The [partial] email address is displayed to other members in the Directory only if the Display Name field is unpopulated.
It would make sense to me to force people to put something in Display Name

I agree that the email address should not be visible.
However, it seems that search should match the fragment that's displayed in the member directory, which *is* visible to anyone. In this case:

To be fair to Mark, I don't ever recall a bug taking more than a week or so to be squashed, even the more complicated ones. In some cases, if we had included more details, it would have been resolved

I did this with a certain group owner.
Only after I had pleaded with him to do so and only when he got wind his heart was giving out and he was dying. After he was gone, I set up a 3 person

The Owners' Manual states that the plan text option affects the footers as well so if it works as you describe (I have not tested it) then I would say that is an anomaly (or a bug if you prefer).
