I think this can be best dealt with in the group description, monthly notice, and/or welcome notice.

One small note.
Should the "Apply" row have some sort of indicator (color-blue/red) that gives you a general idea that you need to click on it to activate the filter?

Maybe it's just me but I kept clicking in and out but didn't understand the GUI immediately.

Thanks,

Given that different members can be restricted from posting to different degrees on a non-Annoucement group, calling it an Announcement group doesn't mean every member can post.

Go to the Members page. Bring up the Filter, check something, then hit Apply. You'll then see the filtered Members list. Then, bring up the Filter again, check something else, close the dialog without hitting Apply. Then bring up the Filter again; your last change shouldn't be there, because you didn't hit Apply.

Hope this helps.

If you check some filter boxes, then click Cancel instead of Apply, those clicked buttons are removed. I'm not wed to keeping that button or the functionality.

I had a better idea. I've removed the Cancel button. If you close the Filter dropdown, all the checkboxes reset to what they were when you opened the page. So they should always be correct when you open the filter.

As does clicking the Members button in the navigation pane on the left.
Have I missed a subtle difference between the two?

In other words, I think I agree with Chris' original assessment that the
Members button above the list is now redundant. Directory, Photos,
Files, and Wiki do not have such a button above their lists.

But wouldn't it be strange if the Members button was missing? Say you go to the Members page, then click one of the other buttons at the top, lie File Sync/Service Sync/Bulk Remove/Download. You'd go to that page and the buttons would shift around (ignoring for a second that the Filter button disappears when you go to the other pages). The Members button would magically reappear on the other pages. Or am I being too hobgobliny?

Thanks,
Mark

moderated Time stamp wrong - CORRECTION #bug

Andy

Oops, I just sent a message (hasn't shown up here yet) about messages with the wrong time-stamp.

The problem is on my end!  Somehow, Windows reset my computer's system time to an extra hour into the future.  The time-stamps being applied by Groups.io were indeed correct.  My computer's clock was wrong.

Hopefully, this message will not be posted, and will stop my other message from being posted.

moderated Wrong time zone? #bug

Andy

I am seeing this new situation today:

New messages are being time-stamped one hour in the past.

I am in the Eastern time zone, currently observing Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

I tried this on two different groups.  When I send a new message, or when someone else sends a new message, it arrives with a time stamp one hour in the past, as if it is Eastern Standard Time for me.  The wrong time stamp is seen both when looking at the message in the web interface, and in the message as it arrives in my email inbox.

At the moment I can't find where one can set their settings on Groups.io.  But everything was OK before, until today.

If you don't want the 'wider membership' to be able to see that information then surely you wouldn't give them access to the list that shows it.

Aha; I see that the Not Confirmed have their own entry in the drop down now, and that status badges have been added as well. (Good that!)

However, when I tried it the NC filter isn't picking out any NCs but is letting the full list through.

Or was I testing too soon..?

moderated call it "newsletter" instead of "announcement-only-group" #suggestion

ro-esp

"announcement-only" implies that every member can announce things but discussion is not allowed. Groups where only admins can post should be called "newsletter" (or maybe something else) to prevent confusion

Well it's certainly changed! A further check has revelaed that Approve Pending Members no longer seems to be required.

If you don't have that permission, the Pending Approval checkbox does not appear in the list.

If you don't have the Manage Member Subscriptions permission, the Bouncing checkbox does not appear.

If you don't have the Manage Member Subscriptions permission and you don't have the Ban Members permission, the Banned checkbox doesn't appear.

These correspond to the behavior before the filter change.

Thanks,
Mark

Seems to me it should be this:
  • You have to be a Moderator (or Owner), and
  • At least one permission that allows you to view the Member List (i.e.: one of the last 6 listed under Moderator Permissions).
