moderated call it "newsletter" instead of "announcement-only-group" #suggestion

ro-esp

"announcement-only" implies that every member can announce things but discussion is not allowed. Groups where only admins can post should be called "newsletter" (or maybe something else) to prevent confusion

I'm not certain that the "wider membership" should be able to see who is banned, or who on a mainly moderated group can see those who are not moderated. Or those who "cannot post".  Or whc cannot start a topic without being moderated. And so on...

Well it's certainly changed! A further check has revelaed that Approve Pending Members no longer seems to be required.

If you don't have that permission, the Pending Approval checkbox does not appear in the list.

If you don't have the Manage Member Subscriptions permission, the Bouncing checkbox does not appear.

If you don't have the Manage Member Subscriptions permission and you don't have the Ban Members permission, the Banned checkbox doesn't appear.

These correspond to the behavior before the filter change.

Thanks,
Mark

Seems to me it should be this:
  • You have to be a Moderator (or Owner), and
  • At least one permission that allows you to view the Member List (i.e.: one of the last 6 listed under Moderator Permissions).

Fixed as in..? What is now the "critical" setting for someone to have the membership filter working correctly?

Mark; I have been investigating this on a test group and at the moment it seems that for the filter to work (i.e. activate the "Apply" button) two permissions need to be set:

(a) Set Moderator Privileges, and
(b) Approve Pending members.

If he can view the member list, it seems logical that he should be able to filter it.
Not entirely true, as ordinary members may be allowed to view the list as well. There does need to be something else present to limit the use of the filter to moderators!

This is a really great upgrade. Thank you.
A second vote for adding a way to search for NC members please.

Hi Mark,

one of my subgroup Mods reported that he could not Apply the filters he had checked as the Apply button was inactive. After testing and some discussion on GMF I've found that it's down to his combination of Mod permissions. he has the following:

  • View Member List
  • Approve Pending Members
  • Remove Members

If he can view the member list, it seems logical that he should be able to filter it.

moderated Low priority #suggestion under direct add #suggestion

Not a game-changer but a titch confusing

Yesterday I tried a Direct Add and #suggest the
+ADD MEMBERS button be more clear.

I sat there thinking I was going to ADD more to the direct add (members) to the email. Why would I be doing that? 🤷‍♂️?

Typically many applications, “+” is the hieroglyphic to open a contact list or add a file to an upload.

SUBMIT or CONTINUE or SEND seems more standard fare?  The action isn’t adding a member anyway, they’re not members (yet). ADD TO MEMBERS, no hieroglyphics?

thx, Tiuxedo 🐈‍⬛

I concur. I have inherited a large membership where over two thirds of the membership is not receiving any email. And I am wondering how many of them created an account and have now simply forgotten about it.

Or you could just read all the "Received" header lines. The holdup is at rhe server that waited 18 hours before passing the message alomg.

Please let me know your thoughts or if you see something amiss (it was a fairly substantial change to the code). I wasn't sure where to place the Filter button, for one thing.
On a mobile phone there is no filter option (in portrait or landscape) even though there seems to be space to display it. All that is displayed is the Members, Past and Search buttons.  Can this be included on the mobile format too?

Thanks

That's there for consistency for how the rest of the site works.
Clicking it will clear all filters, as it just goes back to the
members page as a fresh visit.
As does clicking the Members button in the navigation pane on the left. Have I missed a subtle difference between the two?
The left-side menu bar does not appear on mobile...you would be forced to open the hamburger menu every time.

In other words, I think I agree with Chris' original assessment that the Members button above the list is now redundant. Directory, Photos, Files, and Wiki do not have such a button above their lists.
Those pages [currently] have no filtering function that needs to be reset.

Bruce

Me too!  Filters on the Past member's list would be good.

As Shal said, it's not expected behaviour and my notifications tend to come through almost immediately too.

If you paste the message headers from a delayed notification into this tool, it may help you identify where delays occurred:

(My underlininig)

I think so; the Members button at the top is the quickest way of clearing any filter selection and reverting to the full list. (On that basis I'd leave it where it is.) The Members tab on navigation pane only goes to the full list if there are no Pending members; if there are then it defaults to them.

One category that seems to be missing is the "NC" members, and IIRC this has been specifically requested. I think it would be useful to have it so that they can be more easily nudged to confirm or weeded out as appropriate.
