I notice that the help page is still out of date as it states you cannot invite members to join a subgroup. Andy

Hi Mark,
are we likely to see movement on any of these suggestions anytime soon? Making an address field on a database table a link that is passed to google maps would be a big help to start with. Regards, Andy

Re: Ability to #transfer Yahoo post #attachments please?!
Bob, I should have been more clear. I meant, "what will it cost over-and-above the Premium package price?"
I am a Network Administrator by trade and, as a result, am also very familiar with database capabilities and technology. I quickly built a fairly powerful D-Series desktop on my personal Azure account, installed PG Offline and proceeded to download all 91,336 messages and 350 MB of files from my Yahoo group in less than 6 hours without any scary lockouts I was told would certainly occur. So, I now know for a fact that it is possible to download the Attachments because I'm looking at them on my desktop. What I don't understand is why this hasn't already been available for many years as part of the transfer process, especially when attachments are built into messaging here. It doesn't make sense from a future business standpoint, either, when very serious maintenance issues at Yahoo are becoming painfully obvious and indicate Groups won't be around much longer. I will not be the only one asking for this when Yahoo decides to pull the plug. So, to clarify, I would be willing to pay a reasonable hourly rate for an appropriate person within the Groups.IO organization to do the necessary database work in lieu of a standard procedure. We want to move here because we know GIO's historical ties to eGroups and Yahoo, employing a similar UX, is well-maintained and supported. If no one will help us, we will be forced to use phpBB or some other package to accomplish what we need and Groups.IO will not have us as a customer.

I can't answer your question other than to say the answer has always been that the feature is not available. If you want to try to negotiate a different answer, you will need to contact support at groups dot io. However, if you have the attachments from PG Offline, could you manually upload them as files to groups.io. -- Gerald

Jim, based on what Ancestry costs, I'd say that the cost for a transfer from Yahoo is fairly inexpensive.

Ability to #transfer Yahoo post #attachments please?!
I have successfully backed up our Yahoo Group with PG Offline, complete with Attachments, Files, Links and Photos.
I also note that messages on Groups.IO have the exact same attachment capability. If PG Offline can copy message attachments from Yahoo, why then is Groups.IO unable to do the same? We are a genealogy group. We're don't have to have the links but we need our attachments. At last count, we have about 2,600 attachments spread over 91,000 posts that requires only about 350 MB of storage. There is no point in moving to Groups.IO without them. If this is service for which we must pay, how much will it cost? What do we have to do to get this done?

Mobile App (especially for Andrioid)
Hi,
Is there a mobile app for Groups.io? About Myself: I had a yahoo group of 3000+ members from 2005 to 2013. With Yahoo Groups unfriendly modifications, I left yahoo groups and tried hosting a phorum forum on my website, but was unsatisfied with the results. Then migrated to FB Groups and has a group with 18,000+ members now . But to be frank, I dislike FB Groups, and want to quite FB. I loved the good old yahoo groups a lot and now with Groups.io I realize that it gives almost the same and more functionalities. But may be FB is more mobile friendly and this is an era when people are more into mobiles than PC. Most of my FB group users too access my FB group from mobile and not from PC. So if groups.io had a mobile app version, it would have been great. I know that groups.io is a responsive site and can be accessed from mobile as well. But the experience is not good enough, and may be a dedicated mobile app (especially for android) to access groups.io from mobile would be a great value addition. Thanks and regards, Sreenadh OG

Re: Scales of Justice
Mark could probably add a tooltip on the scales, so computer web users could hover the mouse over it and see the word "Moderated" appear. That might also help those using screen readers.

Ah, sorry, just made plainly evident as the above posted. The scales indicate moderation. Still, is there a spot here where other icons and acronyms are defined? Sheepish grin here __________

With apologies again for another basic question (I did dig around but couldn't find the answer to this), what does the scales-of-justice icon on some topics (including the robust one on the values ("paid vs free policy")) indicate? And, so I can be a better fisherman versus acceptor of fish, where on the site are icons (and maybe even groups.io specific acronyms) defined, if they are? As always, many thanks!

A values page sounds delicious! Will you be "more plainly" (for want of another term/description) drawing attention to the values during sign up (to avoid the scenario of an owner (unknowingly) buying into values that members might not share)?

Hi All, To close out this discussion, here's what I've done: - I've moved the Indivisible link (fixed!) down to the non-profit section of the FAQ. - I've added a new section to Help on types of groups that are not permitted. - I will be adding a values page, at which point I'll move the Indivisible link to that page. I'm excited about creating a values page; thank you Maria for the idea. And here's a picture of Linus, who would very much like you to feed him. Thanks, Mark
