Permalinks for the help center
#suggestion
Mark,
For all the same reasons that Wiki pages needed permalinks for their URLs, the same is true for for Help Center pages and sections. Every link in the nav column ought to be a permalink. This would spare Nina and other GMF members an ongoing struggle to correct the link rot that results from section reorganization and heading changes in Help pages. Shal P.S. Thank you Nina for your recent round of Wiki updates!

Use images from files section in file picker
#suggestion
Glenn Glazer
It would be nice, especially for things like the cover photo and
icon choosers, to be able to select an already uploaded file from
the file section rather than upload a file from the local computer.
This saves the step of downloading the file just to upload it again.
In our case, the person uploading the files is not the person who is
the group owner, so the file isn't just already there.
Best, Glenn --

Re: Enable ability to copy from database entry without going through edit

and would like to be able to copy and paste the member's email address from our member databaseTerry, following on from our private messages I found a work around that may help you for now. If you try to copy any text from a row when the table is in list view it opens up the details page for that entry as you say. However, it does not do that in Map view. To get Map view you need a) a premium group that offers that feature and b) a column in your table of type 'address'. You don't need a value in any address field and you can set it to be hidden by default. Changing the table view from List to Map will display a map above the data rows but with no map pins so you can ignore it. In this view, you can copy any selected text to your clipboard quite easily without it opening the row details page. Regards, Andy

We cache a count of pending members in the database. Sometimes this count gets out of sync, when someone merges their account with another account, or someone deletes their account. We (currently) don't update pending member counts when that happens. I have a process that I run on an ad hoc basis that fixes these problems. I've run it today and your pending member count should be fixed now. Thanks, Mark

Re: Pending member notification but no one is pending?

Christina,
I had this happen to me a couple of times before, and it seems something is getting cached somewhere, because I can log out of GIO, restart the browser, login back to GIO, and it's gone. So give that a try and see if it works for you as well. You can also try logging in using a different browser to see if it doesn't happen there. Cheers, Christos

Re: Pending member notification but no one is pending?

Did you check your activity log to see if possibly someone applied for membership, and then unsubscribed before you acted on the application? That can happen, but if so, the pending member count should be reduced, and maybe it’s not, which would be a bug.

Pending member notification but no one is pending?
#bug
Christina Shideler
I apologize if this has been addressed before, a quick search did not bring it up. Also, if this is simply a case of user error on my part, please enlighten me!
I'm a moderator of a group and I think we're experiencing a bug (unless I'm missing something!). For a couple of weeks, there's been a number next to the Members in our admin tool bar. This has historically meant that we have a pending member, and indeed when I click on Members it defaults to pending members. But there are no pending members! The issues seems to have started when I approved a pending member who I think was already in the group. Is there any way to get rid of this number, and stop it defaulting to a blank screen of pending members? Attaching a screenshot to show what I mean.

In that case, it can be dangerous not knowing for sure where the email is going, because you have to make sure you're directly beneath the intended recipient in the message list. I bcc only because I want to doublecheck on that and always breathe a sigh of relief when I see from the bcc that it went to the person I wanted it to go to. Simplay displaying the email address at the time of the private reply would remove that anxiety. This doesn't give away any more information than what's already known, since it's already in the emailed message anyway. -- J Messages are the sole opinion of the author, especially the fishy ones.

...sending of emails to other members without making their email address visible...
Not true. Normally email addresses are not displayed. However, When you click on Email in the Directory, the window for Email shows at the very top where the Email is supposed to go, that is, member's Email address. So it is made visible at this point. A member can copy it and save. So member's Email address is no longer private. Mahendra Bakshi.

Hi Mark,
when editing a plan text pending message, the -- Add Tags -- drop-down field does not add the selected tag to the subject line like it does when editing HTML messages. Regards Andy

Seems to me that an email address is needed to do that. How would another member contact them otherwise? It's perfectly possible to belong to a group just to read messages. The Directory allows members to contact others without knowing their email address. There's nothing in the documentation to say that if you make certain details in your profile visible to others via the Directory then you will also expose your email address. At the very least it should be documented and preferably highlighted with a message when someone makes themself visible in the Directory (most people will not read the manual). An alternative of course would be to remove the BCC option when sending a message via the Directory from those who do not have access to the membership list. I would not advocate just making the membership list available to all members as that's not necessary for a group to function successfully. Andy

Actually they don’t need to worry about that anyway because users would only see it if they’re in the directory or if they post. So as Duane said originally, all they have to do is opt out of the directory.

They can opt out of the directory and would also have to opt out of creating a profile/userID, which also lets you email them. I don't find this problematic as long as it's documented.

I suppose if you join just to *read* messages, then the Directory might be a concerning leak. Otherwise, your email address goes out every time you post. Every message sent from a group via email contains the poster's address in the From: line. I do agree that the web interface obfuscates this somewhat, and you might be led to believe that your address is private. paul =---------------------- paul fox, pgf@foxharp.boston.ma.us (arlington, ma, where it's 57.4 degrees)
