Changes to the site this week:

  • BUGFIX: Fixed sorting of Files section search results.
  • INTERNAL: More work converting templates to quicktemplate.
  • UPDATE: Owners and Members manuals updates from Nina.
  • SYSADMIN: Upgraded the machine instance dedicated to virus scanning.
  • NEW: If your position on an event waitlist changes, you will be notified by email.
  • NEW: You can select either a grid or list display when viewing event rsvps.
  • NEW: Moderators and the event owner can now manage RSVPs, changing them to Attending/Not Attending/Not Sure. These changes are logged in the activity log.
  • CHANGE: If you are on the waitlist for an event, change your RSVP to no or not sure, and then change back to attending, you're put at the back of the waitlist.
  • NEW: When someone is moved off the waitlist, it is logged in the activity log.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed several issues with ICS file generation, especially around UTF-8 conversion. Also stopped stripping out ':' characters, because the other fixes addressed the original issue with ':'.

Take care everyone.

It looks like mail started getting through some time between 8:45 and 9:15 PDT last night, at least according to email delivery histories.

After reading your comment about nouns and verbs, etc I read the Official Owners' Manual chapter on Inviting.
It is extremely clear about which button performs which function, regardless of whether it is an a  djective, conjunction or whatever.
When in doubt, it really is a good idea to Read the Manual which is a quite new feature but very well done.
It's far better than the terrible engineering gobbeldegook of Chrome or Microsoft Help.

moderated Invite button clears the form #bug #suggestion

Mike Pompa

After an admin selects Invite on the left, there are two buttons at the top (serving as tabs) Invite and Sent Invitations.
On other pages, the buttons are all nouns. Invite is a verb and implies that it might do the same thing as the Send Invitation button at the bottom does.

As a first-time user of the invitation function, I was misled by that button and pressed it after first pasting in a list of email addresses at the bottom and then customizing the outgoing message. The Send Invitation button was offscreen. This resulted in refreshing the screen and losing the typed in customization. At first I assumed the message went out, but it wasn't.  Even after looking at the documentation, in my mind Invite would do the same thing as Send Invitation.

I would consider this a User Interface bug.

Possible ways to fix:
- Hide the button and only show it in the Sent Invitations page.
- Rename it to Reset Invitation  (because as a verb, that's what it actually does)
- Rename it to Send Invitation and make it do the same as the bottom button.

Database loadbalancer failure #outage

When:
Thursday, 23 July 2020
8:11am to 8:15am
(UTC-07:00) America/Los Angeles

Description:

The site was down for approximately 4 minutes because the machine instance hosting a pgbouncer service froze up, limiting access to our main database. Rebooting the machine fixed the problem. Running multiple pgbouncer instances would prevent this in the future, although this is a rarely occurring issue.

Mark, Not surprising given all the other crap they pull. I've had problems with AT&T for years but ISP choices are non-existent.

In case you didn't know, AT&T farms out it's mail servers to Yahoo (at least on the west coast). If you have a contact for yahoo you could try there.

If you haven't already made contact, some customer tech support numbers are: 877-353-5963 (U-Verse), 888-341-1270 (DSL) & 888-341-1270 (general)

These, of course, are only tier one support (possibly to India), and you will have to escalate the call to get someone who actually knows what is going on and can do something about it. But hope is eternal!

One other option is their chat line which may be quicker (Chat button on bottom right):

moderated Event RSVP changes #update

Hi All,

I've just pushed the following changes/improvements to our event RSVP system:

  • If your position on an event waitlist changes, you will be notified by email.
  • You can select either a grid or list display when viewing event RSVPs (remembering this setting is TBD).
  • Moderators and the event owner can now manage RSVPs, changing them to Attending/Not Attending/Not Sure (list view only). These changes are logged in the activity log.
  • If you are on the waitlist for an event, change your RSVP to no or not sure, and then change back to attending, you're put at the back of the waitlist.
  • When someone is moved off the waitlist by the system, it is logged in the activity log.

The RSVP management stuff is pretty complex and I made a lot of changes. I've tested everything, but please let me know if you see anything fishy. Or if you have suggestions.

(Reminder that the RSVP functionality is available to premium groups and free groups that were grandfathered in).

Thanks, Mark

Hello,

It appears as of a couple hours ago, ATT started blocking us. This means email to the following domains is not being delivered:

  • att.net

  • pacbell.net
  • prodigy.net
  • sbcglobal.net
  • flash.net

I'm trying to contact them.

moderated Filter database column #suggestion

effie hondos

I know we can click on a database column header to sort the information. However there's no option to filter a column to display specific data (within the site---I wanted to avoid download and manipulate in Excel).
Is that something that R&D can consider implementing (much like Excel allows filters).

Thanks, Effie

This change somehow slipped by me - we really need the direct add custom message to be automatically included when adding members. Our new members need the information at that point, and I'm puzzled why this "active" option was removed.  Please restore it.
Thanks

moderated date range bug in message search function #bug

KWKloeber

Using the custom date range when searching messages ain't workin'.
I search using ONE term, the search returns tons of messages -- many within the last year.

If I use a custom range, say two years back (ie, 21.07.2018 to 21.07.2020) nothing is returned.  Nada, Zip, Niet.

if I use the "past year" date range, the world is good.
If I use a custom range ONE year back (ie, 21.07.2018 to 21.07.2019) - again Nothing, Nada, Zip, Niet.

moderated #bug message forwarded by a 3rd party appears as coming from original sender in Outlook #bug

Kenny Paul

I think this is probably more an outlook bug than a gio bug, but I figured it was still worth bringing up here to see if anyone else has seen this behavior before.
Scenario:   A list member forwarded a g-cal invite to one of our lists.

Result:
  • In Gio- As expected the message displays as sent from the list member
  • In gmail¬†- As expected the message displays as sent from "<list member>¬†via lists.lfnetworking.org¬†to lfn-odl-onap-collab"
  • In outlook - unexpectedly¬†the message displays send from "lfn-odl-onap-collab@...¬†on behalf of <original sender>"¬† rather than on behalf of the list member.

It is worth pointing out that the <original sender> does also happen to be a list member, although the original email that was forwarded to the list was a private email sent outside of any Gio mechanism or control and and had never previously been sent to the list in any form.
Also worth noting, in this case there isn't a policy/security concern that a private email was forwarded to the list. Not an issue. Don't need any feedback on that aspect of it. ;-)

Thoughts?

Looks normal if you're using a narrow screen.  If it's not a computer, try landscape mode.
