I did end up having to copy/paste a word doc last night (which results in formatting issues). I don't want to constantly being worried about this. I have also discovered this, but also found one example that is re-creatable.
My mobile phone is great for taking photo's but terrible for uploading pictures, it runs out of memory and is unable to load. Showing me this message wipes my draft copy - its my phone that error's, so not sure why it does this. I now upload images to photo's/files and link from there instead. Taken me ages to put 2+2 together. Hope this helps to contribute to a solution. Having a "Save draft" button would solve all the random weird behaviour observed by differing users.

I can further characterize the behavior, in case it helps: the system seems to get stuck on the first draft, no matter how many times I change or add to it. And it happens when I go outside the composition window to check on something else on the site, usually either a file or another message.

Re: drafts disappearing - bad

This is happening again in spades tonight and I'm certain I'm not going offline. And the message I'm trying to post is very technical and complicated so this is extremely frustrating. I don't know what can be done to diagnose this behavior but I'm ready to give up and create a word document and paste it in.

Re: In group with "moderate posts from non-members" set, banning the non-member does not work
#bug
I just ran a test and I can't reproduce this. I'm sorry for the false alarm. It seems to be fine and possibly I clicked the wrong thing. I'll see if it happens again in the future and report here.

In group with "moderate posts from non-members" set, banning the non-member does not work
#bug
I have a basic group which is set to "moderate posts from non-members." We are getting frequent messages from somebody's LinkedIn account asking to connect. I always ban these email addresses, which is one of the options when a message comes in from a non-member email address. However, I discovered today that the addresses are not being banned. They're not in the Banned Members list, and the activity log shows only that the messages were deleted.

p.s. Looking again at the list, I see this:
"Integrations: Up to 5" but it is not clear what the difference is between that and what I have now. The feature is listed in green but there is no comment as to whether this is legacy enabled, or would be disabled, or would change in number. So that could be clearer. (I don't use integrations anyway, so this is just an FYI.) -- J Messages are the sole opinion of the author, especially the fishy ones.

NEW: In the Billing tab, for premium groups, show which features would be enabled/disabled if you downgraded to the free plan. This is a great feature but I would make one improvement. "Direct add" is highlighted in red as a feature that would not be enabled if I switched my group to basic. The rest are green and say "legacy enabled." However, if I look closely, I see that the storage is downgraded (from 20 GB to 1 GB) but is still green. I would highlight storage downgrades in red as well. -- J Messages are the sole opinion of the author, especially the fishy ones.

"NEW: You can create files in the Files section that are links to Google Docs/Dropbox/Box/OneDrive documents."
A belated huge thanks for this update, Mark What we don't find out until we actually use it is that it provides inline viewing of all the file types that Dropbox and the other cloud services support and that groups.io didn't support. That includes mp4 and just about every file type imaginable. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!! -- Bob Bellizzi

Cox and Comcast email delivery
#update
Hi All, Some email generated yesterday for cox.net is still in the mail queue, waiting to be delivered. This is on the new email server that I've been gradually increasing the load on over the past few weeks. Yesterday, we tripped a limit for cox.net with that server, and they stopped accepting email from that machine. I've halted all new email delivery through the new server and am waiting for the cox.net messages to drain. I've been in contact with the Cox folks, and they've made some changes so that this won't happen again, but unfortunately it'll take some time for the changes to take effect. In addition, email generated today for comcast.net is being delayed. I've also been in contact with the Comcast folks, and they say that maintenance work on their email infrastructure is to blame for the slow delivery. This maintenance work is scheduled to last through the end of the month. Thanks, Mark

Search for all messages
#bug
I stumbled across this odd behavior. I'm not really sure if this is a bug or an idiosyncrasy of the way the site works. I had a member that left, then rejoined 3 years later with a new account, but the same email address. (I can only guess that they deleted their account in between since it has a different member ID, but it may also be because of changes to the site while they were gone, 7/16-9/19.) If I find the original account in the Activity log and select one of their messages, it takes me to it. If I then select More > All Messages By This Member, it gives me a list of many messages in the group, though none from that member. In addition, the upper right says 1-50 of 10000, though there are 35428 messages on the group. For another member that hasn't rejoined, the More > All Messages By This Member does show me all their messages correctly. Probably not something that's going to happen often, so maybe not worth spending much time on.
Thanks, Duane

Pre- Payment
#suggestion
Alan
Hello, It looks like we need to wait for Groups.io to send us an invoice which is then charged to the credit card on file then, if payment succesful, a new "Next payment due" date is shown for one year hence. It would be nice to have a button to "Pay x additional years" (maybe even with a small discount perhaps) - I'd understand if only Full Year subscription payments were allowed (i.e. no weird partial payments to reduce accounting hassle). Thank you for your consideration,

I've experienced bouncing as well. The link to the error messages say "550 No Such User Here". The latest was 10/12/20, 5:39pm. I click on the link to unbounce the account.
I can provide more details if needed. -Terry

Repeated bounces for member with mac.com iCloud address
#bug
Sarah Tappon
I have a member with a @mac.com email address who is having the majority of his groups.io emails (although not all of them) bounce. This is the message I see in his email delivery history: mx02.mail.icloud.com: 554 5.7.1 [CS01] Message rejected due to local policy. Please visit https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204137
This may be the same root problem as this bounce issue posted earlier today, but from Googling it sounds like this issue has been around for iCloud addresses (at least sporadically) for a few years, so I am not sure. Is there anything to be done here? This is a small group where it's critical that all subscribers can get all emails, so I am hoping we can find a solution. Thanks!

After a bunch of research, it appears that the DNS resolver on our main email server was failing under high load in a way that I was not aware of. Most of the time this was mitigated by us retrying the DNS lookup, but for some cases, like yours, it would cause an error. With the extra DNS cache capacity I added earlier this week along with some tweaks to our lookup code, it looks like we haven't had any failures lately and email to you is flowing ok. Thanks, Mark
