Yeah, I can understand that Judy. I've been doing something I haven't for a while; reading the posts on the web page. I have to say it's enjoyable when it all works without glitches! The result is I didn't read the email posts and missed that detail. Maybe edited posts need an [edited] at the end of the subject in emails? Just a thought. - Dano

OK, now I see the point,  Very cool.  Seems like that address could be subbed to a meta-group as well, so that posts from a meta group go to the member group as well.

Thanks Dano, but that doesn’t help the messages that come into an inbox, it just looks like it’s a duplicate message.

Yup, see the edited button when I look online.

Probably something that we will get used to!

As you say, a good test.

locked Plain text replies to RTF posts?

Mark - Is there a way for a reply to an RTF message to be changed to plain text? I believe that plain text messages are often easier to read for the recipient, especially those with vision limitations who set their screen text size larger, and so tend to send messages that way if possible. - Dano

Maybe I read it wrong, but I thought it was supposed to say somewhere that the message had been edited????

Frances - That's because I edited the reply to add a word. I like how edited messages show up in message view, but for some, it might be confusing to get a second message only a minute later. Think of this as a test of the system. - Dano

I would caution owners about wanting to limit user features to only those they themselves would use. We never know what unique circumstances a group member may have, and what level of technical sophistication they are capable of. I too have a group with a number of older users, and I would never think to assume or limit what they are capable of understanding. I would agree the defaults should be pretty basic, but limiting the user's capabilities might lose you members to frustrations.

As for understanding the different settings and what they mean, isn't that the purpose of the wiki? We've seen the value of such explanations with the wiki that was created for 'neo'.

Group members don't need an account at Doodle to respond to a request that they indicate the best times for them to participate in an event.

Only the person coordinating the "Doodle" needs the account

Same for Freeconference, Googledocs, etc

First, I appreciate any suggestions made on the beta list. Please keep them coming.

I totally get the keep it just a listserv. I think I've demonstrated, with the Integrations, that I don't want to rebuild the entire world. But I think there are some things that should be built in.

Unfortunately, there is no generally accepted "groups api" that we could use to interface with other services that involve groups.  It would be great if we could set something up with Doodle, so that any events scheduled there were automatically restricted to the people in your group here, and your members wouldn't have to create an account at Doodle. I hope at one point to create such an API so that we can interface with other services.

My first priority is for Groups.io to be a kick-ass list server.

At least for the time being, we don't plan to use any of the integrations.  However, Hangout always shows in the left bar.  Should they only show up if they're enabled?

I was testing some things this morning and ran into an unusual situation.  I sent an email to the group owner email address from an unsubscribed email address.  I have that group set so that no emails are forwarded to my (owner) email.  There's a notice in the log that the email was sent, but I can't find any place to see what it is.  Have I overlooked something?

If the email address is unsubscribed, it's not saved anywhere. If the message is from a subscriber, you can look it up through their member page.

PS  While attempting to post this reply (a little before 9 am cst), I got several "504 Gateway Time-out" errors, then it finally gave me the "undergoing maintenance" screen with Linus.  Cute kitten!

This morning between 6am-7am pacific time, there was an issue with the web server. It's the same bug I've been trying to track down since Friday, some sort of database resource exhaustion thing. Sorry about that, and thanks for the kitten compliment. :)

The idea is that you can take that email address and use it outside of Groups.io to send messages to your group. Say a web service has a function to email notifications about something (concerts, for example). You'd like those notification emails to go to your group. Take the unique email address created in the email integration, and give it to the web service.

Would it be possible for group owners to be given checkboxes on all the various features, so that if one does not want a certain delivery option available to members, they can remove it to cut down on the possible confusion points?  Then everyone gets what they prefer in their own group.

Hi

For my own group, I would definitely like the “First Message Only” to remain as an option.

I can only imagine the nightmare that's in store if we can't have the option to go with a simplified plan.  Good old KISS is best for older folks.

In my groups, we use subjects, don't need hashtags, and the delete key is fine for unfollowing particular threads.

We need only a choice of three mail options:
     All messages as single emails
     Digest
     No Mail except Special Notices

Mark, I appreciate all the sophisticated programming you've worked on, but I beg  you to make it possible for group owners to opt-in to a simplified version of Groups.io.

Thanks,
Linda

One of the members on one of my groups had a problem this morning.  He has selected "No email", and I've verified the setting, but he's still getting all messages.  I would suspect that while Mark was making changes to the delivery options concerning Special Notices that a bug may have crept in.  BTW, I don't have this problem on my account.  I'll check with him again to see if it's still happening.
