There is no voting by email right now. All ‘Vote’ links in emails take you back to the web site to do the actual voting.

Hi Alastair,

Off-list can you send me some more details: name of the group, which thread you’re trying to delete and what actions you took to delete it?

Thanks!

Good idea. Done.

I cannot delete a thread any more!   Even thought the thread in question is empty, trying to delete it gets me a 404, page not found, error!

I keep forgetting about that. I usually edit as Moderator and always select Save Without Sending in that case.

The only existing answer that should be changed when someone casts a second vote is the first vote cast by that voter.

If the pollster is adding a new answer or changing an existing answer, then all answers should be changed and the voters notified that their votes have been canceled out due to an editing change and they should cast a new vote.

Does that make sense?

1) The new choice/edit is added, but no existing votes change.

3) Polls can't be changed after there are any votes.

Right now, existing answers are not erased when a poll is edited. Should they be?

I found no 'Show Results' button on this poll.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox and Windows XP.

Edited

An email mentioned early in the message, like nobody@nowhere.com, is edited out when viewing the message, but on the messages list where the first line of each message is shown, the email is displayed in full, even to users who are not logged in. It is edited out in Thread View but not Message View.

I noticed because many replies start with the "On date, user <email> wrote:" types of quotes. These email addresses show up in the messages list.

How about giving the user editing the poll the choice to discard or keep all previous answers, and the user will decide which is most appropriate in their situation.

Right now, to close a poll (or to edit it), hit the Edit link when viewing a poll in the archives. It’ll bring back the Add Poll page with your existing poll, and a button at the bottom to Close It (or Reopen an already closed poll).

My real point of creating that poll, of course, is to see what it would be like. It looks like votes are cast the instant you check a box or select a radio button, because you can't show results if the option to hide them until the poll has closed has been selected.

Of course, one minor detail: It didn't ask me when the poll is considered closed, and I don't see a "Close Poll" option as the poll creator. Nor can I see the results so far myself, either, so I'm in the dark as much as everyone else.

I would suggest a "Cast Vote" or "Change Vote" button, because people aren't used to having checkboxes and radio buttons having immediate effect on the web. And of course, if I say not to display results until the poll closes, I should be able to say when the poll closes, too.

1 sounds like the most flexible.  It also means less work for members who have already voted.

The layout is a little confusing.  Is your vote recorded when you click a
radio button?  Or when you Show Results?  When you Show Results,
there's a link to Vote.

Your vote is recorded when you check the radio or checkbox button (which is used depends on whether your poll allows multiple responses). Show Results and Vote just toggle the display back and forth.

(I’ve fixed the poll display for long answers).
