This is great. But when I happily checked out the change, I noticed that right below that, some groups say "members can set their subscriptions to no email," but the ones that don't allow it don't say so. So it's a parellel situation. That said, I don't know whether it's (a) going to extremes or (b) simply making things more consistent by doing the same with this one too.

I don't recall any announcement to this effect. What's in error, the page or my memory?

Initially, API access was going to be a premium only feature, but since the app uses the API, there's no practical way of limiting access. So it's available to all.

Good that some of them treat spamhaus itself as spam! :-)

I'm sorry but you are missing the point here. The problem is that Spamhaus has blacklisted Groups.io and service providers are reacting accordingly by bouncing Groups.io traffic in its entirety, not shunting it into individual's spam boxes.

At the moment it seems to be OK, but who knows what the next few hours will bring...

J,

I can reproduce this error using the current release of Thunderbird for Macintosh, version 78.4.0. It happens whenever I try to reply to a message using the footer links (either Reply to Group or Reply to Sender), whether it is an individual message or in a digest. A new tab opens in Thunderbird with the title "Loading..." and nothing further happens. (See attached screenshot.) If this is not the case in Thunderbird for Windows, it would point to a bug in Thunderbird for Mac. If it also occurs in Thunderbird for Windows then I would be surprised that it has not been reported before now. In that case it could be a general Thunderbird bug or it could be due to the way Groups.io formulates the footer reply links.

The workarounds for an individual message is 1) to use the Thunderbird interface to reply to the group (or to the sender, if the individual's email address is known). or 2) to make the reply using the Groups.io web interface. The only way to reply to a message In a digest is to use the Groups.io web interface.

Thanks for describing the position; I asked because I would not want to post on beta about something that had already been flagged up automatically. At least we now know that raising it here is not superfluous noise.

At least I hope it isn't. :)

There already is one. Looking at Pending Approval...

Click the checkbox for the person to whom you wish to resend a Pending Membership Notice.
Click on Actions at the bottom
Click on Resend Pending Membership Notice.

Job Done.

I do not get any notification. There are three indicators: complaints on beta@, mail queues filling up, and error messages from email servers when we try to send messages to them.

With Spamhaus, we've now been blocked 3 times in the last week. They give me the times that they've seen spam, within +/- 5 minutes. I've gone through the logs and tried to correlate email addresses that we've sent messages to during those times. That has resulted in 2 email addresses, both of which are legit and long term subscribers to multiple groups that have received a lot of email over the past several days.

It could be that messages are being delayed as they're routed to Spamhous, so the time frames given may be incorrect. Or something else. Clearly I'm missing something.

They responded to my email yesterday afternoon with a canned response about checking for malware on my server. I responded immediately, and have not gotten anything back as of yet. They say do not try to send multiple emails to support, so I've been holding off.

There was an instance maybe a year and a half ago, where a group transferred from Yahoo. One of the email addresses was a honeypot email address for the Trend Micro blocklist. That email address had been on the Yahoo Group for years previously. But when the group moved over here, that triggered a block. I wonder if something similar is happening here.

Thank you Bob, yes, will do if it continues.  I just find it "strange" that this seems to happen while io groups is facing blacklisting in various places.  I usually only have real spam in the spam folder.
