Re: Sticky Posts
#suggestion
Good point. It might have to be just the original message when in message view. People would just have to follow the thread to see everything else ("view thread" shortcut button?) Or maybe allow stickiness to be by thread or by message. So if a mod posts a message and wants only that message to be sticky, they choose that option, but if a whole thread is relevant, they could stick the thread. Sticky messages for the message view, and sticky threads for the thread view? Then, in message view, maybe a flag for messages that are actually part of a sticky thread, but not specifically stick themselves. That might be too complicated though. The simplicity of the site is a big appeal. :)

Right now, the only thing I charge for is more storage space for files/attachments and the ability to directly add members. Mark

Re: A couple of questions
Hmm. I liked Shal's idea to keep things on the cookie, because I don't want to have a million different preferences for people to have to check and review. But I could do the same thing with the database; when you change sort direction or message view, it could save that in the database and remember it that way. On Sun, Jan 11, 2015 at 1:15 PM, Feathered Leader <featheredleader@...> wrote: This is on the single message view? There are no next/prev buttons there at the moment. Is that how you'd normally prefer to view group archives, single messages at a time?

A good idea I've noticed a few people doing is having a Mods subgroup for their group, so the moderators can discuss group operations. Mark

Thanks for the bug report. I've fixed it; clicking on a photo will take you to the message the photo appears in. Thanks, Mark

Re: Sticky Posts

Dalemonator, You can mark a thread as sticky or closed right now. When viewing a thread, at the top right, there is an 'Edit Thread' button. There you can mark the thread sticky or closed, and change the subject. You can't currently edit any hashtags, but that update is coming this week. (Nice use of the #suggestions hashtag, btw). I'm not sure how this would work in the message or expanded views however, since those are message based, not thread based. Should all the messages in a sticky thread appear at the top of the message view, for example? Thanks, Mark

I actually just fixed that. You were set to the "default policy". I switched you to "override-can post". :)

To Mark -- Regarding the Blog Post
Mark, I'm assuming you are familiar with the Yahoo Crusade Blog. :) I have created a graphic with the S.S. GROUPS.IO rescue boat speeding away from the sinking Yatanic...do you need to approve it before I post it? Also, I need to know if I can link back to your Blog as well as to this site. Thanks, Brenda

Quick questions: When I put a picture in the message body in an email, and send it in, it seems to attach and display with no problems. However, when I use the website, it appears to insert correctly, but it doesn't successfully attach when I hit send. Doesn't come through in my inbox, or show in the Archives. Am I missing something on this option, or is there a known bug here? Also, I noticed when a picture goes through it shows on the main page. When I hover over it, it shows as some kind of link. However, clicking on it doesn't seem to change anything. Wondering what it should do, or if it's still being worked on?

Right Shal, I have my browser set to delete cookies at the end of every Internet session, so cookies won't work for me. I prefer a default method.

Re: A couple of questions
Mark, Brenda,
Brenda, you can't currently set a default for message view or ordering. To me it seems more natural if my view choices (including ordering) are simply remembered as I navigate the site and from session to session. That avoids the extra (perceived) complexity of having to go find and change the selection in my Profile or Subscription pages (or wherever they would be). I think Yahoo Classic used to do this by setting one or more non-expiring cookies with the user's view choices. But in these cookie-phobic days that might be better stored as user data in the server. -- Shal

Sticky Posts
#suggestion
Some groups might like to be able to post certain messages or topics as "sticky" so that they always appear at the top of the list (group etiquette, hot new info, etc.). Since not everyone's need for this would be the same, perhaps when you make a post a sticky, you could specify if it appears at the top of the Thread, Message or Expanded views or all three. Mods and Owners would seem to make sense as the ones who could be assigned this power.

Groups.io
Mark - this is a mostly pointless message - other than
to see how posting from Thunderbird works for me. So far the messages from the beta group are coming in clean, in order, complete - in other words, exactly what Onelist and EGroups and the original version of Ygroups used to be - and the way, usually, the mail from the group on my own server (uses MailMan) are working (modulo any DMARC issues, where some folks don't get the mail from other folks). Or in other words - *KUDOS*! On lists that I create, I am rarely using the added features (calendars, databases, polls, files, etc.), other than we did like the pictures section when we were using Ygroups. Thank you, Brenda, for pointing us to this project. Diana

Re: Tracking features/bugs
Shal, On Sun, Jan 11, 2015 at 1:33 AM, Shal Farley <shal@...> wrote:
The answer to all your excellent questions is, "I don't know." I want to run Groups.io as transparently as possible, in terms of development. Part of that is this group, beta. Part of it is me posting what changes have been made to the site with the #updates tag. But there are a couple pieces missing, so I'm exploring options. For my own sanity I need something to track and prioritize features and bugs to work on. And that should be publicly viewable (and easy to understand for non-developers, which eliminates some bug trackers). I can see as beta gets bigger that a dedicated system for voting on features would be a good idea as well. I've never run a company like that before, so it's uncharted waters for me. So, ya, trying some things and seeing what works. It seems like Trello might work at this stage of things for some of this.
Right. It felt like a more dedicated solution was better in this case. So, anyways, suggestions and feedback are appreciated. Thanks, Mark
