PayPal takes 2.9% + 30 cents for normal stuff.  for nonprofits it's 2.2% + 30 cents.

Stripe looks pretty steep to me
GoFundMe starts at 10% and  Mightycause (ex Razoo) was only 6% last I checked.

Possibly I missed something from Mark?

Changes to the site this week:

• CHANGE: For events added by email, we consider events up to one year from now (the previous limit was 30 days).

Hi All,

I have just rolled out the ability for premium groups to request donations from their members. There's a new Donations tab under the Admin sidebar menu, where you can create and manage donation requests. Groups that have open donation requests will see a new Donations tab in the normal group sidebar where members can view open donation requests.

Here is the text you see when you go to the Admin Donations page for the first time:

• We use Stripe.com to accept credit card payments. In order to accept donations, you will need to have a Stripe account.
• Clicking the Connect with Stripe button will take you to a page to create a new Stripe account or connect an existing Stripe account. Stripe accounts are free.
• Once you've connected a Stripe account, you will be able to create donation requests and your members will be able to donate using a credit card.
• The Groups.io processing fee is 20%, which includes all credit card processing fees.
• When you create a donation request, it is considered open, which means that members can submit donations. You can close donations when they are complete.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for improvements.

Some message of my group (old Y!G…) use prefix for hashtag to the subject.

For example "[Proxy] Victory Force Blog Site - Samurai Warrior Heroes" could convert to "Victory Force Blog Site - Samurai Warrior Heroes #Proxy"

Possibility to have function to automaticaly change it?

When one opens a Groups.io database, there are no instructions at the top telling a member how to add a new record.  That seems to have kept a lot of our members from adding to the databases in the groups I moderate.  Moreover, the "Add Row" button isn't intuitive to non-programmers and it in the wrong location.

Recommendation - Add the following to the Groups.io wishlist:

Create a new "Add New Record" button at the top of the database to replace the current "Add Row" button at the bottom of the database.

To illustrate the problem, following is an exchange with one of my new members on the subject.

I wasn't talking about tubes not being able to be saved from the message area of the group. I was talking about PNG, GIFS and JPEG's Unless they are attached and you save from the attachment, they do not get the name that the graphic was assigned. It is replaced by a number.   Now those images might be named correctly because I showed them as attachments. But when it was saved from the body of the email it was assigned the #0 as it's name. I didn't rename it to prove a point. That is how it turned out when I saved it from the message area   The only way to show this is to embed the images and not attach them.      These have the name 0 when saved from the message area      This has 0 (1) when it was saved from the same email            This one's name became 2  and this one was 3    They lose their real name.   Tubes are Paint Shop Pro images and cannot be used in email. They have to be attached.

I'm left wondering why this has not been answered for two weeks?
So I shall add my 30 years understanding and see if that assists.

When a graphic or Paint Shop Pro tube is sent in a message and then it is saved by email, the name of the tube or graphic is associated with the tube.

 

A valid graphic file, if not mutilated or distorted should be visible.
Never heard of 'tubes'- don't use Windows or work in that environment any longer.

On looking it up I find 'tubes' is a proprietory format used by  Paint Shop Pro. Ergo, it is not an 'internet' STANDARD format of graphic. Problem solved.

Zip the files and instruct users to download an unzip using that programme in order to see/ use.
That is the problem- expecting non-standard formats to appear?

As to naming- that I see as solely the posters responsibility.
I see many (automated-professional) systems that indeed use natural language for technical subjects (photo histories etc.) while others provide no attempt at naming conventions at all.

Similarly the average user, will reply and attach something from their collection- unknown why (as it has never happened to me using my Macbook) which will result in 0-1-2-3- etc as you say.

My Solution: If I have to save that photo or graphic and the subject material is not extremely obvious, then I always copy some plate text from its container page/ message first then Save As and add my own title.

Note: TIF/ TIFF are a Graphic Standard format used by archivists and collections everywhere, but do not display within web browsers. Therefore they have to be downloaded to obtain satisfaction. Good people add a similar jpg/jpeg to show the article in question, but it will be at a much reduced resolution.

When the same tube is saved from the message area it is given a number like 0, 0(1), etc. So when members go to save these graphics from the message area, they do not have the name of the image.

They can't even saved correctly. Now if you were to save the images from the message area for all of the messages you would get multiple images named 0, some with 0 (1), some with 0 (2) if they were all in the same message. Now you go to another message and save the 1 graphic there you would get 0 all over again.

"<xyz+owner@groups.io>" by itself makes me think it comes from a moderator of the xyz group

"The Groups.io Team" makes me think there's a small group of individuals, and one of them is responsible - or it's just spam.

I believe your suggestion would resolve the issue for most of the non-technical people who now believe their group moderator unsubscribed them. Those who look at the actual return address probable are savvy enough to understand what happened.

do you immediately think, "Oh, that's a message from the owner that they sent," or, "That's an automated message"?

Most of us will think the latter because, "The Groups.io Team," the display name, is what is considered the most indicative of the origin, regardless of the actual address shown with it.  An alternate display name is often used as a mechanism to differentiate such.

Sorry, you seem to have missed my point: I want to make it clear that the process is automatic, and that the unsubbing was NOT a deliberate action by some moderator/owner.

That would use a Display Name reflecting the signature within the
message, while preserving the From address so that any reply from the
(former) member will go to the group owners/mods.

I don't see anything wrong in having replies to such notifications going to the moderators

In most email interfaces I've used the Display Name is more prominent
than the actual address, so I think this would address the concern.
