Re: drafts disappearing - bad
#bug
I’ve never had drafts disappear before yesterday. They’d always, up until then, been saved automatically the moment I started typing. I would definitely not want to have to save them manually. The automatic saving of drafts is a great (and IMO needed) feature, and came about through need.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
What currently is not saved are drafts of edits of pending messages (and I do wish those could be saved as well). That was definitely not the situation with the glitch I experienced last night. But it might be the issue you are noticing if you see drafts disappearing a lot.

I have found - over the years - that half written messages in groups.io have a tendancy to disappear - while there is an automatic feature to save draft messages, I have never quite understood quite when it actually would do so; and would much prefer to have a manual option...

Re: drafts disappearing - bad

I now can't reproduce this. Did anyone else experience it? I had to use two windows on groups.io, one for my ongoing draft and one fo look up other things (because the draft kept disappearing), but after finally sending the message, I went into my test group to try to reproduce the bug and couldn't.

drafts disappearing - bad
#bug
Three, maybe even four times tonight I've worked on a detailed draft of a message, gone outside the composition window to look something up, and come back to find the draft entirely gone except for the original first sentence.

How about the ability to schedule polls?

I own a group that is used by the Board of Directors of a national organization and we cast our votes using polls. As the Secretary of the organization, I would love the ability to schedule polls as we always vote after a 48 hour discussion period.

Re: delay in approvals of pending messages
#bug
Further to this, I did a resend of a pending member notice to a pending member at 7:39 this morning (according to the log) and then checked the person's email delivery history to see if it had gone through. (I always check this because when a person doesn't return the questionnaire and I have to resend, I become concerned about whether they've been receiving the notices.) It hadn't. I checked the log a couple of minutes later and it is showing as delivered at 7:41. I think these used to go through immediately, or near immediately. Of course two minutes is not a significant delay in terms of functionality, but it is odd. Just a data point.

Being on several groups with over enthusiastic moderators who delete
virtually all quoting leaving my messages totally out of context for email recipients this is a practice that irks me enormously. What I post on groups is what I want to see published. If the moderator doesn't like any accidental excess quoting he should tell me not to do it the next time not just delete what he doesn't like. There may be a case for COMPRESSING large attachments but anything else is totally wrong. It would be nice if the "Edit pending message" function allowed a moderator to add as well as delete attachments.
For example, we want only PDF attachments, not .docx etc. and it would be helpful if a moderator could convert an attachment if it is not the desired form before approving the message. That would require being able to add new attachments to the message. Currently is is only possible delete an existing attachment. (Yes, we ask people to convert to PDF before attaching to posts, but some don't know how and frankly are unlikely to learn because they know nothing but their 10-year-old copy of MS Word :-|

delay in approvals of pending messages
#bug
Mark,
I'm seeing similar delay behavior in message approvals (via emal) today to what I saw when there was the email delay problem. For example, I approved a message via email and it had not gone through within several minutes. I eventually had to go to the site to approve it, and by that time other messages in the thread had already gone through that made it somewhat obsolete. I probably would not have bothered to report this except that I know there was the other delay problem prior to this, and perhaps they are related. -- J Messages are the sole opinion of the author, especially the fishy ones.

What is "status.groups.io"?
When I go there, it says (among other things): Sep 20, 2020 No incidents reported. Seriously? I guess you're saying things get reported only when you manually enter them, which tends to be never. Got it. Andy

Thanks, Mark! That's a big help.
I think this bug may inhabit a few other places, such as the Groups list and Members list.
