I'm sure it's not possible, but a solution to the bottle neck could be to only install the transfer of all the members for every group in the queue, and then later add the archives, files, photos,

I agree completely with Scott. I would go even further and ask that the promised “notification of successful download” with details of WHAT was successfully downloaded go out immediately after

Have you checked the message in the online archive at groups.io to see if it is incomplete?
Most of the time the issue is at the final terminus as someone else said

Not all groups are localized to one zip code. Not all local groups want their location known.

The problem is that if a few topics generate lots of groups you have to wade through them while browsing. Excluding chosen topics from your browsing list would solve that
