Agreed, it's not working quite right.  Even if I personally don't see why someone who is FO wouldn't want to AFR their own replies, I agree that the way it behaves now, it's like "I'm always on as if the checkbox is disabled".

I think this is a case of the AdvPrefs UI-display/defaults init code doing its thing regardless without checking what AFR was previously set-to or changed-to.  Or it could be the uncheck is actually saved on the db but then the reopen resets it anyway overwriting it, maybe in the validation code part.

Anyone can attempt to send a message to a topic that was locked days or months or years ago. If the active member notice has changed in the interim, it most likely bears no relationship at all as to why these older topics were locked (if it still did, why would you change it?).

So I suggest no....unless you can somehow "save" the associated member notice with the topic.

- Should the Active locked topic member notice be sent when a topic is automatically locked based on the group's `Automatically lock topics older than N days` setting?
Unless you want to create a second "type" of Member Notice for this purpose, I suggest no.

I expire topics after 60 days for no other reason than I don't want people replying to something many years old after having accidentally inverted the sort order of the archive.

- Should the Active locked topic member notice be sent when a topic is automatically locked based on a hashtag's locking a topic after a specific duration?
Again, I suggest that topics locked based on a "timeout" of any kind calls for a separate member notice...if you want to go there at all.

- Should the Active locked topic member notice be sent when a topic is started with a hashtag that has the `Locked` checkbox checked? Or possibly a selector to pick which locked topic notice to send?
I don't see the advantage of this. If you want to explain why the topic is locked with the first message, just say why in the message.

Generally, I'd prefer that we stop while we're still on relatively solid ground.

I have made no change to any group settings. Is this a deliberate change of system behavior? Or a bug?

On May 27th, I changed how some system notices, including #cal-notice messages were generated. Previously, they had ignored the group's Normalize HTML Emails setting, but after the change, they were no longer ignoring that setting. Your group has that checked, so you started seeing the result of that.

I've restored the previous behavior, and all new #cal-notice messages sent to your group should have the formatting.

When I create an RSVP event, the person's email address that goes into the 'Organiser email' field (the event organiser) is unable to contact the responders as it says in the manual as the Actions button is not displayed.

The manual is incorrect in this case. The organizer email field is just a simple text field. We don't do anything with it, including linking it with a member or validating that the text entered even looks like an email address.

Do you mean in addition to the usual rejection message or in place of?

We use the 'locked' setting on the #poll-notice hashtag to 'encourage' people to use the web UI and vote online. A locked topic notice for a poll would therefore need to be worded different to effectively say 'go online to respond' whereas a normal locked topic response would be 'you can no longer respond'.  How do we differentiate?  If a poll topic is locked and the poll is closed, what happens then?

Yes to the first.

I don't use the functionality of the other three, so I will defer to those who do.

I would say not superfluous, but definitely needing clarification. As written, it sounds to me like it's uncheckable. And I agree with you that in that case, the box should not even be there (as I suggested after this was originally implemented) and in its place there could be a short informative blurb.

My understanding, after the long and drawn-out conversation about this awhile back, is that Auto-Follow Replies is now automatic when Following Only is checked. I always wondered why it was even left as a check box (but always checked), and thought that the box was strictly informative - i.e., that Following Only now automatically implies Auto-Follow Replies and that AFR can't be unchecked.

So it's unclear whether the bug consists of allowing the box to even be unchecked, or on the other hand, not clearing the option when the box is unchecked.

Hi Mark,

in Advanced Preferences, when Following Only is selected, it's not possible to uncheck and save Auto Follow Replies. If you expand the Advanced Preferences again after saving, Auto Follow Replies is still checked.

I've just been testing the Chat feature in the app and you can create the initial message to start a chat but after that there's no way to enter additional comments. There's no option to resize the display to reveal any hidden fields and switching from portrait to landscape does not help either.

Glenn, it's one of those undocumented features, I didn't know it existed either until only a few months ago.  There's only a single (somewhat cryptic) line about it, in the Owner's manual, and in the Enterprize group admin section no less which most folks don't read:

Disable +1 Functionality
Select this checkbox to disable the automatic conversion of +1 email messages to likes.

I'll suggest in docs to add something about it in the User manual.

Cheers,

I agree with that. And it depends on what you mean by "needed" as applied to log entries. I feel it's appropriate to create a log entry for any significant action, even if you're not sure whether or not the logging changes anyone else's behavior. Sometimes you just want to know what's been happening in the group.

I had a chance to use this just now.  I feel it's a matter of placement of the claim function in the processing.  If I'm reading a message to make a decision, there's no need for a 'claim' if approved, only if I select the Reject button.  It's useful there because it can take a minute or two to create the reason for rejection, especially if there's not a canned notice, and another mod could happen to access the message during that time.  I don't see that it creates a problem as is, just an extra entry in the log that's not needed.
