At the risk of being given a time out, I have to say I absolutely detest the new "landing/feed" page.  No one I know of has ever complained about the previous version.   If I need a landing, I will call NASA.     Yeah, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

Yes! I think that's a very cool idea.
Move the "Send Notice To Group When Event Happens ..." to the "reminder section" with a checkbox

Then have buttons as you mention for :

"Add Event"
"Add Event & Invite Group"

and when/if you go in to edit it:

"Update Event"
"Update Event & Group" ( or something - maybe same language used when you edit a post after it's been published?)

I think that is a great suggestion Charlie!

I want embedded a database table of one of my groups.io to external website. Possibilities?

That's correct. I was looking at an obsolete source. My point was that just because some other website/social network does something doesn't mean that groups.io should copy it.

I have no problem with other people voicing their opinions and I'm sorry you feel that way.

I'm pretty much done here as well.

Surprise you don't know everything.
Fotki doesn't have free accounts. They are all paid accounts.

By the way - it seems everyone else's opinions can't be made.
Yours are the only ones that count.
I am done - put a fork in me

It is the way of the future.
So far I only had to look at the feed page once.
I can go to all the groups I am in without even viewing the feed page unless I want to.
Your apology is accepted.

I'm sorry. I had no intention of being mean. But the fact the Fokti has a feed page like this one is no more relevant than that.

Nobody I know from my groups, including other moderators, likes the feed. I've heard comments ranging from "I don't find it useful" to "I detest it." (These are off-beta comments.) I've put out a message to my main group about the change (I've called it the "new look," without judgment) about how to revert to the previous home page for people who are in a lot of groups or who prefer the "old look." I have not yet taken any sort of poll, formal or informal, of my group members because we/they now have a way around it. But everything I've confirms my initial strong negative impression of this page. As Jeremy says, I think providing even minimal customization could really turn that around.

The function of the feed is to provide a feed of recent activity, the form it's presented in does that. I don't see distractions or frills in the feed.
It's quite minimalist actually. Shows us: active topics/new - upcoming events/ new files/ new photos/new subgroups/new chats/ and only shows them if they actually have new content.
But - in it's current form, which is rigidly divided by group - it doesn't do that in way - unless you're only in one group (and AIUI we are all (also) in the Updates group, are there any such people?).

As it is, it is a partial list of your groups (only those with recent activity!), showing their description and recent activity (which may be the last few actions, or may go back a month), so rather long - to go to other groups you may have to scroll a long way - and organised by last activity time (so, when that was yesterday or earlier, on an apparently random basis). Not something I feel really useful, or usable.

If redone to give an overall view, across groups of "active topics/new - upcoming events/ new files/ new photos/new subgroups/new chats/ ", and with the ability to tailor to show what we want - and not we don't - then, yes I can see it being be very useful.

moderated Re: Feed view now the default

Jeremy,

It's on the pale grey bar, near the top (but below the blue logo bar, with the Your Groups drop-list), that is above the main page contents. For Topics and Hashtag views, what I see is 'Your Groups' (with icon) - in blue and under-lined, so a link, hovering on which shows it as to https://groups.io - and is followed by (in black) name/description of view (All topics, #Muted Hashtags, etc.).

Oh, I thought you were talking about Topics and Hashtags within a group's pages:

Screenshot of
top left Topics page in beta group

I couldn't imagine why you would see something different in the breadcrumb (pale grey) bar. But you were talking about home pages:

Screenshot of
upper left corner of home page topics

So now I get it. Yes, that link text is misleading because the URL is to the home page, whichever one you currently see. I think that qualifies as a bug worthy of report to support@groups.io.

Being taken to "all topics" after clicking on either groups.io or "your groups" happened to me once and then stopped. I don't remember what I was doing before that but I know I was not in Topics or Hashtags view. I can't be more specific, but we have in common the phenomenon of being taken to "all topics" when the expectation was to be taken to the groups list. So if this happens again I'll try to be more observant about what happened before that.

Jeremy,

But unfortunately not the - presumably related - issue of the 'Your Groups' link at the top of Topics and Hashtags views, which now seems to have rather random effects as to where you go:

What Your Groups link? I'm not seeing any such on the Topics or Hashtag views.

Unless you mean the Your Groups drop-list in the logo bar. I've not seen any misbehavior with it. But then I almost always use it to pick a specific group. Until yesterday I'd quite forgotten it has a Manage My Subscriptions item at the bottom. Is that what you mean? If it was broken it seems now to be fixed.

Clicking it now seems to be consistently taking me to the 'All topics' view; but this is not where I expect to go: the 'Your Groups' page. For that I have to click on 'Your groups' in the left hand menu column (same words, same logo, but different destination). For the Groups, Feed and Calendar views, it's not present - at that place is 'Your ~', in black as non-link view name.

Along Jim's thoughts... On the emailed versions, would it make sense to remove the "Reply to Sender" ink, and have "Private" & "Reply to Group"? And then that "Private" link would then start some other action that allows you to reply to sender?

OF COURSE NOT.

Actually, a small "flag" in the reply link could tell the web site what sort of reply to generate.

That sort of thing aside, the current button colors and sequence of drafting a reply before deciding if it's a reply to group or sender isn't logical to me.

Actually, for some of us the "reply to sender" option never shows up in some of the groups we are subscribed in. So we have to go to the website, , view the message online then click "reply to sender"

On my groups it is similar, perhaps nearer 80% though the group owners rarely use the web interface.

No they don't, they click on the Reply to sender link at the bottom of the email which (on all 3 of my email clients/platforms) sends an email directly to the sender.
