Of course, an obvious fix to this would be a gio group setting so it sends out a notice, or the text of the post w/o any attachments and users have to read the msg/see attachment inline. Then it would act more like a real online forum and not an email service with a “side” web interface (same as Y!, google groups, etc.)

Or, option 2: change to something like simpleforums, which lets you edit attachments and has the option above (and many many more.)

moderated Re: Message edit menu missing picture and attach file option

Bruce,

The message and attachment has already gone out as emails. Changing an
attachment an hour or a day or a year later feels a lot like an
attempt to revise history.
That concern is already addressed by the Edit Message mechanism: when a member edits the message it is resent. I suggest that this remain true if that edit includes or consists solely of adding or replacing an attachment or image.

Likewise if a moderator edits a message: the moderator may choose to save without re-sending to the group, but it will be resent to the member who originally posted the message.

And is a clear indication, for future reference of a positive action taken.
But DO use the original message Subject line; DO NOT change it to some obsequious subject like "Correction" and have no logical path to the original message.
That way they stay related and linked when searched for.
If it was that important in the first place, then do it right!

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • CHANGE: When resending a pending member notification, we now prepend 'Resend: ' to the subject line.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed infinite scroll in the group hashtags view.
  • CHANGE: Moved 'Member Sync' button from Settings to Members, and renamed it 'Service Sync'. Also cleaned up formatting of the page.
  • NEW: In Direct Add and Invite, you can now select the member notice to include in the page. Edits to the member notice are no longer saved to the member notice. Also, in Member Notices, no direct add or invite notices are labeled as Active.
  • NEW: There's a new 'File Sync' button in Members, for the new file sync functionality. You can now sync your membership to a file. This is restricted to premium groups only and to parent groups only.
  • CHANGE: In the /groups page, changed the wording of individual delivery for better consistency.
  • BUGFIX: The example text in the invite screen did not always have the correct group name in some enterprise groups.
  • BUGFIX: On the search results page, the drop down for each topic had 'Edit Subject' listed twice.
  • BUGFIX: With Auto Moderate Threads, we were sometimes ignoring the # of days and moderating all threads created in the past day.
  • API: Misc formatting improvements to the API docs.
  • API: New hashtag endpoint: /gethashtags.
  • API: Added new draft endpoints: /newdraft, /updatedraft, /getdrafts, /deletedraft, /uploadattachment, /getattachments, /deleteattachments, /postdraft.
  • CHANGE: We now strip out the tracking image from Superhuman emails.
  • INTERNAL: Consolidated two of our internal monitoring apps into one program to make things easier.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed an issue with the /getevents API endpoint not returning any results.
  • SYSADMIN: Replaced the backup database instance because a kernel mismatch issue was causing backups to fail.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Having browsed around a bit, I understand now. "Service Sync" is the existing Slack Integration, but moved to the Members page. "File Sync" is essentially what Glenn asked for 10 days ago, for Premium groups only.

Cool!

If possible, I'd prefer that we place a checkbox in the "File Sync" screen to determine whether the Active member notice of type "Removed Member" is sent to each subscriber removed via that process, and have this checkbox checked by default. This seems less harsh than removing those subscribers without any explanation.

Bruce

Mark -- Perhaps I'm just being ignorant, but I still don't understand what you mean by "Member Sync" and "File Sync." Does it bear on this thread from last week: https://beta.groups.io/g/main/topic/32286937?

Perhaps it will be further explained in the weekly update.

Great, this is getting somewhere. I am eager for the same changes to be made for Rejected Subscription. It is a PITA to have to choose an active message before rejecting a subscription and then change it back each time.

I've changed it so that when you resend a pending subscription notice, it now prepends 'Resend: ' to the subject line. In order to track the number of times a pending subscriber message has been sent, I'd need to add a column to the subscription table in the database, which I'd like to avoid if possible.

Thanks,

Yep. It really isn't a huge change and may help you.

Hi Mark,
I use Direct Add every day and use it with a modified notification to the new user. Am I going to be able to add a document of my own that contains all the special information and use that instead of or in addition to the standard notice?

This seems like it will impact the volume of my daily work pretty significantly.

I'm with Ken on this one. The message and attachment has already gone out as emails. Changing an attachment an hour or a day or a year later feels a lot like an attempt to revise history. It seems more straightforward just to send another message with the updated attachment, while deleting the old message from the archive, if you have to.

There’s valid arguments against being able to do that.

I understand the argument against that, seeing that gio is an email service unlike an online forum. I don’t like it, but I’ve bowed to it because it makes logical sense (so few things do these days, so I’ll sign onto anything that helps preserves that.) LOL!

moderated Re: Add "second request," "third request," etc. to email subject when resending pending notice #suggestion

I am now repeating my request for this feature. I strongly fee that if possible, the second and third sendings of the pending message should be labeled as such. We have now experienced, not for the first time, a member who has responded identically to the both the first and second pending messages, sending us two emails, having apparently seen them both in her inbox at the same time and not realized that the second one was simply a repeat of the first. Labelling as "second attempt" would have prevented this.

That would be very useful - to edit a message and add a missing attachment or photo. Or to change the attachment if we made a mistake.

moderated Edit RSVPs

Nancy Funk

I'm not sure if I asked for this before or not. But here goes. :) Could we please allow group owners & moderators the ability to change RSVPs for members. Our group hosts field trips and other outings, we need the ability to waitlist members who repeatedly no-show to events. Also, because many of our members have no clue how to change their RSVP, even with being shown how to, we need the ability to do that for our members as it comes up.  Thanks!
