locked Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site the last couple days:

  • NEW: Upgraded to latest Bootstrap, fixing a couple display bugs, and included the bootstrap theme, which darkens some of the colors.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed case where a collapsed quoted reply could be displayed twice in the archives.
  • NEW: For NuM members, display the number of approved posts remaining before they're converted to group default.
  • BUGFIX: Correctly resize profile photos so that the aspect ratio is kept unchanged (requires re-uploading of photos).
  • NEW: Activity logging for closing/reopening/sticking/unsticking threads.
  • BUGFIX: Check if a thread is closed before deciding if the message requires approval.
  • BUGFIX: Display 'Re:' in subject lines when viewing individual messages.
  • NEW: Send Message within the members list.
  • BUGFIX: Can delete a file or folder description.

Cheers, Mark

It's an autoresponder; no way to currently customize it. Here's what you get when you send a message to beta+help@groups.io:

Yep. No problem.

Shal meant that the date/time is stored INSIDE the photo file.  A .jpg file, for example, is not JUST picture data, but also has "header" information that can include a wide range of things, depending upon the 'application' (camera, scanner, converter, etc) that created it and what settings the user had... uh...set.  You're talking about the VISIBLE date/time on the picture itself, Shal's talking about "header" information inside the file that doesn't affect the picture itself.

Beta Integration <beta@...>

[Beta] Card "Like photos" was renamed to "Like and comment on photos".

[Beta] New comment on card "Like and comment on photos" by Mark Fletcher:

The members of my group would very much like the capability to add comments to other people's photos like we could in Yahoo.

I was thinking a -x after the NuM, but (x) as JohnF said also works.  Having it so only moderators see it would be my preference, if it's not a lot more work.

I've just added this. If you have member change privileges (i.e. if the member email addresses are clickable), you'll get the number of approved posts remaining before NuM members are changed to group default.

Thanks for letting me know.
I checked in my google account and under "Download your data" it is possible to download all the email tagged with just one label to a mbox. I'm trying that right now. If I can provide a mbox containing just the moderator list emails, could they be transferred into the subgroup?

Yes, we can load archives in mbox format.

I would really like to have my "Start Here" sticky message appear at the top, and am trying to edit it to make it the latest post. But editing it doesn't seem to count. Not quite sure I understand. You marked a thread as sticky. And it doesn't always show up at the top when viewing the archives in Message View or Expanded Message View. Is that the issue (it's true, sticky doesn't have an effect on those views)?

Say a sticky thread has more than one message. Do all of those messages get shown at the top of the Message/Expanded Message Views? Not sure there's a good answer there.

Hi Shal, like you said the date/time is usually stored on the photo with some cameras, unless it is turned off such as I do. I don't want the date/time appearing on my photos.

There's at least one other date/time of interest with photos: the date/time the photo was taken. Digital cameras (including phone cameras) usually store that information in the image file itself.

At Flickr, for example, it is often possible to sort photos by one's choice of date taken or date uploaded. I don't think they record the date/time of description edits, but I agree that sometimes that might be what you're looking for.

locked Photos Viewing/Downloading Question

weebeequilting <weebee.1@...>

I have been testing the viewing and downloading of photos.  I notice when I click on a photo there is a download button.  When I click on the download button no download happens but it gives me a zoomed in view of the photo and the cursor changes to a magnifying glass with a + sign.   This allows me to click on areas of the photo and zoom in on those areas.  The magnifying glass changes to a - and when clicked returns me to the original enlarged view.  To download, I have to right click on the photo and choose Save Image As.  That works.  To return to the original photo I have to use the back arrows.  Another thing I noticed, this zoom in feature does not work with any photos taken with an iPhone and perhaps other smart phones--I didn't test for others.  I love the zooming feature and I'm sure my members will as well.  We share a lot of photos of quilts we have quilted and we love seeing things up close and personal.  I don't know if this feature is meant to work in the way I described but in order to reduce confusion for my members, I have written a PDF with instructions and placed it in our files.  Perhaps the Download button needs to say Zoom In?  Is there any documentation regarding this feature?  Can we fix the no iPhones problem because many people use iPhones these days to take photos.  I didn't test to see if the download button actually starts a download for iPhone photos.  I'll test that next.

Hi Brenda,

Thanks for the thorough bug report. I was able to reproduce it and fix it. The problem was with the link in the footer, not with the website. So, the link should be correct in new messages.

Thanks,

Here is what transpired:
1. It It asked me for my user name and password
2. I typed them in the boxes provided
3. Then I clicked mute
4. No confirmation was given, instead it threw me back to the groups.io home page and I was not logged in.
5. I logged on and checked my muted hashtags, and none were listed.

What did I do wrong, or is this an issue?

locked Files and Photos - time stamps #suggestion

One of my members just uploaded a file, then edited the description, and noted that the time/date stamp for the file changed to reflect the date of the description edit, rather than showing the file upload time/date.  They requested, and I agree, that it would be nice to maintain the original date/time stamp of the file upload, and optionally be able to see the time stamp for the description edits separately.  I don't know what is your storage format for uploaded files and their associated descriptions, but is there any chance for this?  To me, the date of the original file upload is more important than the date of the description edit, although the latter could be of interest, it just seems like a lesser importance.

Hmmm this one returned me to the message view...maybe it was a bug that he fixed?

Interesting. It might depend on browser or OS. I have the latest version of Safari.

I just tested this. If I start in thread view and reply to the first message, I am brought me to Message View.

Message view makes sense because my most recent message / reply showed.

Mark,

Is it possible when posting a reply on the site, to be returned to the message you were replying to instead of another blank posting page?

I can get back where I was at by hitting the back arrow several times, but it would be really nice if I was returned to the post I was replying to, so that I can read the next one and continue to read and reply in order.

Also, if making a new post, instead of being returned to a blank posting page, could I be returned to the message list to view my post?

The blank post has caused me to double post before, thinking it didn't go through, plus it would just really be convenient to be returned back where I started so I can continue.

Thanks,

Brenda
