Muted hashtags question
I do all my group "stuff" online. I've tried muting a few hashtags. On the All page, https://groups.io/threads, those threads show up in the list. Is this the intended operation or should they be hidden there? I think the mute function is mainly intended to avoid sending emails, but it would be nice if it also hid them on the All page. I think I could go to the specific group and still view the threads, if needed.
Thanks, Duane

I can delete a description by selecting it all, hitting a single space, then click Update. Not as intuitive as just selecting and deleting, but it works. This doesn't leave a blank line where the description would be. A quick "fix" until Mark has time to make an update.

can't delete "description" of a file or file folder
#bug
Removing the description from a file or file folder doesn't work. What does work: 1. Editing a description of a file or a file folder, as long as you don't completely delete it - this works fine. 2. Uploading a file, or creating a folder, with no description to begin with - this also works fine. What doesn't work: Removing an existing description from a file or folder. (This is completely reproducible. But for reference, right now I would like to remove the word "test" from the file "What to Expect" in the group Feline_Smallcell_Lymphoma, and it won't go away.) J

Re: Disable RSS Feeds for a Member suggestion
dg,
Okay - still not sure what the big deal of it is -It isn't really a big deal. But if you're a member of a lot of low-activity groups, or like to read a lot of blogs, it can be handy to set up all their feeds in a reader or aggregator, and thereby get a single digest that contains any recent messages from all those different sources. RSS wouldn't really be appropriate, in my opinion, for keeping up with a very busy email list. For that a conventional digest from that list is probably the better choice. but it sounds like the answer for the OP is to tell the member to justI'm not sure, but Mark may have addressed the actual question. One of the available Integrations in a group is to post messages from an RSS feed (or maybe more than one). For example, if I had a blog where I post major articles, I could integrate its RSS feed to my group. This would cause a "blurb" (digest) of the article to be posted in the group whenever I make a new blog post. That might be appropriate if the blog and the group are on the same topic, and it might be a better way of having a user community comment on your blog than using the blog service's comment mechanism. So if the OP's group has such an integration, then there may have been a member hoping to not receive the RSS "blurbs". Muting the #feed hashtag would be a solution for that. -- Shal

Re: Disable RSS Feeds for a Member suggestion
dg,
I'm seriously old tech - and have never quite gotten what,Rich Site Summary (aka Really Simple Syndication) - it is a mechanism for new web page postings (primarily from blogs, but also messages from groups with public archives) to be delivered to you in a simple digest form. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS If I am getting an "RSS feed" from Beta - what is it andRSS is something you must set up in an RSS reader, or aggregator service, or other software. If you haven't done that, then you aren't getting one. For what it's worth, Yahoo Groups once supported RSS feeds for groups with public archives, but that seems to have been lost with the Neo redesign. http://web.archive.org/web/20130410111215/http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/GroupManagersForum/ There's a small orange RSS badge just above the message history table. If you have the Sage plug-in to Firefox (or another browser-based RSS reader) you can click that badge to see the digest of that group, at that time. -- Shal

Re: Disable RSS Feeds for a Member suggestion
I'm seriously old tech - and have never quite gotten what,
exactly, an "RSS feed" is. If I am a member of a group (beta), I have a choice of email, digest, special notices, nomail (I think - I get email, so that's the only one I know for sure.). If I am getting an "RSS feed" from Beta - what is it and where is it going? If it is simply a notification - FB and Twit allow me to turn notifications on or off per person (and "thread"). Plus my phone allows me to turn off notifications (and assume any android phone does - and i or w phones or tablets). If it is more than a notification - then I would hope it would follow the email choice options. IOW, I agree that if a member is wanting to go noRSS they could, just like noMail. dg

I'm not yet using this feature, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. A few questions:
1. Does editing a post also reset the number of approved posts counter? 2. Does the change of status get logged? 3. Is there a way for the owner/moderator to know how many posts remain for a member before the status change occurs? Thanks, Duane

Yep, I figured that out when it happened. So I think I'm going to wait before inviting people to come who haven't got that much tech savvy. Please remember to send me an invite from your test group, so I can see what it's like to join by invitation. Thanks! Brenda

Mark, On the custom welcome message in the group transfer, did you mean to say "to all new members" or "to all members"? If "all new members," by "new" do you mean any member who was not already in the io group at the time of the transfer? Thanks, and have a nice weekend! J
