locked Muting hashtag from mail message did not work #bug

Nightowl >8#

Okay,

I received an invitation to Shalstest. I was able to join that group with no problems.

Then I received mail from Shalstest, including calendar reminders.

Since I have enough mail coming in already from groups.io, and elsewhere, I decided to attempt to mute them by using "Mute Threads Tagged With #cal-reminder" link in the e-mail.

I copied the link and went to the group, NOT SIGNED IN, to see what would happen.
Here is what transpired:
1. It It asked me for my user name and password
2. I typed them in the boxes provided
3. Then I clicked mute
4. No confirmation was given, instead it threw me back to the groups.io home page and I was not logged in.
5. I logged on and checked my muted hashtags, and none were listed.

What did I do wrong, or is this an issue?

Thanks,

Brenda

Edited

Mark,

Is it possible when posting a reply on the site, to be returned to the message you were replying to instead of another blank posting page?

I can get back where I was at by hitting the back arrow several times, but it would be really nice if I was returned to the post I was replying to, so that I can read the next one and continue to read and reply in order.

Also, if making a new post, instead of being returned to a blank posting page, could I be returned to the message list to view my post?

The blank post has caused me to double post before, thinking it didn't go through, plus it would just really be convenient to be returned back where I started so I can continue.

Thanks,

Brenda

UPDATE: This worked for me today when replying to someone on here, did you fix it?
And if it's possible, I would still like to be returned to the message list when posting a new thread.

Thanks,

Brenda

IIRC, this was discussed on beta@ about a year ago. Originally, it worked as you wish, but I think it was decided to switch to the way it works now. That doesn't mean we can't revisit it if people think it should work the other way.

I'm sure this has been mentioned somewhere before, but I've just joined groups.io so please forgive me.

I am considering moving a small group (currently 340-ish members, 19,000-odd posts over 18 years) from Yahoo. I know the posts and memberships can be transferred, but are there any tools/facilities/suggestions regarding the transfer of images. There are some files and databases that I will want to transfer too, but theses are relatively few, and I can handle those manually.

With the easy group transfer, we currently only support transferring posts. There is a (non-free) tool called PG Offline which purports to export photos and other aspects of your group, but it's Windows only so I have not been able to try it. See here: http://www.personalgroupware.com/. If you are able to export your photos, if you can get them to me in a format that I can use, I should be able to import them into your Groups.io group if you'd like.

locked Posting & being returned to Posting

Nightowl >8#

Mark - -

I've noticed now that I can post on the site all the time, that after I send a post, it returns us to another blank posting page instead of taking us back to either the message we replied to, or the message list in general.

Would it be possible to not be returned to another blank posting page, and be returned to either the message replied to, (so we can continue reading & replying where we left off), or to the message list if it's a new post?

The first time this happened to me, in my own group, I thought the post had failed, and wound up double posting, and had to delete the second one.

Thanks

Brenda

Mark,

I was thinking a -x after the NuM, but (x) as JohnF said also works. Having it so only moderators see it would be my preference, if it's not a lot more work.

(and shame on you for "working" on the weekend! ;>)

Not currently. I could add that. Where should it go?
I would suggest putting it in parentheses after the NuM indicator in the members list, like NuM(2) if the member has to post two more messages before becoming unmoderated.

That by itself would cause more people to post, "What does the number in parentheses mean?" So you should also update the tooltip when they hover over the indicator to explain.

Another option would be to show the remaining number when a moderator is approving a post, so that moderator would be aware that the user is going to become unmoderated after this post is approved. Though that makes me wonder, if a user has two posts to make before becoming unmoderated, then posts three messages before a moderator has a chance to act, does that third message go through unmoderated even though the first two are waiting, or does the status only change when the messages are let through by a moderator?

It does not.

Yes, as a normal post status changed activity.

3.  Is there a way for the owner/moderator to know how many posts remain for a member before the status change occurs?

Not currently. I could add that. Where should it go?

I do all my group "stuff" online. I've tried muting a few hashtags. On the All page, https://groups.io/threads, those threads show up in the list. I can delete a description by selecting it all, hitting a single space, then click Update. Not as intuitive as just selecting and deleting, but it works. This doesn't leave a blank line where the description would be. A quick "fix" until Mark has time to make an update.

locked can't delete "description" of a file or file folder #bug

Removing the description from a file or file folder doesn't work.

What does work:

1. Editing a description of a file or a file folder, as long as you don't completely delete it - this works fine.

2. Uploading a file, or creating a folder, with no description to begin with - this also works fine.

What doesn't work:

Removing an existing description from a file or folder.

(This is completely reproducible. But for reference, right now I would like to remove the word "test" from the file "What to Expect" in the group Feline_Smallcell_Lymphoma, and it won't go away.)

locked Re: Disable RSS Feeds for a Member suggestion

dg,

Okay - still not sure what the big deal of it is -
It isn't really a big deal. But if you're a member of a lot of low-activity groups, or like to read a lot of blogs, it can be handy to set up all their feeds in a reader or aggregator, and thereby get a single digest that contains any recent messages from all those different sources.

RSS wouldn't really be appropriate, in my opinion, for keeping up with a very busy email list. For that a conventional digest from that list is probably the better choice.

but it sounds like the answer for the OP is to tell the member to just
not enable it?
I'm not sure, but Mark may have addressed the actual question.

One of the available Integrations in a group is to post messages from an RSS feed (or maybe more than one). For example, if I had a blog where I post major articles, I could integrate its RSS feed to my group. This would cause a "blurb" (digest) of the article to be posted in the group whenever I make a new blog post. That might be appropriate if the blog and the group are on the same topic, and it might be a better way of having a user community comment on your blog than using the blog service's comment mechanism.

So if the OP's group has such an integration, then there may have been a member hoping to not receive the RSS "blurbs". Muting the #feed hashtag would be a solution for that.
