Thanks, Mark.  I guess my timing was perfect.  Perfectly wrong.  :-(

I could look at it that way if it were ONLY topics that have new replies, but everything on the page gets 'unvisited' when a new reply goes to any group/topic.  This is on the overview page, so there is no Messages view.  I seldom go to individual groups.

Duane,

I think it's because the link changes as additional replies are
received in topics.
Isn't that a feature? That is, if there are replies you haven't seen in that topic wouldn't you want to know that?

Maybe the Messages list would be more to your liking. Caveat: I don't read online so I don't actually know if those links have lost the "visited" feature in some other way.

I use Firefox too and noticed this. I also used it to keep track of what I'd read so far. I thought it may be something to do with a change in the Browser but if the links are changing then perhaps not.

I noticed this in only one group recently. The rest were fine. Could t figure it out.

yesterday: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/86000001?p=%2C%2C%2C50%2C0%2C0%2C0%3A%3Arecentpostdate%2C%2C%2C50%2C2%2C0%2C0%2Cprevid%3D1633132849584885609%2Cnextid%3D1632655263565684928&previd=1633132849584885609&nextid=1632655263565684928&allview=1

today: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/86000001?p=%2C%2C%2C50%2C0%2C0%2C0%3A%3Arecentpostdate%2C%2C%2C50%2C2%2C0%2C0%2Cprevid%3D1633161511845066009%2Cnextid%3D1632687150186165921&previd=1633161511845066009&nextid=1632687150186165921&allview=1

Since the site doesn't keep track of read messages (yet?), I was using it to keep track of where I was.  Now I need to try to remember what time I last checked.  I'm not sure why all the extra info is included now (possibly related to the app?), but if it can be safely removed, that should return things to the way they were.

Thanks,
Duane

When a photo has spaces in its filename, and that photo is downloaded from a group, groups.io converts the filename into+a+new+filename+with+plus+signs+instead+of+the+spaces.  I find it a little annoying.  And it is puzzling.

Can the download save it with its original filename, spaces and all?

If you try to create a new Member Notice of the same type and name of one that already exists, the system does nothing to allay or notify you of your stupidity. It simply lets you compose the notice and click on "Add Notice," does nothing, and then takes you back not to the Member Notices page but to your list of groups.

Sorry about that. What happened was that a large group was sent an email, which is not abnormal. But for some reason, this particular list has a significant percentage of members who run a firewall that automatically clicks all the links in the message. These firewalls receive the message at the same time and then hammer our servers, all at the same time. Somewhat similar to what's called a 'thundering herd' problem in computer science. This trips a failsafe I have and causes our servers to automatically reboot. You got caught in the 10 seconds or so when this happened. Addressing this has been on my TODO list, but I haven't gotten to it yet. Also, I just fixed the error message.

Thanks,

Hi Andy,

On Thu, Sep 30, 2021 at 1:13 PM Andy Wedge <andy_wedge@...> wrote:

I've been pushing use the of app to my group members and it has had a positive response. I've had comments saying that as they get the notifications they need and read messages via the app, how do they stop the email delivery? From their point of view, the email is redundant now. I did some testing and realised that notifications are only sent in cases where Groups.io emails you the text of a message at some point so that means if you have subscription settings of Individual Messages, either of the Digest formats or Special Notices.  If you have a Daily Summary, the text of messages is not included so no notifications are sent for messages that would be listed in the summary. I have the 'No email' option disabled in my group so I expect you don't get them then either.  As far as I can see, the simplest thing a member can do to still receive notifications via the app but reduce email traffic is to select one of the digest formats.

I've been thinking about this as well and want to fix it. But I haven't figured out how to tweak the subscription settings to allow for a setting where you get notifications for individual messages but no emails. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Thanks,
Mark

There's an official Groups.io App now available for Android and Apple, released recently by Mark. It's been in beta for a while.

See : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.groups.webapp or https://apps.apple.com/us/app/groups-io-app/id1553820507

The issue centres around how app (possibly also Web) users that don't wish to receive email can still get notifications for e.g. new topics/messages
