Haha! That's a good one. ;)

The moderator in charge could do nothing about the nessage because, apparently, it had been claimed by me.
Well, that's different from claimed pending members. The claiming doesn't prevent any other mod from acting on the member. It's just informative. So either claimed messages are different, or the other mod misunderstood. I don't know.

In any case, I don't see how logging the claiming does anything to solve this problem, although, as I said, I think it might be useful for other reasons.

How could you inadvertently claim a pending message?
I didn't go into detail because I know that Beta is not for lenghty discussions.
Some days ago, I checked (opened) a pending message via web. I though about correcting it, then I changed my mind because it was not my turn to moderate the group and I left it there.
The moderator in charge could do nothing about the nessage because, apparently, it had been claimed by me.
I didn't remember claiming it, so I checked my activity and the group activity, but I found out that claiming is not logged.

Malcom's explanation about the [Edit] + [Cancel] thing has shed some light on the problem, though.

Hi Mark,

I've raised issues previously about browser notifications and I've been testing with different browsers on my laptop and mobile.  I turned on notifications for the default Samsung Internet browser on my phone but when I went to turn them off I noticed the Enable and Disable options are both visible at the same time which doesn't make sense. The default Samsung Internet browser is listed as Android Chrome:

I haven't tried disabling it yet in order to leave evidence for any investigation.

But even to do that, you would be in the pending message list and the message would be marked as already claimed. Right?

In any case, maybe claiming a message should be changed to the same mechanism as for claiming a pending member, namely, you affirmatively click the claim button.

Easily, by accidentally clicking on [Edit]. The way out of the edit is, of course, to click [Cancel] but that leaves the message in a claimed state.

I have already requested a specific [Claim] button in another post ... please?

If [Edit]; [Cancel] continues to claim a pending message, can we also have an [Unclaim] button please?

Malcolm.

There are a couple of display/visual inconsistencies in the Admin menu for Pending Messages and Subgroups.  Clicking on Pending Messages displays the wrong icon in the breadcrumb row (in keeping with the rest of the Admin icon motif) and clicking on Subgroups displays the wrong icon and text ("Members") instead, see attached.

These should be fixed.

Thanks,

How could you inadvertently claim a pending message? Can’t you only claim via the website, where the message would be marked as claimed? Just curious. I like the proposed additional feature too, same as i like my originally proposed feature (logging claiming of pending members), but not for that reason.

Further suggestions relating to the breadcrumb in the calendar:

  • If you navigate away from the current month and display some event details, the Calendar link in the breadcrumb contains a calstart parameter so clicking it will take you back to display the month that the event is in. Can we include the calstart parameter in the breadcrumb link when editing an event?
  • When viewing responses for an RSVP event, the calendar and event title are removed from the breadcrumb leaving just a link back to the homepage of the group plus the calendar icon & 'Event Responses' text. When viewing responses, can we linkify the event name and add the icon & 'Event Responses' text as the last element of the breadcrumb?
I've made these fixes.

That's a great idea as it can also help provide the group moderator pool's trends & metrics to the owner.

I guess we should also add the logging of claiming a pending message to the request.

Cheers,

On the list of databases we have 24 and they are all visible on the page when you click on Databases.

When I open one of those Databases with more than 20 lines I can only access the first 20.  I dont get the option to go to the next page.  The only way I can view the whole database is to click on Add Row then on Cancel and only after that do all of the entries appear on my screen.

This should be fixed now.

This has only happened in the past few days.  Prior to this I was able to access all information on both the main Databases page and the individual databases.  I have checked with my group members and they are not having the same problem.  Very strange!!!

Can you shed any light on this for me?

Hi All,

I've spent some more time working on the breadcrumb navigation and fixing some other app-related issues.

Some additional suggestions:
  • From the messages screen, selecting Polls from the Messages/Topics/Expanded/Polls buttons shows the Polls icon in the breadcrumb. Selecting a poll from the list causes the breadcrumb link to change to Messages meaning you cannot use the breadcrumb to get back to the list of Polls.
I'm not sure what the right answer is. There are two ways to view a poll, either via the Polls page or via the Messages/Topics nav path. What I've read about breadcrumbs and UI says that when you have multiple paths, only display one (the canonical one) in the breadcrumb.

  • On the Calendar, when displaying event details, the breadcrumb could be expanded to include the event name and include a clickable link to return to the previous calendar view.
Done.
  • From the directory, when selecting a member's entry, the breadcrumb could be expanded to include the member name and a clickable link to return to the Directory.

Done as well.

Also, the issues with the group member page and the header/footer scrolling in the app should be fixed now.

Thanks,
Mark

Not necessarily.  I'm on 3 other sites that use the icon to open a search box, so GIO isn't the only one doing it.

>>> On mobile, you now have to tap the search icon (the little magnifying glass).<<<

While no deal breaker a better representation might be a link button, not the spy glass icon. That icon is **always** found at the right end of a search box, and not to home-into in order to jump to a search page.  Yesterday I tried tapping several times to the left trying to land in some imaginary box to enter a search string.  I even put a new battery in my finger, thinking that might be the issue.
I understand the love of reducing everything possible to icons, but then so could the others be that are on the page.  Why not?  Maybe to avoid confusion - which is what this generated.  I don’t believe I’m inherently dumber than most users (no poll necessary, as I did figure it out) but why impose “ahh ha” moments on old-dogs who may not he icon savvy.)
I don’t pretend to understand what’s inherently wrong with “words” and why it’s location needs to be there, but graying into the line to the left is confusing.  It might be less so as  a stand-apart icon box to differentiate that to the left is not a search box.

As a suggestion, possibly a heads up why different changes are necessary would connect up the logic to those who don’t understand the *whys* and *wherefores*?

It would be helpful if the claiming of a pending member by a mod were logged, making this information more easily available to other mods.
