Description:

Due to a bug in the code that processes incoming emails, no inbound email was processed during this time. No email was lost, just delayed.

It just came in, one minute ago. :-) It was the only one missing.

Actually, at least one message was lost. It was one that would have required approval, and the pending notice never came through email, nor did the message show up in pending, nor does the sending of it appear in the group activity log. In this message's case, it was no great loss. But just letting you know, in case it matters.

That's easy! Because you didn't give me your pager. :p
Hope you had a nice dinner!

At 6pm Pacific Time, I pushed a change to our email pipeline. And then I went out to a lovely dinner with my wife. What I didn't know is that the change was causing repeated crashes, delaying all incoming email. I was not notified of this, unfortunately. I've fixed the crash and email is flowing again. I still need to figure out why I wasn't paged.

No email was lost. Just delayed.

Sorry, and thanks.

locked Draft not saved or updated while being edited for a long time #bug

Andy

I just lost a lot of work.  I was writing a medium-long reply (in my group) in the web interface, spread out over some time.  Writing took a long time and then I waited a while before sending it.  In the meantime it was still open in the window where I was editing it.  Later, I closed that window without either Sending or Discarding it because it wasn't quite ready yet.  (I saw that the full message was still there in the edit window.)

Minutes later I went back to finish and send it.  But 98% of the message is GONE!  It is reduced to the greeting and the start of my second paragraph.  The missing first paragraph (1 line) suggests that it saved my draft waaay back in the first minute I was writing it, and then ignored it and made no more saves after that point.  I believe it was around two hours when the message edit window was open, and no Saves were made in all that time.

I have gone back and re-opened the Draft several times, even logged back in, but it always looks the same.  I was on the Internet all this time.

What happened?  Do Drafts revert to earlier saves and discard later ones?  Does something go wrong if you take too long, or stop typing for a while?

Can we add a button to Save the current state of the message?  It appears we can't count on Groups.io to decide when to save it.

I agree that flip-flopping is not a great idea. But in the case, adding “reply” after “private” would not seem to do much harm. (OTOH, not sure it does much good, either.)

And some groups will only send mail in plain format/no html and in this
case you don't have options for send to group/sender.

Maybe the "Private" button wording should be changed to "Private Reply to Sender", assuming there's enough space on the user's screen for these long button names.

moderated Make Direct Add have identical effect as Rejoined Spam #suggestion

In our group, when someone is removed for marking a message as spam, and that member is a very known and active group member, I don't wait for them to send the resub link. I just Direct Add them back into the group, and notify them that this has occurred. The problem is that much of their membership info goes down the drain when that happens, unlike when they resub from spam, in which case everything is restored. In the one example a couple of days ago, I had to resurrect the member's complete auto-sig (our auto-sigs carry the cats' medical histories), and her "date joined" became the date she was Direct Added (this was a charter member of my original group, who actually joined about 7 years ago, and it always comes as a shock to see her at the top of the Members List as if she just joined yesterday). I don't know what else is not restored. Her activity history seems intact.

Could Direct Add be made to have the same effect as a resub from spam situation, when the member was already a group member?

They did at one time, but many people were getting confused, so it was changed to the way it is now.  Actually, you can change the settings for the group Message Policies to have all replies sent to both.

There's already a "private" button at the bottom right. So are you suggesting that it be replaced with "reply to sender"? Is it just the wording that's confusing your group members?

Yep, it's an excellent suggestion.

I've been getting requests from our user group to allow easier ways for them to reply to individuals.  The current default settings allows both reply to group and reply to sender but not both  Is it possible for both buttons to show at the bottom of the postings?
