would be helpful if the actual message titles were distinct.
If having two notifications is still confusing then have you considered either muting the #photo-notice hashtag or turning off the moderator notification?

The members of our group will see "owner" and never in a million years think it means the owner of the album. They will think (as even I did), "Owner of Fluffy." And no harm is done to any other group by changing it to "Album Owner."
