I would rather this be a moderator's option. There are some posters we'd as soon think they're still moderated. They're much more thoughtful and careful about following group rules when they're moderated. Unmoderated, they seem to revert back to their own sloppy ways. There are a number of reasons why someone might want to change a moderator's abilities without coming out and saying something. Yeah, it's a little dysfunctional, but then, groups aren't democracies and sometimes quiet things work best for the owner.

Join flow without password

Relative versus absolute date/time
#suggestion
Mark,
Elsewhere Duane said: I use https://groups.io/ to see if there are any pending posts orSo, how about wherever a relative time is shown, provide a hover text with the absolute date/time (user's time zone, of course)? Bonus: a profile option to swap those (display absolute, tool-tip the relative time), or https://trello.com/c/sAS6woCj/4-date-format-in-profiles -- Shal p.s.: http://xkcd.com/1179/

Re: "P" next to member name
Hi Shal,
My attempt to join GMF cold, as someone not already having an io account, brought up this message: ********************************** "To join any groups you must log in below. If you haven't already registered with Groups.io you can register now by entering your email address below and choosing a new password that you will use to log in to Groups.io." Email address: Password: Passwords must be at least 6 characters long. ************************************ So I can understand the confusion if someone is trying to join a group, but doesn't understand that they can subscribe without a password, since it states when clicking the "join this group" button that they "must log in below" and lists Email address and password. ********************************** Can you explain this or can Mark? I thought there would be an option for e-mail subscribing only, but I don't see it if it's there. Brenda

Yeah, that's what I thought you meant. The feed URL is entirely public. If

members don't want to receive that RSS feed, they can tell their reader of choice not to follow that RSS feed. You don't need to be a member of the list to follow it, after all.

The default is for feed posts to be tagged with #feed. If that's the case for your groups, your subscriber could just mute that tag. Cheers, Mark

I'm not sure I follow. Do you mean not allowing a member to subscribe to the

Importing images from Yahoo
I'm sure this has been mentioned somewhere before, but I've just joined groups.io so please forgive me. I am considering moving a small group (currently 340-ish members, 19,000-odd posts over 18 years) from Yahoo. I know the posts and memberships can be transferred, but are there any tools/facilities/suggestions regarding the transfer of images. There are some files and databases that I will want to transfer too, but theses are relatively few, and I can handle those manually. I just pushed several improvements to photos. The current sort is now displayed. Also, after updating or deleting a photo, you're returned to the current page in the album. Finally, long photo names are chopped to preserve sizing of the photo box (if the names wrapped lines, that could screw up the photo placement algorithm, leading to lots of empty space). Thanks, Mark

I do think it would be useful to have that information included in the < #### box to the right of the message though once you start reading posts.<<
Thanks, I found it. I agree it would be nice to have in the location you suggested, but I understand if it can't be there. One dumb question...when in Message View, reading one post at a time, how do I easily revert back to Message View (with a column of truncated messages showing) ? I seem to get back and forth but I try several things and don't know what actually works. Thanks, Brenda
