Re: Yahoo Groups transfers on and extended to December 5th
Mark is - at minimum - a demigod. Evidence? Yahoo has become a hellscape, so a spark of divinity was needed! Or maybe Mark is Thor, hammering away until Yahoo's servers give up the goods.

Re: Yahoo Groups transfers on and extended to December 5th
Mark, you rock, you totally rock! We transferred our groups a while back (thank you!), and love groups.io. I told a whole lot of yahoo group folks about groups.io, and some of them did/are transferring their groups (some of them yelled at me, as others have noted). You have gone beyond multiple times! After all the ikk and mess at YG, it's so fine to see someone running a groups platform who obviously truly cares about the ability of people to have a well-functioning platform for groups.

Therefore, I have turned back on group transfer requests and have extended the deadline until Thursday, December 5th at 9AM Pacific Time. Keep your fingers crossed that Yahoo's servers stay up that long.To be totally clear: This means you have to GIVE THE GO-AHEAD for your transfer (complete Step 5) by this deadline. Simply initiating a transfer, or paying for Premium Yearly, or completing any of those other preliminary steps will not ensure you a spot in the transfer queue. Do not procrastinate...get started on this NOW, so the delays involved in inviting the transfer agent and making it a Moderator do not come into play. Those who have paid but are not able to execute an Easy Group Transfer will issued a refund upon request. Just email Mark at support@groups.io and he will refund your money and delete your group. Mark,
Thank you for your persistence in dealing with Yahoo's maddening failures and inconsistent performance. My family group transfer went through yesterday less than an hour after I hit the "proceed" button. I'm so grateful to you for all your hard work. best regards, Katie

Mark, I'd send you flowers if I knew how! THANK YOU. I'm almost weeping with gratitude, and it's not just relief to have this sorted. I feel like I've found a group of people who embody what the Internet was like in those early days - a spirit of sharing, generosity, competence, and curiosity.

This is a manifestation of Yahoo's latest issues. My changes yesterday to our crawler mostly work around this, and I'm seeing very few unretrievable messages since the changes went into effect yesterday. Basically, I'm hammering Yahoo's servers; I massively parallelized the crawler and also if it gets a failure, it retries a lot more times than before, in rapid succession. These are admittedly hostile behaviors, and if I was running Yahoo's servers, I'd not be pleased. But it seems to do the trick. Mark

Re: Re= Re: [beta] Yahoo Groups transfers on and extended to December 5th
I’m ready to make the leap except for this:
When I used the Chrome extension to download my group’s messages last night, only 10k of the 35k were retrievable. This included many of the recent messages. When I go to Yahoo I can see messages in short form (sender, subject, first line) but when I click to expand I get a blank box. These "blank-box messages” are the ones that failed to transfer. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Have a fix for it? Clearly it’s (deep breath) a YAHOO ISSUE. Gah. Does this indicate permanent failure? Exactly right, and diplomatically said. I moved my group four years ago and have never looked back. Add me to the thank you list for extending the deadline.
Just confirming that we should leave all boxes checked on the transfer request. Yesterday there were suggestions to uncheck messages because those transfers were the ones that weren't working.
THANK YOU!!!
