Re: Delivery Options
Linda,
When I subscribed, despite my long history as a Yahoo group owner, I Can you detail for us what you did wrong? A little background on the confusion might go a long way to helping Mark make the options clearer. It would also help me understand if the separation of Email Delivery from Message Selection that dg and I proposed is (sufficiently) clearer. I can only imagine the nightmare that's in store if we can't have the Would it help if you were able to control the default Subscription options your members get when they join? cf my other suggestion "Membership Templates": https://groups.io/org/groupsio/beta/thread/membership_templates/24549 -- Shal

Right! I believe it's still a glitch since it happens often. Cacky Sent from my iPad

I have also been receiving duplicates, but intermittently. It's fairly frequent, but not consistent. Cacky Sent from my iPad

I think that is a good idea.

Yeah, I can understand that Judy. I've been doing something I haven't for a while; reading the posts on the web page. I have to say it's enjoyable when it all works without glitches! The result is I didn't read the email posts and missed that detail. Maybe edited posts need an [edited] at the end of the subject in emails? Just a thought. - Dano

Re: Anyone tried the email integration feature?
OK, now I see the point, Very cool. Seems like that address could be subbed to a meta-group as well, so that posts from a meta group go to the member group as well.

Re: Glitch?

Thanks Dano, but that doesn’t help the messages that come into an inbox, it just looks like it’s a duplicate message.

Yup, see the edited button when I look online.

Probably something that we will get used to! As you say, a good test. Frances

Plain text replies to RTF posts?
Mark - Is there a way for a reply to an RTF message to be changed to plain text? I believe that plain text messages are often easier to read for the recipient, especially those with vision limitations who set their screen text size larger, and so tend to send messages that way if possible. - Dano

Maybe I read it wrong, but I thought it was supposed to say somewhere that the message had been edited????
Judy F. SW Florida - USA
From: D R Stinson [mailto:dano@...]
Frances - That's because I edited the reply to add a word. I like how edited messages show up in message view, but for some, it might be confusing to get a second message only a minute later. Think of this as a test of the system. - Dano

Hi
I received two copies of this message. See below. One is time stamped at 3:03 and one at 3:02. The same thing happened with Duane’s message earlier today. Frances

Re: Delivery Options
I would caution owners about wanting to limit user features to only those they themselves would use. We never know what unique circumstances a group member may have, and what level of technical sophistication they are capable of. I too have a group with a number of older users, and I would never think to assume or limit what they are capable of understanding. I would agree the defaults should be pretty basic, but limiting the user's capabilities might lose you members to frustrations. As for understanding the different settings and what they mean, isn't that the purpose of the wiki? We've seen the value of such explanations with the wiki that was created for 'neo'. Dano

Group members don't need an account at Doodle to respond to a request that they indicate the best times for them to participate in an event. Only the person coordinating the "Doodle" needs the account Same for Freeconference, Googledocs, etc Steve ----- Sent from Steve's iPhone

First, I appreciate any suggestions made on the beta list. Please keep them coming. I totally get the keep it just a listserv. I think I've demonstrated, with the Integrations, that I don't want to rebuild the entire world. But I think there are some things that should be built in. Unfortunately, there is no generally accepted "groups api" that we could use to interface with other services that involve groups. It would be great if we could set something up with Doodle, so that any events scheduled there were automatically restricted to the people in your group here, and your members wouldn't have to create an account at Doodle. I hope at one point to create such an API so that we can interface with other services. My first priority is for Groups.io to be a kick-ass list server. Mark

Re: What Does Five Integrations Mean?
At least for the time being, we don't plan to use any of the integrations. However, Hangout always shows in the left bar. Should they only show up if they're enabled? Duane

This morning between 6am-7am pacific time, there was an issue with the web server. It's the same bug I've been trying to track down since Friday, some sort of database resource exhaustion thing. Sorry about that, and thanks for the kitten compliment. :) Mark
