locked Re: Invite flow proposal

Maybe you could call the second click "confirm your request to join this group" or "confirm you acceptance of this invitation" or "confirm that you want to join" or something. With Yahoo, it looks like they have to do the same thing twice, and sometimes they just don't do the second thing because they think they've already joined. Just putting the word "confirm" in there somehow would make it more intuitive to me.

Shal,

I like your proposal, but unfortunately there's a problem. As I learned when adding the one-click Leave link in message footers, some people run email clients that automatically click on (some? all?) links in an email. I've never been able to figure out which email clients do this or what the criteria is.

If the invite link in the message automatically subscribes you, then some people will end up subscribed without knowing it. That's why we have people click the Join This Group button when they get to the website from an invite, even though that's the equivalent of a second click...

Congratulations, you are now a member of the GROUPTITLE Groups.io group!
Here is some information that may be helpful.

o  All messages posted in this group will be sent to you at

 options, visit your Subscription page.
(the "all messages" would actually show the group's default delivery)

Um, oops. A flaw with that is that the person without a password can't visit the Subscription page. Unless a special exception is made for landing there from this page, which would probably not be a good idea even if it is feasible.

Probably better to make that a link to a help page that explains the options, including the email commands for delivery changes:

o  All messages posted in this group will be sent to you at user@.... To learn how to change your delivery and other subscription options, visit this help page.

Or, put the options on this page, under an expander.

o  All messages posted in this group will be sent to you at user@.... To change your delivery and other subscription options, click the bar below.
(this would be followed by a "Delivery Options" expander, similar to the "Advanced Preferences" expander on the Subscription page.)

locked How do you delete a hashtag?

I found a prior thread that said there was a "delete" button for a hashtag, but I can't find it. Thanks.

Duane, I think I'm getting your message mixed up with your meta-message, because the bug itself was about hashtags. So let me just ask: Are you saying that any post here with the "#bug" hashtag automatically (or by Mark) gets a Trello bug report created?

Great. I must have missed it.

I added that as a bug in Trello.

Sorry, I misremembered. I went back to the code, and here are the predefined hashtags:

#cal-notice
#cal-invite
#cal-reminder
#poll

If it was created automatically by adding it to the subject of a post, Mark added a bug report to his Trello page about that. It's not currently logged, so no search for them. If a moderator goes in and creates hashtags manually, you can search Moderator Activity to find them.

Duane
PS As you said earlier, it can be difficult to keep up with Mark sometimes!

locked Re: (?) "poststatus changed" not showing in moderator activity #bug

Mark,

It shows up as you say. The problem is that I didn't change the "Email Delivery" setting. I changed the "Posting Privileges" setting. I think that internally it is being set to the incorrect thing, since it appears as "changed delivery" and does not show up when you select "poststatus changed" in the Moderator Activity search. (While you're at it, I think it would be better to make those match. It's called "Posting Privileges" in the setting, but "poststatus" in the search criteria.)

Another bug I discovered while I was at it: When I change somebody from or to being a moderator, that activity shows up as two records in the log, with the exact same text both times: "oliviaj_catlady changed XYZ's moderator privileges via the web." I'm guessing this is due to the fact that changing someone from or to being a mod ALSO changes their privileges, by default. But perhaps changing someone from or to being a mod would be more accurately called "changed XYZ's role," since that's what the setting is called. It would also avoid what looks in the log as if TWO of the same actions happened.

I believe the only ones are #cal-reminder and #cal-event from the calendar, and they're created as used.

p.s. I came across this bug while trying to figure out who in my group created the hashtags "cal-reminder" and "cal-notice."

Those hashtags are used/created by the calendar when events and/or reminders are sent out.

DELETE THIS. It's not a bug. I screwed up the test. ;)

On another group of mine (Feline_SmallCell_Lymphoma), where adding hashtags is restricted to mods, I made a dummy member who is not a mod send a message with #test in the subject. The result is that the group now lists that hashtag.
