Hi

Facebook just has 1 hour. No date or time. If you put time, I guess you need to put the initials of the time zone! Would you need to select this when you set up your group? Frances

I think there's value to that idea. It let's the reader quickly compare the time of the post rather than both being '3 hours ago'. Dano

Re: Group archive visibility (was Find Group listing)

I've started dating my Yahoo! Group's description any time I make a change
to it. That way anyone stumbling upon it in the directory is able to see that it was under active human control within the past few weeks. But that's more of a Yahoo! Groups problem than one I'd expect to find here.

Date/Time on messages
#suggestion
It's probably just me, but I'd prefer to see a Date/Time on messages, whether in the site Inbox or in a group's archives, instead of X minutes ago or Y days ago. Seems to make it easier for me to keep things straight.
How do others feel? Duane

Remove moderation from new users
#suggestion
I think the "approve message and remove moderation" button should also appear on the pending posts page. I don't have a pending message at the moment, so don't remember the exact wording. As it is now, I have to click on the message title before that option shows up. Thanks, Duane

Yet another bug
#bug
I created a test group named QuickTest. Then I went in and changed my role from Owner to Member and saved. Now there's no owner of the group. Nothing in it, so it should be deleted, otherwise it could become a spam haven. There needs to be some sort of check to make sure that there's always at least one owner. Duane

Re: Glitch in Members
I noticed that the sorting info says User, but it's really using and sorted by Full Name. So far, the only place that I see my User Name show up is on my profile page.

Another couple of bugs
#bug
I think I've found a couple more little gremlins. When I look at my profile, I see the public groups that I'm subscribed to. I also see a subgroup I created that's in a private group, with the letter M after it. None of the private groups themselves show up. The subgroup is public to the parent group.
If I click on any of the groups shown, it sends me to the site home page https://groups.io/ instead of the group. All the links start with https://groups.io/group/ instead of https://groups.io/org/groupsio/ Duane

Update on IO Progress
Hey all, Just want to update a few things I had started and haven't finished in regard to this site. First, I've finally read every message, but only replied to a few. Some others need a more detailed reply that requires my being able to think harder, so I am trying to respond to those tomorrow...(knock on wood). So I'm not ignoring anyone who posted in response to any of mine, I'm just not quite caught up. Second, I have not had a chance to invite a lot of people over here yet, but I am still working on that. I've started rebuilding my team, (still some to get over here yet), and they are helping me with research and explanation. That is important for us to be able to relay the right info to the people who want to know what is available in Groups.io. Last, I have not done a lot of publicizing of the site yet, for the same reason I have not been able to answer all replies. But I intend to spread the word about it, and still intend to talk to some of my media contacts and see if we can get Mark more publicity. I want to end this post by saying that I am no less dedicated to the Yahoo Crusade issue and Groups issues, and that the Crusade isn't just to get Yahoo to change, it's more about Fight, Fix or Flee. Fighting Yahoo has about lost. Fixing Groups, well, they don't seem to be listening to us anymore. That leaves "flee Yahoo" and this is looking like just the place to do that. If you want to know more about the crusade and it's three parts, check out our group: https://groups.io/org/groupsio/MMsanctuary/archives Or our Blog: https://modsandmembersblog.wordpress.com/ And if anyone wants my attention about anything and I don't appear to be actively posting, go here for my status: https://groups.io/org/groupsio/owlperch/archives Or you can post here or E-mail me directly with "Hey Owl, or Attention Owl" in the subject. I won't post this info in Beta again unless someone directly asks me. But I want you to know that my absence of posting in here does not mean I'm not still as dedicated as ever to find our groups a new home, because I am. Thanks, Brenda Nightowl >8# (Edited to include Blog Link).

I have another public one anyone can read or join: https://groups.io/org/groupsio/MMsanctuary/archives Abnd another public one anyone can read, but it's for the leaders & assistants of the Yahoo crusade and is invitation only, for the most part. https://groups.io/org/groupsio/owlperch/archives

Auto-Login On Invite
I have mixed feelings on this, so I thought I'd type it all out and see what happens. I noticed when someone invited me to a group, I got the email notice as expected. I was not already logged in to Groups.IO. When I clicked on the link to join the group, I was automatically logged in, so didn't have to type my password or anything. This is nice in one sense, as it makes it easy to join groups in response to invitations. One complaint over at Yahoo Groups is that some people can't figure out how to manage invitations, why is why they're always asking for the direct add feature back. I assume here at Groups.IO, that if an invited person didn't already have an account set up, that person would be guided through the process, upon clicking the link, right? And then there are the concerns. I usually don't like links that assume you're the recipient of the mail beyond any doubt, because emails get forwarded to other people, who then click on the links, and the site treats them as the original user. For the more paranoid among us, links in emails are also visible to the people who run the mail server, and mail is frequently transmitted without encryption to anyone who is watching. If I wanted to attack someone's Groups.IO account, and I had a way to see the email being sent to them, I could create a group, invite that person to it, then use that invite link to break into the account. Is that likely to happen in real life? Probably not. Which is why I have mixed feelings about it. I would have felt safer if I had been forced to log in with a password, though. JohnF

I see quotes around each statement.

"The first message of every thread is also emailed to you" should read "The first message of every new thread is also emailed to you"
and why can't I put a quotation mark on the same line here?

Judy,
I can't remember if this a turn on or off feature that the owner/modMember can edit their own, moderator can edit anyone's, just like delete. But no option to turn editing off. Mark said he is inclined to wait and see if a control is needed: https://groups.io/org/groupsio/beta/message/736 -- Shal

Thanks Shal, that is really a great feature. I think your suggestion to check the first and last would be a good idea. I checked the edited and couldn't get the comparison to come up.

I like it. Not sure if our groups would ever use it, but it's a great feature. I can't remember if this a turn on or off feature that the owner/mod can do. That might be helpful in our buying selling group. Judy F. SW Florida - USA

If you use the "View this message" link in the footer to go to the web, you can click the "Edited" button to see a list of the revisions. Check mark two versions then click the Compare Revisions button to see what changed. Mark, Since Compare Revisions is the only action available with the Revisions list, perhaps having the first and last revisions checked by default would be handy. -- Shal

Re: Edited Messages
I did change some numbers and added words/comments. The "more details" referred to the original email when I listed the problem and was in both versions. I may be way off base, but if it were me, I'd ignore/delete the earlier post completely and only use the edited one any time this happens. Only the edited version will appear online. By clicking on the "Edited" icon attached to the upper right of the message online, you will see comments about the edit left by the poster, if any. For small things (typos, misspellings, etc.) I wouldn't even bother editing. This was about a bug in the system, so I wanted to make sure the info I supplied was as accurate and complete as possible to, hopefully, make it a little easier for Mark to track down.
