moderated Group sort displays sort by criterion not selected #bug

I'm bumping this up and calling it a bug.
https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/80967032#28597

The bug is that the results from a search for groups ignores whatever criterion the user has selected on the left for the sort order ("Most Popular," "Most Active," whatever) and instead always displays by "Newest," and it jumps down and changes the highlighted criterion on the left, whatever it is, to "Newest."

Following up on RSVP & Guests, is there a way to increase the # of Guests allowed. Maybe in the settings/special features you can up the #. Looking at a kids' talent show. So with the some kids, parents, maybe grandparents added, you can't include them all.
Thanks,
Anthony

moderated Member can still post a message with a hashtag set to Use by Mods Only #bug

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

If a hashtag is marked as Moderated and also Use by Mods Only, a member can post a message that appears in the pending message list. So, it seems that the Moderated attribute takes priority over Use by Mods Only.  If a hashtag is set as Use by Mods Only, shouldn't that take priority?

Andy

moderated Repost error with restricted repost hashtag #bug

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

if a member tries to repost a message the system adds a #repost hashtag. However, if this hashtag had the 'Use by Mods Only' attribute set, the member is left hanging with a blank screen after clicking Yes to confirm the repost.

Andy

moderated Email System Reporting Groups.io as Potential Spam #bug

Sam M Cohen

When sending a message to one of my groups, I "receive" the message as a group member, with the shown security warning:

According to the email service, the Groups.IO service seems to be sending as the @ieee.org email address.  Since this is an external service, the receiving email system can not verify that @groups.io is authorized to send on behalf of IEEE.  This is why the message is flagged.

Can anything be done to eliminate this issue?

moderated Re: DDoS against our DNS servers #outage

Hi All,

I realized I didn't follow up with this. The attack stopped about 45 minutes after it started. We had DNS issues for about 5-8 minutes at the start of the attack before I could mitigate it.

The DNS servers normally see 200-300 requests/second. During the attack, we were seeing 6k requests/second.

Everything should be back to normal.

Also, your puns are awful. I love it.

Thanks,
Mark

Oh no Mark, this is not good. I surely hate this. I hope that it is resolved soon.

moderated Stricter treatment of invalid hashtags #bug

Peter Cook

This seems to me to lie somewhere between a suggestion and a bug.

We use hashtags a lot in my premium group, which is set up so that members can only use existing hashtags; if an invalid hashtag is used. the message is kicked back. But if someone puts a hashtag in the subject line and inadvertently follows it with a punctuation mark (for example, "#FREE:" instead of the valid hashtag "#FREE"), the message is not kicked back. It goes right on through and of course the string is not recognized as a hashtag. However, if someone were to send a message with the string "#FREEP," it would be treated as invalid.

I'd like to see stricter rules so that any string in the subject line beginning with # is seen as an invalid hashtag unless it corresponds precisely to an existing one. So "#FREE:" would be treated as an invalid hashtag just as "#FREEP" would, and the message would be kicked back.

Pete

Yeah, I'm gonna have to have a word with them punks to leave the cats alone, this is pawsitively a Distributed Denial of Groups.io Service (DDoGS) attack.

moderated approval message loses and alters formatting #bug

Glenn Glazer

For example, in a recent Message Approval email, a line looks like:

*So, at our meetings starting on 3/24, we're going to use the Zoom waiting
room feature. Guests will be respectfully asked to identify themselves and
will be admitted into the session when they do so.*

whereas in the approved email sent out to the group, it looks like:

So, at our meetings starting on 3/24, we're going to use the Zoom waiting room feature. Guests will be respectfully asked to identify themselves and will be admitted into the session when they do so.

In case the formatting of this email gets mangled, in the first case the text is surrounded by asterisks and formatted to a short (80?) column width and in the actual email, it is properly underlined and there are no inserted line breaks.

Best,

Glenn

moderated On hashtag definition screen, make Lock Topic subordinate to Topic Duration #suggestion

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

To avoid confusion between Lock Topic and Locked on the hashtag definition screen, can we make the Lock Topic checkbox subordinate to the Topic Duration and only active when the Duration is something other than Forever?

Making Lock Topic active only when the Duration is changed would keep that option in line with recent Advanced Preference changes regarding Following Only and First Message Also etc. As it stands, Lock Topic can be checked on its own but has no effect.

Thanks,
Andy
