Has this gotten any further consideration (other than the tit for tat that had ensued :-) ).

Ive just run across several instances where manipulating attachments (PDFs) and pix needed to be included when message editing and couldn’t.  I wasn’t even able to paste a link to the url of the  PDFs (as a poor workaround.). I could explain why this was needed (but it’s irrelevant to the request to add that feature to editing.)

Thx.

These features are available with YahooGroups, and for those
transitioning to Groups.io, you will miss them.

I had intended to request the exact same items that Ms V did.
They are valid, and help moderators and users alike.

Having a valid reason for subscribing to a group helps the
moderator(s) filter out the idiots, spammers, and mindless
individuals. This issue of undesirable candidates is a
constant issue for my group.

"Joined" vs "Applied For" is self explanatory.

Notification of uploads makes members aware of changes, and
also shows the group is still alive. In YahooGroups, this is
a checkbox in the upload window.

Please consider these requests. Thank you.

Hi,

I pick up some old requests frequently asked for, since I find them
essential for group management and miss them very much :

-When applying for membership to group make available an option to
add a sentence or two as to *why s.o. is applying*.

-After application is completed the term “*joined” is misleading*.
*“Applied for”* or s.th.similar would be more helpful. *“Joined”*
makes sense when application is approved and membership is achieved.

-*Automatic notification*to owners and moderators *when files, photos
are uploaded* would be very helpful in order to avoid unfitting or
misleading uploads. This should be an *optional feature* to be chosen
in “notifications”.

Best wishes

The last request seems clear to me - Automatic notification to owners and moderators when files, photos are uploaded would be very helpful in order to avoid unfitting or misleading uploads. This should be an optional feature to be chosen in “notifications”.

This is quite different to the current feature which allows members to choose to send a message to all members of the group on each upload.

The problem with automatic emails generated to the owner/moderator on uploading is that this could be a lot of emails if one member uploads many files or photos. A more important issue is that if they should not have been uploaded (because they break the policy of the group for such uploads), then the horse has already left the stable. Later deletion of the file or photo after the members have been notified by email of the uploaded file or photo is too late.

I would prefer to have an optional feature (default value off, to preserve the current situation) to apply moderation to uploads of files and/or photos. This would then queue the uploads and allow owners or moderators to decline or allow them, with or without messages to the original poster (just like moderating messages). In addition to applying moderation, would be the option to generate an email so that the owner/moderator is informed of the file or photo waiting in the moderation queue (default off to preserve the current situation).

Regards

John Russell

Mark,
I became aware of this from a discussion on the GMF:

Is your group associated with Indivisible? Please contact support, and we will upgrade your group to Premium for free.

VERY inappropriate!  And suggest/request it be removed. Or rename the io platform to make it clear that it is a politically oriented platform.

If you want to support or promote ANY political agenda you should do so privately and not via policies on io. Yes, it’s your baby but it should remain neutral.  The members’, users’, and paid or unpaid groups’ leanings, left right center up or down, is their own business, as YOURS should also be.

And BTW, it’s no indication whether I support (or don’t) Indivisible.

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • SYSADMIN: Work to mitigate new Intel ZombieLoad exploit.
  • BUGFIX: In the API endpoint /updategroup, if there was an error, it was returned along with the group object, resulting in an unparseable mess.
  • BUGFIX: The subgroup direct add email didn't parse HTML direct add messages correctly, so the HTML was visible in the email.
  • CHANGE: Tweaked wording of FBL unsub email.
  • NEW: We now will resize HEIC images based on group settings (previously we were unable to resize them, so passed them through untouched).
  • BUGFIX: Found and fixed a memory leak in the webserver.
  • CHANGE: Changed the application fee for donations from 20% to 5%.
  • SYSADMIN: Added a new web server and retired final web server running CentOS 6.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Game of telephone. All the features requested in the original post were previously requested; not sure why they're being repeated here. Poster is a non-native speaker of English, if that helps explain the language issue. The feature requested by Ken already exists. The thread is basically a no-op. :)

I'm not sure I understand it either; it all looks a bit muddled.

However the original post reads Automatic notification to owners and moderators when files, photos are uploaded would be very helpful... which is not the same thing as an optional notification to members when something is uploaded, which currently exists for Files if not Photos.

Like Bob I am "confused".I think this topic requires a reset so that we have a much clearer view of what is being sought.

You confuse me.  "to miss" smething means thst you once had it or the ability to use it on groups.io.
to the best of my knowledge these did not exist here.
Also very confusing is your use on non-standard abbreviations for words.  For clarity and better understanding by those who read this group your really should not abbreviate any words other than those with commonly known abbreviations such as States and organizations, etc. One my totally misunderstand your meaning by "making up" an incorrect word from your abbreviation

Mark,

Well, ok, as long as it doesn't last a SINGLE SECOND past five minutes!!! :-)
Seriously, thanks. These notifications are greatly appreciated, especially in contrast to other sites' total lack of them.

Hi Mark,

Thank you. That will help those who aren't computer savy.

Hi Ken,

Unfortunately people are going to mis-read things, regardless of what they say. Especially with pre-conceived notions. That said, I've tweaked the message a bit. It now starts:

You have been automatically removed from GROUPNAME because your Email Service Provider reported to us that one or more messages sent to you from GROUPNAME has been marked as spam.

We suggest that you check your spam box as soon as possible to see if your Email Service Provider has diverted other legitimate messages into it.

Thanks, Mark

I requested the same thing a long time ago. Some other sites with "Likes" allow to easily see all your Likes. It's the one possibly valuable use I can see for the feature.

As a proactive use (and with misgivings of causing offense to Mark) I'd recommend an effort to quantify and total 'Likes'.

My usage as a non-email group owner and member of many, is to create (other than by bookmarking/ favourites) - my own or others visible to use as a tracker for valuable, cogent or specially usefull information (i.e. my main area of interest is historical groups and photographs etc.).

As there's no other way to highlight useful/ efficient/ accurate information contained in or attached to messages, other than copying each and every piece of documentation/ text out to a separate database. Maybe a sidebar link or under the 'Topics' pull-down menu (listing personal and all sub-menus perhaps?).

I do not require- tracking others; counting group or egotistical targets to be shown.
Thanks for reading,

I agree. When I saw our reminder earlier in the week I thought 'why
does it say all that'. It is not an improvement, sorry.
