Well, we're kind of cut off right now as it is. I will keep trying and if things improve, I'll process what we have and make a decision then.

Thanks,

I have transferred 11 groups, one very recently, and I guess I just got under the wire for the last transfer. Thanks to all the effort, and how you really stepped up to the plate, when I did my last transfer there were 945 groups ahead of me, so WELL DONE.

Thanks.  All very good suggestions.

Going for sub-groups to use as main talking groups eventually as wanna work out how many of the members actually interact or actively lurking.

This will be used too.
Why don't you try going into your Settings page, scrolling down to Message Policies, and setting x in "Automatically Lock Topics after x Days" to the interval between now and the last yahoo message
Have made the setting today.  So that is utterly perfect.

Will use entry point to group as an Archive and just keep it locked down.

Cheers

I believe the message 'owner' can still delete a message, even if the topic is locked, though I haven't tried to verify it.

Why don't you try going into your Settings page, scrolling down to Message Policies, and setting x in "Automatically Lock Topics after x Days" to the interval between now and the last yahoo message thread (like, maybe, 10 days? or whenever the last historical message was posted that you want locked). groups.io will go through at midnight and lock all the topics older than x days. Then tomorrow, you can undo the setting. All the old topics that were locked will stay locked, and no new ones will time out. You may miss a few stragglers but it should get you close enough to what you want.

You can edit any locked topic so you can still add your hashtags, but you would have to do that by hand.

I can't say about what does or does not work on your old Yahoo group, but I made a new group on Yahoo after the October 28 deadline to monitor Yahoo falling apart. It had been mostly working up until today, including online posting and uploading files and so on.

All that is left now is the mailing list functionality. Surprisingly, at least to me, emailed posts are still also showing up online, although you can't reply or post online. Anyway, this is pretty much what they had threatened for October 28th. Looks like they gave a few extra weeks.

My first thought would be to ask if it's OK to load the old Yahoo group into a subgroup of the new Groups.io group, and make that subgroup read only. Then the main group can be used going forward, and if anyone wants to look up what was done in the past, they can visit the subgroup without being able to post there.

If everything has to be in the main group, then the best way to do it would probably be to load all of the Yahoo messages into locked topics. I don't know if that would have any ill effects.

Hi Mark,

Does this “free up” some of your time to consider some “system” tweaks?

In particular, I’d REALLY like to see a “Select all” option for the members display.  It is an unreasonable and unnecessary waste of Owner/Moderator time to have to plod through 1000+ members manually checking twenty at a time to make bulk adjustments.

One of my Moderators suggested that, for groups migrating over, there is no “need” to have to “approve” the first message sent out by people who have long belonged with no spam problem.  I know I (and probably most other Owners) checked the box to require this, but with the benefit of 20-20 hindsight, it is inappropriate to subject members of no spamming threat (and my Moderators) to such inconvenience that serves no valid purpose.  Would be nice to have a way to make a bulk adjustment of all such members to “unmoderated” (or other status).

Best!

Mark,

My block has both an old yahoo group (started by someone other than me) and a groups.io group that I started about 4 years ago. The yahoo people would not budge and join the new group until recently, when some of them started to realize that yahoo might actually go down. Still, many of them won’t join the new group because all they care about is the mailing list functionality. My question: Is it now the case that more of yahoo groups is dysfunctional than prsviously announced - i.e., is the mailing list functionality also down or degraded at this point?

Thanks for any info.

I'm not one of the people that you're transferring, but I just have to say I've been very impressed with all you have done during what I can only imagine has been a ridiculously stressful time. I just wanted to thank you and all who are working with you for your generous efforts and hard work!

moderated We are caught up

Hi All,

As of this morning, we've completely worked through the backlog of Yahoo Group transfer requests. It took 29 days, but we did it. :-)

I've removed the option to pay for a priority transfer.

I'm still only responding to support emails from premium group owners right now. There's just too much otherwise. Also, the beta group is still moderated.

A reminder: please get your transfer requests in by the end of the month.

Thanks,
Mark
