moderated Apostrophes in event names being translated on calendar messages and moderator notifications #bug #fixed

Hi Mark,

Apostrophes in event names are being converted to ' on calendar messages (cal-invite & cal-reminder etc,) and Mod notifications such as database updates.

moderated Record file downloads in the Activity Log #suggestion

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

File and folder uploads are recorded in the Activity Log so is there any chance we can record file downloads too? Keeping a count of them would also be nice (as suggested in #19632).

Regards
Andy

Coming from 10 years+ at yahoo groups, I really don’t like the new sort order. I would much prefer to see all the folders first and then files like it used to be.

In other words, the links still show blue after I have read through several. The problem appears to be that "Next" arrow points to a "sparse" link rather than the full link as seen in the Messages list view.

eg) List view shows: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/29318?p=,,,50,0,0,0::created,0,,1,2,0,29318

This has been working for several years [ reference: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/943197#7386 ] and now appears to be broken.

This was also reported on a help group, https://groups.io/g/Group_Help/message/2579.  It seems to be using the next/previous arrows that creates the problem.  This may be related to https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/82515813

... and some time in the last few hours, all of the read messages that I manually went back and forth between the message single view and the overview list view to make sure that they were shown in the browser as "read" went back to blue!

Same scenario as when the problem started about 2 weeks ago. Except this time, that was the fix!

Now both the summary list view and the <> single message view lists use the same sparse link and all is well in Mudville once again.

Thanks!

Same as Andy - doesn't render in email client, web or app.

The PDF icon thing may just be down to how the files are indexed. Simplistically you can use file extensions, but that's not reliable; just because it has .pdf or .docx doesn't mean it really is a PDF or word doc. Or you can use format signatures (magic bytes), where a file type will/should have known headers or byte patterns.

In the case of PDF files, the spec calls for the files to start with %PDF. However, many don't and most readers will happily open and parse files without it. If whatever tooling Mark is using to create the directory indexes relies on finding %PDF then you can see how the situation you describe might arise.

I have some PDFs that came over in our migration from Yahoo back in Oct 2019.  The PDFs are fine, but show up as type File.  Probably something in the import process didn’t recognize them as PDF.   In another folder where this occurred, I re-uploaded them and they were identified properly as PDF.  I just haven’t done that with these files.

I agree that this change to the link from the messages page has made reading groups on the web more difficult for me, especially if there have been more than 25 messages posted since I last read, as the link seems to change when it's moved to another page. I'd like it if either the link from the messages page were reverted back to the simple URL, or if the Previous/Next buttons could use the new URL, so the browser would know to mark the messages as visited.

Thanks,
JohnF

Derek

can you see the screenshot online?
the ICON and TYPE are inconsistent when it comes to a pdf file.  Sometimes they’re both true to the subject file being a *.pdf and sometimes not.

pdf icon - PDF type
plain old icon - FILE type
(both examples I show in the screenshot are pdf files)

Here is a mockup that groups the fields together into sections. Within each section, we 'OR' the fields. Between sections, we 'AND' them. Does this make sense? It's designed around how the underlying database is structured.
That's much clearer - thanks.

Mark -- Yes, it does make sense, and the horizontal rules in the mock-up represent a substantial improvement.

How does this interact (if it does at all) with the choices that subsequently appear in the Actions menu for the filtered list? That was the basis for my original #suggestion.

Thanks,
Bruce

Yes, that's the way it used to be in the default display instead of interspersed as they are now.

KWK - your image doesn't render for me, but I did have a look through the page code and I can see that Mark's using Font Awesome to provide the icons (see https://fontawesome.cc/Files/). As far as I can see from a brief look it's consistent across the site; for instance a folder icon is created by:

<i class="far fa-folder fa-lg"></i>

in both the listing and search results. The apparent switch to the white on black rather than black on white (now styled back to blue) would have been down to using the fas rather than far class by intent or typo, I think the code was actually generated as this in fact:

<i class="fa fa-folder fa-lg"></i>

Just my 2 Ningis worth...

Hi All,

The icons in the Files section have been updated. Also, the sort-by-Type issues should be fixed now. Please let me know if you see any issues.

Thanks,
