moderated Low quality images #misc

I have reported this as a bug at the KDE bugzilla site (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=435776). But since it only happens with messages originating from groups.io, I'm bringing it up here.

I use POP3 and KMail2 to process almost all of my email. I have a problem with image quality on messages that originate at the groups.io web site. Here is an example screenshot.

As you can see, the image is all washed out, and the photographed text is hard to read. But it's a rendering problem, and not an image quality problem per se. Here's a screenshot of the same image file, also rendered by KMail. (I selected just the image attachment for display by KMail to make this screenshot.)

Clearly the bug is somewhere in KMail. But it's only triggered by messages that came from grroups.io, so far as I can tell. Is there anything peculiar about the headers that groups.io inserts in outgoing messages that could possibly account for this? Something else about groups.io messages that might affect image quality? Weird metadata in the image file, or something like that?

Any suggestions will be appreciated, and gratefully accepted.

Understood that this is a browser action. What I see in both Chrome and MS Edge is that now they are not seeing the full and sparse links as the same page. This was working up until yesterday and is now no longer working for me.

I assume that others are seeing this as well.

On mobile, you now have to tap the search icon (the little magnifying glass).

The search bar has moved to the top right corner of the Groups.io window, just below your name.

The breadcrumb is a series of links across the top of the page which show the route taken to get to your current display and provide quick navigation links to go back to a previous point:

See also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breadcrumb_navigation

As has been pointed out by J (in #29304), after an initial search, the search box actually moves back to its original location which seems weird as it introduces a lack of consistency.

Did this change also affect the messages links? When I read messages starting at the Messages  List heading, the links are no longer being marked as being read as I read through one post after another.

In other words, the links still show blue after I have read through several. The problem appears to be that "Next" arrow points to a "sparse" link rather than the full link as seen in the Messages list view.
eg) List view shows: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/29318?p=,,,50,0,0,0::created,0,,1,2,0,29318

That looks and feels much better - thanks.

Some additional suggestions:

  • From the messages screen, selecting Polls from the Messages/Topics/Expanded/Polls buttons shows the Polls icon in the breadcrumb. Selecting a poll from the list causes the breadcrumb link to change to Messages meaning you cannot use the breadcrumb to get back to the list of Polls.
  • On the Calendar, when displaying event details, the breadcrumb could be expanded to include the event name and include a clickable link to return to the previous calendar view.
  • From the directory, when selecting a member's entry, the breadcrumb could be expanded to include the member name and a clickable link to return to the Directory.

Correction, it was not quite my complaint - my complaint (or observation - it doesn't really bother me significantly) os that after doing a search, the results display reverts to the old search box form.

I think the use of breadcrumbs overall is inconsistent, especially in the display of messages and topics.  If you select Messages from the left-side menu the breadcrumb display either Messages or Topics (plural) but if you open a message or topic they switch to the singular form (and the icon for Topic actually changes to that used for a message).  It would be helpful to add the subject of the message/topic to the breadcrumb and make the plural form an active link to get back to the previous display.  An example of how this ideally should/could work can be seen by going to the member list and then displaying an individual membership record.

The content-filtering capability has been suggested before and besides the individual subscription benefit, it would also be beneficial for admin stuff as well, such as catching/notified of certain postings in unmoderated groups and prevent them from posting to the message archive and the like, and it could also add an additional tool in message/individual moderation. I'm sure there are other uses as well.

In the subscription screen, the Follow functionality could be a good place to add this, something similar to the attached.

Christos

Looking down the rest of the left-side menu there are actually no icons in the breadcrumb for New Topic and New Poll. The icons for Directory are also mismatched between the left-side menu and breadcrumb.

moderated A couple of display inconsistencies in ADMIN options #bug

Hi Mark,

There are a couple of display/visual inconsistencies in the Admin menu for Pending Messages and Subgroups.  Clicking on Pending Messages displays the wrong icon in the breadcrumb row (in keeping with the rest of the Admin icon motif) and clicking on Subgroups displays the wrong icon and text ("Members") instead, see attached.

Cheers,
Christos

When accessing various albums in Photos, you can no longer click on Photos or Album Name at the top to select another album, they are not active.

If you need more information I will be glad to provide it.

This was such a time saver.  Hopefully this is an easy fix.

Thank you,

Sorry Andy and Mark -- I took advantage of other members asking for 'treats'

FYI Andy - I have a Premium Group and there is no option to 'Move' photos in the Emailed Photos Album.  That option is, however, available in all other albums.

Sincere apologies if I have overstepped the mark here.
