Besides, it’s just a simple change in wording. The groups that have a habit of resending the notice are going to do it anyway.  Not implementing the change in wording won’t change that. You’re still free to insist that your members respond to the first notice.

If they disregard messages after expressing a desire to join, it's a reflection on their attitude indicating you're group really isn't that important to them.

Right. It also could be called “second attemot” instead of “request.” Not sure which is better. But either one gets more attention than a simple resend.

I just got a message from a veterinary pharmacy with title beginning "second request," telling me that they were still awaiting my vet's approval on a prescription. It occurred to me that this might be a good idea for resending of the pending subscription notices.

That would be logical as the message with the quote would 'belong' to Alice (and assuming Alice was not excluded also).

Thanks, Andy, that's perfect.

So, if Bob is excluded from the new group and sent a message, then that would not get ported over, but presumably if Alice responded to Bob, quoting him, that quoted message would still get transferred over?

Reorder by what exactly? The contents of a photo album can currently be sorted by Name, Date Posted or Date Taken, with either "direction" beng available within each category.

Go to an Album of your choice and click on it. Above the banner with the album title, at the right hand side, there is a grey button with Sort by xxxx on it. Try that!

Are you looking for some different sort order to the above?

The one function I miss from Y Groups is the Re-order function in Photo Albums, but maybe one day we will get that function in Groups.io.

Hi Mark,

thanks.  The updated map view format and map link work well for me.

I'd also like to suggest that the column headings on the map view list stay fixed below the map as you scroll down the list. Currently they disappear behind the map.

Regards,
Andy

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • CHANGE: When viewing a database table in map view, changed the formatting of the rows to match the non-map view and added in the ability to collapse columns.
  • CHANGE: When viewing a database table with an address, the [Map] link now opens up in the new page.
  • NEW: New /getpastmembers API endpoint and lots of little API documentation fixes.
  • CHANGE: Changed the expiry of login links from 2 hours to 24 hours.
  • NEW: Barracuda Networks firewalls are sometimes blocking messages from us, for reasons I don't yet understand. The bounce message was being interpreted as a hard bounce, but the blocks are not consistent, so I've changed the bounce parsing for these messages to treat them as soft bounces instead.
  • CHANGE: For emails originating from the website, we replaced the X-Originating-IP header with two new headers, X-Originating-Location and X-Originating-Platform
  • NEW: When specifying a yahoo group to transfer, you can now specify a list of people to exclude from the transfer process.
  • INTERNAL: More work on automating adding and monitoring new machines.
  • NEW: Upcoming event summary email for premium groups.
  • NEW: In pending subscription notifications, include the pending subscriber's platform, browser, location and IP address.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Mark

I find it difficult to support this proposal. It's likely that the person is already subscribed. Encouraging them to subscribe a second address does not serve to explain what happened and will only cause further confusion when they begin to receive duplicate messages from the group.

I like this idea, but for my chorus group, an event summary every week would be overkill because we don't have that many events and they're fairly spread out; therefore, we'd see the same ones listed in the summary email for several weeks in a row. However, I think a summary once a month would work nicely for us. Would it be possible to add an option to send the event summary monthly?

There's now a dropdown in group settings to select either weekly Friday delivery or monthly delivery of the summary email.

Cheers,

When the user sees the message
You are not subscribed to this group with this email

I think it would be helpful to shorten the pink area up to the length of the text
You are not subscribed to this group with this email

then immediately to the right of the message
show the button
Join This Group

this makes more intuitive sense
