Brenda, maybe they are typing it in or if they are sending the email from their email program and they have a signature line set up, I would think it would appear in the groups.io message also.

Duane,

If it's not on the TO DO list, how can some people have one? Some posters in here have a signature line. How are they doing that?

Mark -

Personally I prefer Digest 1, mostly for the flush left and because, even though the text is smaller, it seems easier to read. The wide blue band in Digest 1 seems to be a distraction. Will an HTML digest retain the individual fonts in the various messages or convert them to one preferred font?

I like 1 the best.   It’s easier to read the various section while 2 seems to blur together.  I know this isn’t very technical, but…….

locked Lost passwords, no passwords and reset password, oh my

Hi All,

I have a proposal about the no password/reset password/lost password system. Please let me know what you think:

- The login screen is as it is now, except replace the 'Forgot your password or don't have a password?' link with 'Email me a link to log in.'
- That link takes you to a page to enter your email address.
- You get emailed a link. The link doesn't contain your email address in it, just a bunch of numbers.
- Clicking the link logs you in and takes you to the Groups page (i.e. the home page).
- Clicking the link immediately disables the link for future use.
- If the link isn't clicked on in 15 minutes, it's automatically disabled (the email will tell you at what time it expires).
- You're logged in for the standard amount of time (30 days).
- Clicking on a disabled/expired link takes you to a page that tells you this and gives you the opportunity to have another email sent to you.

Once you're logged in, you can go into your profile and set/change your password if you choose. Or you can just use this system to always log in.

My hope is that this might reduce confusion. Of course it won't help the situation where someone isn't receiving emails from us at all.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark

In an export of my PTA group all of the members have User Status equal to either 1 or 4. But the column header says:

I'm guessing those marked 4 are actually "Bounced", and something new got put into the enumeration but not the header text.

Oops. Missed one. It should be 2=Inactive,3=Bouncing,4=Bounced. Inactive is a status that can only be set by me (and iirc I've never used it).

The fix to the header will go out in the morning.

Has she set a password? She can use the reset password or get a new one page.

I thought that was on the todo list at one time, but don't see it now. I'd like to have it be a per group setting.

locked member says not accepted

Ok so most people transferred ok.  One member has tried several times to log in.  It tells her she is not accepted in the group.  she is in the member list, using that email to try to login. I tried sending her an invite, but it says she is already a member.  So she IS accepted, but its telling her she is not.    ARGGG.

Ro,

I am not able to customize the name or invitee email sections.
Where are you talking about?

On the Invite page the "[Name]" in the invitation is automatically customized to each invitee, taken from the information you put in the Emails section.

The Emails section is for you to enter the list of invitees.

I always try to remember to put a spare email address of my own in the list, so I receive a copy exactly as the invitees receive it. Or you can do a "dry run" by putting only your spare email address in the list.

Mark Bielecki,

I guess I must have too many tabs opened because all I see on my tab is
a blue envelope, no group names
Heh, I thought I was bad. ;-) Try hovering over one then.

You also see the group name in the browser's address bar. But I'll agree that novice users won't reflexively look there, nor necessarily be able to "see" the group name there at a glance amid the rest of the URL.

Yahoo! Groups definitely currently outshines Groups.io in this respect;
I believe that every page on Yahoo! Groups has both the group's picture
banner and their group name in large type prominently displayed across
the top of the page, as IMHO it should be.
Yup. But you'll notice that people found that so intrusive that when you open a page the site automatically scrolls the page down to actual content. So you may see the cover image as a flash, but otherwise you have to scroll back up the page to see it.

On the other hand, Y!G use the left column for group navigation, with the group you're currently in highlit. That has the advantage that it doesn't scroll away as you move down the page. Groups.io's page design doesn't have any "docked" (non-scrolling) banners or side bars, but if it did that might be a good place for the group name.

Hello All;  Thanks for all the information I have cleaned while lurking the last couple of days.  We just moved our group over from Yahoo and our members are asking if there is a way to create an automatic signature line? I have searched for one, but not run across it. It's information like name, state, what machine they use, and for shop owners and distributors, their store information.  Some like to post their websites as well.  Thanks in advance.

locked Re: How to set where the reply goes to?

Duane

Those would only be for your email. They're predefined in the program and I don't believe there's a way to change them. When an email is From and To only one person, the buttons act the same. If it were sent with multiple To addresses, then Reply All would send your reply to all of them, as well as the From.

I think that would require html digests which are on Mark's list of things to do/add. https://trello.com/c/8sm7FsYj/119-html-digests

"I could see putting the group name in somewhat larger font than the rest of that line. Or maybe bold. I realize that it takes some time for a new user to "get their bearings", but that location for the group name is actually fairly prominent once you've seen it: it is in the upper left corner bordered by the dark logo bar across the top, and the list of page links down the left."

I'm clearly newer to Groups.io than you are, but my guess is that many if not most users, especially our group members, are not going to notice such a small group name in that location.  Usability may be fine for the expert user, not so good for the non-expert user, which a vast majority of Groups.io users will likely be described as even over a period of time.  I think a much more obvious size, color, and location of the group's name makes lots of sense;  the way it is now the group's name is so small, light colored, and poorly located that pretty much every Groups.io page looks like every other Groups.io page.  I like my users to know they're on my group's site when they're on my group's site.  Yahoo! Groups definitely currently outshines Groups.io in this respect;  I believe that every page on Yahoo! Groups has both the group's picture banner and their group name in large type prominently displayed across the top of the page, as IMHO it should be.
