I just discovered 33 GIO messages dating back a week in the spam folder of a test account set to receive individual messages.

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

November 19, 2021:

  • CHANGES: Formatting tweaks to the chat window.
  • INTERNAL: We now parse Content-Type headers that are (wrongly) RFC2047 encoded.
  • APP: Submitted a new version of the app to the app stores. It includes bug fixes for chat and some icon display issues, as well as integration of Code Push technology to make future updates easier to do.

November 18, 2021:

  • NEW: There is a new Group Sponsorship member notice. Discussion
  • NEW: We now send a acknowledgement email/payment receipt when someone donates money to a group donation. Discussion
  • NEW: We now send a acknowledgement email/payment receipt when someone sponsors a group. Discussion
  • BUGFIX: Searching phrases with quotation marks breaks the search pagination and sorting. Discussion

November 17, 2021:

  • CHANGE: Activating the tapback menu on a chat message now requires a long press. This allows links in chat messages to be clickable.

November 15, 2021:

  • BUGFIX: Scrolling up chat messages didn't properly load additional chat messages if there were more than 200 messages in the chat.
  • CHANGE: Changed format of chat message notifications to be more consistent with message notifications.

November 13, 2021:

  • INTERNAL: We now track whether a person has a chat in focus or not, so that we can better decide whether to send a notification on new chat messages.

The next #changelog will be published on Wednesday, November 24th.

Take care everyone.

I spoke too soon. They've started to go into spam again.

Yes it was. Seems to have stopped, at least for me, maybe since I immediately moved the whole bundle to my inbox once I noticed. And I only noticed because I had to search for messages that I could see were posted online, including a message to group owners.

My co-moderator points out that only some group messages end up in his Spam folder.  But it was a sudden change, enough for him to notice.

Gmail's spam filtering is supposed to be custom for each user, and is based on the emails you receive and what you do with them.  If you mark messages as Spam, or mark them as Not Spam (to take them out of the Spam folder), it "trains" your account's spam filter.

But then every so often, Google throws a wrench into the works, and you have to "re-train" it again.  Maybe that is what just happened, this week.

That seemed to be his usual behavior all along, storing messages for one to two weeks before re-sending them.

One of my two Gmail accounts was doing this a couple of days ago (both receive groups.io messages). I set up a filter to fix it.

I would be disappointed if Gmail factored those emails into their spam rating, given that they're bounced from us through a 3rd party to the receiver. But, I have no insight into Gmail's spam filtering process, so who knows.

I use web gmail for my email client and several email services (including the dread comcast.) The gmail client pushes some Groups.io emails into my spam folder every few weeks. I opt for digests rather than individual emails, which keeps the numbers low. I don't recall having all gio email stuffed in spam for any long interval, usually it's only 2 or 3 out of the half dozen or so digests I get a day. Sometimes no gio emails will be designated spam for weeks, then there is a clump. This week was clumpy.

Google must have an AI tool that changes continually and gio drifts in and out of its cross-hairs. Another reminder that we were evacuated from Camelot some time ago. But it's not the Slough of Despond either. Fake Amazon bills and love letters from foreign princes in need of gift cards for prosthetics hardly ever appear in my inbox any more.

Reminds me, I haven't yet checked my spam today. I need to start checking it every day. Never had to before....

Same here, I am fishing every day several io group messages out of the gmail Spam folder, I can‘t remember that it was ever like this before.  Busy adding message rules with Subject line and „never move to Spam“ in webmail.

It's not happening here.  My messages from groups.io groups are not going into the Spam folder.  I use Gmail too.

This may be related to Sarah’s issue of not receiving an email: today I noticed that I was missing bunches of important group emails from my group - a member’s response to a pending membership questionnaire (I sent her a resend), a reply to a group message by a new member whom I was surprised I hadn’t heard from yet (and was about to ask whether she’d received the messages), and more. Then I saw my junk folder and it was all in there and I moved everything to my inbox.

I mention this because in (5+?) years of running my group on groups.io, as crazy as it sounds, I don’t ever recall a message going into spam before. (I know it’s happened to some of my group members, because every so often they’re spam-removed.) And I mention it also because I wonder whether it’s now happening a lot to other people as well, including possibly Sarah.

I particularly have never had a response to a pending membership email go into spam.

Sarah,

I went through and traced the Saved/Sent edit you did yesterday, and it was indeed sent to everybody, including you. And I verified that we replace the Message-ID in the sent out email to ensure that tricky email programs don't treat it as a message already seen. So, you should have it. Please make sure it's not in your spam folder or that a filter rule moved it somewhere else.

Thanks,
Mark

When searching any group from the groups.io website, enclosing a phrase in quotation marks will only retrieve the first page of results.

As soon as you attempt to use the pagination or change the sort order (e.g., click "Date" or "Next") the search breaks and no results are returned, even if there are many pages of matches.

This has been fixed.

Did that edited message have a hashtag with the 'No email' attribute set?  If so, Groups.io would not email it.

I can't find a separate "most recent successful delivery" section of the Groups.
It's not a separate section for the group as a whole, it is your individual information and can be found via your subscription settings for that group:

You can also see a full list of bounces that may have occurred for your account and all the groups you are subscribed to via your Account details:

after posting here I wrote to GMF as I thought I might have posted to the wrong group!
GMF (and Group_Help) can be used for general queries and discussions that people have about the Groups.io system and is a good place to start. If there's a bug or a suggestion that may help improve Groups.io it can be posted here on Beta. There are separate subgroups on Beta for the Groups.io app, API and documentation.
