This type of unsubscribe request fails if the email program adds a
signature to postings, like mine do. Some email lists recognise 'stop' after the 'unsubscribe' as a command to ignore everything that follows. eg unsubscribe stop Fred Blogs site link Dave On 7 Nov 2020 at 9:04, JohnF via groups.io wrote: On Fri, Nov 6, 2020 at 10:30 PM, Mark Fletcher wrote:As long as you confirm it, you might want to do the same thing if http://davesergeant.com

As long as you confirm it, you might want to do the same thing if someone sends the word "stop". This isn't traditionally used in stopping email lists, but it has become standard in stopping SMS lists. Someone who is more used to texting than joining email lists might try that. (I don't have any real life examples of someone who did, just thinking ahead.) JohnF

Same bug in Unsubscribe confirmation email.

As one would expect from a well-organized developer, same bug in the
"Confirm Your Groups.io Unsubscribe Request" email.
The canned emails are very friendly and clear, BTW.

Bad link in confirmation email
#bug
1. Using a different gmail account from the account used to set up a test group called Curt-Test, I sent an note to Curt-Test+subscribe@groups.io
2. Got this reply "Confirm Your Groups.io Subscription. Thank you for your interest in Groups.io and the group Curt-Test@groups.io. To complete your subscription, please reply to this email. If you did not request - or do not want - a subscription to this group, please accept our apologies and ignore this message.
Cheers,
The Groups.io Team"
3. Ignored the instructions and clicked on the link, which sent a note to the group. 4. Got this response from Gmail: "Delivery Status Notification (Failure) Message not delivered
Your message couldn't be delivered to Curt-Test@groups.io because the remote server is misconfigured. See technical details below for more information.
The response from the remote server was:
510 5.1.1 Your email address, <redacted>@gmail.com, is not subscribed to that group. To subscribe, send an email to Curt-Test+subscribe@groups.io, or visit https://groups.io/g/Curt-Test "
5. When I ignored the link and sent a reply to the Confirmation email, it worked fine. The address in the reply was tagged: "Groups.io" <Curt-Test+subscribe+939633873206536861+5163825@groups.io> Issue: When I looked closely at the confirmation email, I saw that the link was mailto:Curt-Test@groups.io
-- in other words, causing the applicant to submit a post to a group that they are not yet a member of. Suggested fix: The mailto link provided in a confirmation email should have been
Curt-Test+subscribe+939633873206536861+5163825@groups.io -- i.e. matching the reply address built into the confirmation email. Thanks! --cg

billing showis nonzero amount of space used for "database images" but we have no database
#misc
Our group used to have a Cats database and we eventually got rid of it. Our Database tab shows "no tables." Yet under Billing, we are still being dec'd by some amount of space for "Database Images." Maybe this is a bug, or maybe it's space used for a setup that exists in every group even if there is no database yet, but either way, it sure looks weird. Also, if it's the latter, I don't think that space should come out of the allocated allowable space if the group doesn't use the feature.

Re: Archive PremiumS
#suggestion
Bill,
If a list is falling back to Free from Premium... and might not like it, they may take 30 days to really discuss it, and 30 to act. You can simulate downgrading a free group by selectively (depending on when the group was created) locking features down so folks cannot send attachments, upload files, etc, something that simulates being right up the 1 GB used space. That will give them a taste of how things will be with a 1 GB limit! Cheers, Christos

Just a thought... If a group loses subgroups because of the downgrade, the subgroups are locked, not deleted. You can still see the archives, but it's all read-only. Cheers, Mark

Archive PremiumS

Just a thought...
If a list is falling back to Free from Premium... and might not like it, they may take 30 days to really discuss it, and 30 to act. So maybe Archive their SubGroups etc, while allowing to see but no access, or perhaps as a teaser, no access but Read Only. And SubGroups is my best example at this early pre-coffee hour. It might apply to other lost teatures. Once these are "lost-forever," they may force themselves, in a foul mood, to live within Free. But if they can get them back within 60 or 90 days, voille. I had originally thought -30 days. But groups are ships and they turn slowly. BillSF9c

Publicly Listed Groups results
#bug
When paging through the results of the various views in the groups directory, there comes a point when it won't show the next page. It always happens when crossing over the 10,000 results line. As an example, if I go to https://groups.io/search?p=SubsCount,,,20,2,9980,0, all works fine. When I scroll to the bottom and use the right arrow to go to page 501, there are no results shown, even though it (currently) says 10001 - 10020 of 32031 and the URL shows https://groups.io/search?p=SubsCount,,,20,2,10000,0. I suspect it's when the results get into the 5 digit range. Probably not something many people will do, but it's a bit irritating when I'm playing with search parameters there. ;>)
Thanks, Duane

Yeah, it came in handy for this; the Online Follow everywhere
ability had been asked a few times before, so your post pushed it
off the table and into the done basket. :D

Re: Summary email has subject "digestnoreply"
#bug
One last note on this, for anyone on an iPhone: It turns out that ios 14.1 fixes the "sends from wrong email address" bug. The bug was in 14.0. However, the fix results in the "name" part of the email being left out of emails from donotreply mass emails. That was the original source of my post here. The wrong-from-address occurred the day before and I noticed it in the morning.
Anyway, end of story except that on iPhones, summary and digest messages from groups.io now have strange-looking from addresses, by virtue of lacking the name of the group they're about. -- J Messages are the sole opinion of the author, especially the fishy ones.

Database ordering and datetime field
#suggestion
A date time field would be a handy feature for the database for a use case we have: we need to add entries for past events that occurred at a specific date and time, we then need to display the entries ordered from oldest to latest date & time.
Either that, or some way to link the existing date & time fields together for sorting purposes? It would also be nice to be able to set a field as the default sort order for display purposes. Chris

Re: Wording to disable two-factor (2FA)
#suggestion
Concerning my original suggestion, I don't mind if you added "(NOT your OTP)" however my point is to not say any more in the label than what needs to be entered in that text field. I was mistaken because I quickly saw the words "Two-Factor Authentication" and to me that confirmed it was asking for the OTP same as all my other sites I was removing it from.
Who knows maybe someone else cannot understand what you need unless you also add all the things it does not need, but that was not my problem. Bruce Bowman said: > How about "Enter Your Password (NOT your OTP)"
