Jim,

I can't answer your question other than to say the answer has always been that the feature is not available. If you want to try to negotiate a different answer, you will need to contact support at groups dot io.

However, if you have the attachments from PG Offline, could you manually upload them as files to groups.io.

We are a genealogy group. We're don't have to have the links but we need our attachments. At last count, we have about 2,600 attachments spread over 91,000 posts that requires only about 350 MB of storage. There is no point in moving to Groups.IO without them.

If this is service for which we must pay, how much will it cost? What do we have to do to get this done?

Jim, based on what Ancestry costs, I'd say that the cost for a transfer from Yahoo is fairly inexpensive.
It's one year on the Premium program which you can look up by using the Pricing link in the footer of the screen

With Yahoo Groups unfriendly modifications, I left yahoo groups and tried hosting a phorum forum on my website, but was unsatisfied with the results. Then migrated to FB Groups and has a group with 18,000+ members now . But to be frank, I dislike FB Groups, and want to quite FB. I loved the good old yahoo groups a lot and now with Groups.io I realize that it gives almost the same and more functionalities. But may be FB is more mobile friendly and this is an era when people are more into mobiles than PC. Most of my FB group users too access my FB group from mobile and not from PC. So if groups.io had a mobile app version, it would have been great. I know that groups.io is a responsive site and can be accessed from mobile as well. But the experience is not good enough, and may be a dedicated mobile app (especially for android) to access groups.io from mobile would be a great value addition.

Mark could probably add a tooltip on the scales, so computer web users could hover the mouse over it and see the word "Moderated" appear. That might also help those using screen readers.

Ah, sorry, just made plainly evident as the above posted. The scales indicate moderation.

Still, is there a spot here where other icons and acronyms are defined?

With apologies again for another basic question (I did dig around but couldn't find the answer to this), what does the scales-of-justice icon on some topics (including the robust one on the values ("paid vs free policy")) indicate?   And, so I can be a better fisherman versus acceptor of fish, where on the site are icons (and maybe even groups.io specific acronyms) defined, if they are?

As always, many thanks!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. But in any case I haven't decided how I will promote the (not yet written) values page.

A values page sounds delicious!

Hi All,

To close out this discussion, here's what I've done:

- I've moved the Indivisible link (fixed!) down to the non-profit section of the FAQ.
- I've added a new section to Help on types of groups that are not permitted.
- I will be adding a values page, at which point I'll move the Indivisible link to that page. I'm excited about creating a values page; thank you Maria for the idea.

And here's a picture of Linus, who would very much like you to feed him.

I'm unclear on how that would help with delivery of messages from a
specific domain, unless you actually mean messages being delivered /to/
that domain.

Yes, the proper fix is to re-write the From line for messages sent from a Samsung address to a Samsung address. I will revisit this at some point and do a proper fix.

Thanks,

I will take advantage of the opportunity to push again for a possible change wherein the member's groups.io auto-sig is not considered part of the quoted text when a message is sent by email. The sigs currently never show up in displayed or emailed messages send by members via email, because they're added at the very bottom and considered part of the quoted text.

I spent part of the long weekend re-writing the code that figured out which parts of a message were quoted replies (and could therefore be collapsed when viewing them in the archives). The code was a mess before; I'm much happier with it now. As part of that, we no longer collapse signatures when viewing messages in the archives.

Please let me know if you see any strange behavior.

Hi All,

It appears there was a mistake in today's update of the anti-virus scanner that we use, clamav. It was incorrectly marking a lot of files as having a virus. Others have seen the same. I've disabled that particular virus signature for now.

Thanks,
Mark

For the group rules, it’s probably best to use the “group guidelines” notice. That also appears on the “guidelines” tab on the site and can be automatically sent both monthly and to new members. Less to maintain.

Got it. You're right - it's nice to have such option. I would use it to send a traditional welcome message and then the group rules. Really cool :)
