Great feature, Mark, and one that our group had requested.  Thank you so much.

locked Re: Rejection emails not being sent?

Mark,

Much to my surprise (and oversight), we apparently have never sent
rejection notices when you reject a pending message via email. We do
now.
That reminds me that I've always thought the email reject function in Yahoo Groups was misnamed.

Although the notification contains an email address "To reject this message using email", it has never been a "Reject" function, it has always been a "Delete" function - precisely because it does not cause any notice to the message poster.

Since Neo they've changed the terminology, having in the web interface "Reject" (no notice) replacing classic "Delete", and "Reject with reply" replacing classic "Reject" - which opens a message composition window to form a reply to the message poster. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but that change makes the email use of the word "Reject" (no notice) correct now.

Both functions ("Reject" and "Delete") are available in the Groups.io web interface, perhaps both should be available by email as well.

While I'm looking at the Pending Message list, something else I notice is that none of the buttons below the list do anything unless one or more messages are checkmarked. But only the "Edit" button exhibits this fact by being disabled (gray) when no messages are checked.

The rest fail to function, mysteriously... Approve is the one that usually catches me, especially when there's only one message in the list. It refreshes the page and the message is still there - feels broken. Delete alerts you to what happened, if you're paying attention ("Are you sure you wish to delete these 0 messages without sending them to the group?" Yes! Wait, what?). Reject is even funnier, prompting you to compose a message to no one.

locked Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • NEW: Log special messages being sent.
  • BUGFIX: HTML editor buttons are now screen reader accessible.
  • CHANGE: Display owner when viewing photo.
  • BUGFIX: When there was an error adding a file or folder, it could create a bad record in the search database.
  • NEW: Option to add signature to emailed posts.
  • NEW: Added ability to select font family when composing messages.
  • NEW: In some instances I have not been able to duplicate, sometimes when replying to a message on the website, some Outlook HTML would be included in the message. This would cause line breaks in the messages to be 3 lines instead of 1 line. We now search for and defang that bogus HTML.
  • CHANGE: Rejecting pending messages via email now generates an email to the sender telling them the message has been rejected.
  • BUGFIX: Insert Quoted Reply would do nothing when quoting a message from a person that wasn't in the system (ie. imported message from someone who had left the group before the transfer)
  • BUGFIX: Trello integrations with subgroups wouldn't authenticate.
  • CHANGE: Try harder to maintain your place and search when switching between various message views. Can now sort by relevance on searches. Can page through individual messages in searches.

I was unable to complete the fix for searching the archives via author. That will happen next week.

I'm taking a long weekend. Responses to email may not happen until Monday. Of course I'll be on pager monitoring the system.

Have a good weekend everybody!

Mark

Yes, when you do the easy group transfer, in the email giving me the go ahead for the transfer, mention this.

There is still a remaining small glitch (or what I would consider a small glitch): The default order is fine (reverse chrono, newest first) when you go directly into the members list from the home page. However, if you then go into any of "bouncing," "moderators," "pending," or "banned," and then back to "members," it comes back up in chrono (oldest first) order, and you have to toggle on "joined" to get the reverse chrono order back.

Fixed.

I might be missing something, but after sending a message as a "special notice" this morning, I can't find any notation or indication in the log that it was sent that way. Could this information be added?

Added now for all future special messages.

locked Re: Testing HTML composition Still is not reading the unlabelled buttons, announced by just the word "button". It also announced "14" but this doesn't make sense at all. So will stick with plain text composition for now until this is fixed.

Hi Christopher,

Thanks for testing. I finally think I have it working now. Can you try it again? You may have to force reload (hold down the shift key while hitting the reload button).

Thanks,
Mark

Testing HTML composition to see if it works with OS X VoiceOver. Just done this now and it is not reading the unlabelled buttons, plus it is reading what sounds like the font name and size but because these aren't clear I am not sure.  At your end, you should hear either "button" or "14 button" as examples. Will stick with plain text composition until this is fixed. Safari is the browser being used here but I do have Chrome if anyone wants me to test it there.

Oversight. Now when you view an individual photo, it will display who uploaded it.

locked HMTL editor accessibility

Hi All,

I had received reports that the toolbar when composing an HTML post was not accessible for some screen readers; some screen readers would not say the names of the toolbar buttons. If this happened to you, can you test it again? I just made a change which I hope should fix it. Please let me know.

Thanks,

Uh oh. You know what they say, you break it, you buy it! :-)

It's fixed now. When creating new folders, we weren't catching a type of error, which led to a bogus entry in the search database. We're now catching that error and that bogus entry has been removed from the search database.

Thanks,
Mark
