In case anyone else has noticed this and wondered what's going on: I have let Mark know via support that this fix resulted in a new bug, wherein if you change member X's posting status, it results in a false log entry "moderator changed display name from X to X."

In the link above for the RL000003 error, there is a note that says:

If the rate-limit is impacting your ability to deliver email, shortening your server's delivery retry interval should resolve the issue.

What retry interval does groups.io use if the destination server answers with an HTTP 421 response?

The cal-summary emails we receive are only listing the next 10 events.  Is there also a limit on how far in advance the system is checking for events to include on the summary?

Mark,

A GMF member reported a response text from Comcast that included this link:
http://postmaster.comcast.net/smtp-error-codes.php#RL000003

I don't know if you've seen that page but it is somewhat interesting, saying that the rate limiting is adaptive to the IP address' historic traffic levels. Which implies Groups.io may periodically bump into this as traffic expands due to new group formation and/or seasonal group usage. More interestingly, it provides a phone number for you (the sender) to contact.

Or is this just a been there/done that rabbit hole?

I just looked at my group as well.  No problem now with either Outlook or Comcast.  As Gerald says the posts are now instantaneous.

Just ran some tests and no issues here. Outlook.com to and from GIO are practically instantaneous.

Comcast may not be the only one doing this today.  I sent a message to my group through Outlook about 30 minutes ago.  So far, that message has  not arrived in my group.

Just a heads up about a possible Outlook problem.

Hi All,

It appears that Comcast has been throttling messages from us for the past several hours. These messages should eventually be delivered, once Comcast lifts the throttle. If you're a Comcast user, well I guess you're not going to see this anytime soon, but if you do, I'd appreciate it if you could complain to them. I think that helps.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark; thanks for that one in particular! Not that it is necessarily a frequent requirement...

I hope Mark enjoys himself.  Speaking for myself and my three groups we are grateful for the gift of these listservs (we are groups where we don't pay) and all the effort he puts into this site.

Don't.  Holidays are supposed to be holidays. We can survive a week and a half without you, and many of us have holidays too.

maybe you can invent a way to shut down a group temporarily, collecting contributions and not sending them until the predetermined date has arrived.

one of the key  reasons for pushing for a wiki is so our mbrs could put effort into posting answers/tips/fixes/experience re: “the same recurring issues” and not have to re-spin the wheel every time the question gets asked.  Easier to just post a link, right?
But they don’t get it. Apparently have too much time on their hands (retired?) and prefer to wordsmith over and over and over again.

The “ordering”?
non comprendo.

There is no ordering. LOL
thats an oxymoron for sure.

But it I suppose each grp might have different preferences?
hey what a great idea, group setting.

Yay! I have been requesting this for more than a year!

  • NEW: You can now view past member +Owner messages.
Yay to this, too!

  • CHANGE: When attempting to view member only parts of a group after you've been banned, instead of saying you were banned, we now say 'You are not a member of this group.'

And to this. Home run.

Have a wonderful vacation!

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • BUGFIX: We were not logging when a moderator changed a user's display name.
  • INTERNAL: A lot of work to support the API/app.
  • BUGFIX: Links in wiki pages were unintentionally opening in new browser windows.
  • NEW: You can now view past member +Owner messages.
  • CHANGE: When attempting to view member only parts of a group after you've been banned, instead of saying you were banned, we now say 'You are not a member of this group.'

The next #changelog will be sent on August 9th.

Have a good weekend everyone.
