Cox and Comcast email delivery
#update
Hi All, Some email generated yesterday for cox.net is still in the mail queue, waiting to be delivered. This is on the new email server that I've been gradually increasing the load on over the past few weeks. Yesterday, we tripped a limit for cox.net with that server, and they stopped accepting email from that machine. I've halted all new email delivery through the new server and am waiting for the cox.net messages to drain. I've been in contact with the Cox folks, and they've made some changes so that this won't happen again, but unfortunately it'll take some time for the changes to take effect. In addition, email generated today for comcast.net is being delayed. I've also been in contact with the Comcast folks, and they say that maintenance work on their email infrastructure is to blame for the slow delivery. This maintenance work is scheduled to last through the end of the month. Thanks, Mark

Search for all messages
#bug
I stumbled across this odd behavior. I'm not really sure if this is a bug or an idiosyncrasy of the way the site works. I had a member that left, then rejoined 3 years later with a new account, but the same email address. (I can only guess that they deleted their account in between since it has a different member ID, but it may also be because of changes to the site while they were gone, 7/16-9/19.) If I find the original account in the Activity log and select one of their messages, it takes me to it. If I then select More > All Messages By This Member, it gives me a list of many messages in the group, though none from that member. In addition, the upper right says 1-50 of 10000, though there are 35428 messages on the group. For another member that hasn't rejoined, the More > All Messages By This Member does show me all their messages correctly. Probably not something that's going to happen often, so maybe not worth spending much time on.
Thanks, Duane

Pre- Payment
#suggestion
Alan
Hello, It looks like we need to wait for Groups.io to send us an invoice which is then charged to the credit card on file then, if payment succesful, a new "Next payment due" date is shown for one year hence. It would be nice to have a button to "Pay x additional years" (maybe even with a small discount perhaps) - I'd understand if only Full Year subscription payments were allowed (i.e. no weird partial payments to reduce accounting hassle). Thank you for your consideration,

I've experienced bouncing as well. The link to the error messages say "550 No Such User Here". The latest was 10/12/20, 5:39pm. I click on the link to unbounce the account.
I can provide more details if needed. -Terry

Repeated bounces for member with mac.com iCloud address
#bug
Sarah Tappon
I have a member with a @mac.com email address who is having the majority of his groups.io emails (although not all of them) bounce. This is the message I see in his email delivery history: mx02.mail.icloud.com: 554 5.7.1 [CS01] Message rejected due to local policy. Please visit https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204137
This may be the same root problem as this bounce issue posted earlier today, but from Googling it sounds like this issue has been around for iCloud addresses (at least sporadically) for a few years, so I am not sure. Is there anything to be done here? This is a small group where it's critical that all subscribers can get all emails, so I am hoping we can find a solution. Thanks!

After a bunch of research, it appears that the DNS resolver on our main email server was failing under high load in a way that I was not aware of. Most of the time this was mitigated by us retrying the DNS lookup, but for some cases, like yours, it would cause an error. With the extra DNS cache capacity I added earlier this week along with some tweaks to our lookup code, it looks like we haven't had any failures lately and email to you is flowing ok. Thanks, Mark

I'm definitely seeing an uptick of new groups being created. Are you still offering uploads of mboxrd message archives in return for a year of Premium (not the Premium trial)? Some folks still have their privacy dashboard downloads from last year, or may have a folder in an email client that can be exported into this format. It is understood that messages posted in the past year that were not so captured are irretrievably lost. Yes, if they have the privacy dashboard download from last year, I can import the messages (no support for importing files/photos/etc). If they upgrade to a year of premium, they can then send an email to support, which will be flagged as priority, and I'll see it. I ask that people put their archive on a file sharing service, like Dropbox, and then send a link to that to support, because sending large files over email, especially to the CRM system I use for support, does not work very well. Thanks, Mark

wrong navigation for clicking on rejected member in activity log

If you reject a pending member in a premium group, they go into the Past Members list. Yet if you click on them within the activity log entry about their rejection, you're taken to the (current) members list, which bears no relationship to them (except the null relationship - "they're not here";).
I understand that in a basic group this makes some sort of sense, since there's nowhere else to go. But it seems that in groups where the Past Members list exists, the navigation should take you there, not to the members list. -- J Messages are the sole opinion of the author, especially the fishy ones.

Demise of Yahoo Groups

Mark -- It appears that Y!G is pulling the plug on even their "new, improved" email-only product, effective Dec 15 (one year after removing all online content). Some folks still have their privacy dashboard downloads from last year, or may have a folder in an email client that can be exported into this format. It is understood that messages posted in the past year that were not so captured are irretrievably lost. If so, what is the best way for such people to contact you? We in GMF need some way to refer them to someone who can do something about it. Thanks, Bruce

If course “successful” means the user has to have clicked on the link to unbounce themselves;) Which is why I asked Bob how he knew it had been siccessful. There would have been a log entry “is no longer bouncing.”
