Already available. Groups can be listed or unlisted in the directory. Their archives can be public or private (if the group is unlisted, the archives are private).

But - Steve is right. I am owner of a couple of groups - no longer, or
never, on Yahoo - where it is a closed group of people, and the only way
in is for someone who is a member propose or ask about

Mine would not want to be findable. The people who qualify for membership in groups that I moderate or own learn about us through other sources. They then request membership directly. We do not wish

Special Notices, it is done
Ok, I flip flopped. I just pushed to the site the option for subscriptions to be set to special notices only. And there's a checkbox in the group post screen to indicate that a post is a special

This is a good use of hashtags. Create a hashtag for each subject. Then set your group so that messages must include at least one hashtag, and that members cannot create new hashtags. People will

That's an interesting thought but I'm not sure it would improve anything. At this point, I've got to believe that most(all?) modern email clients have been hardened against these kinds of attacks.

Someone may have already said this, but the moderator/owner might need to send important notices, regardless of the users choice like welcome, netiquette, warnings, notice the person will be blocked,
