Re: Activity Log Anomaly
Chris,
This has been brought up before. There's even an entry on the TODO list to cover it, https://trello.com/c/dIIABeqs/150 Duane

Activity Log Anomaly
Chris Jones
Mark; I don't think this has been raised before, but if it has then I apologise...
There is an anomaly in what appears (or more correctly doesn't appear) in the Activity Log, illustrated by this very recent example.
Numbers 1 & 3 above resulted in entries appearing the Activity Log, but numbers 2 and 4 did not. This seems wrong; should it ever be necessary it is impossible to follow an audit trail where one half of the exchanges are not logged - not even their existence, never mind the content. The "Actions List" includes Messages to +owner but there is nothing listed (as far as I can see) for Messages sent by Owner. Is this "missing action" deliberate or an oversight? IMHO it would be much better if both sides of any exchange appeared in the Activity Log. Regards, Chris

Marvin Hunkin <neilmarvin@...>
Hi. have noticed someone spoofing on a number of groups, I am on, and pretending to be me, or another person, and so, I know groups.io has multiple servers, databases, and multiple redundencies. My question is, how can groups.io better protect security from such people as spoofing, and also hacking the site. So what measures, does mark or the other owners of the site. This is becoming a problem. And did speak to a owner of a group, and the only way to then get rid of the spoofer, which was extreme, on techtalk-chat, was to put the whole group in moderation. And think the owner did find the person who was spoofing, but not an easy process. Any thoughts. Marvin.

I teach JAWS as one of my primary ways of making income (and am fully sighted, for the record). The first thing I teach my students is that you cannot assume that anything is a JAWS problem versus a browser problem versus a webpage problem (and sometimes it's a combination of the two) without trying other browsers with the same webpage and other screen readers with your chosen browser, and alternative browsers, if the problem persists. Sometimes you can find the fix is working with an alternative. Sometimes you find precisely where the problem lies, and know who to report it to. But that's incumbent on you, who relies on assistive technology, to be able to do the troubleshooting that, unfortunately, comes with the territory. The world at large is not likely to know the first thing about it nor, sadly, care unless you can make them focus on the issue as exactly as you can. Being a Mac user with VoiceOver puts you into minority of a minority to begin with position, which makes it even more likely that you will have to be able to get others to focus on what needs to be fixed once you find it. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 ~ H.L. I think some of you're missing the point. The point was, that I was using a Mac with voiceover. Which is a screen reader that the blind and visually impaired use in order to read the screen on the computer. This right here, it was white was brought up on GMF about us having our own forum so that we can discuss our own issues pertaining to groups.Io now, I can see everything else just finds it since question number one was unable to be answered because there was no edit field to typing. I was not able to make Google forms act correctly, when trying to type my answer for the question. Everything else was fine. And I think that each and everyone of our opinions is definitely needed here.

Banning, though, only occurs, both in my personal opinion and in my experiences with same, for offenses so egregious and so clearly against the venue's formal rules and customs that no "direct contact" other than a notice stating, "You have been banned and cannot appeal due to [reason here]," is sent. On one venue where I moderate, as an example, spamming is strictly forbidden. If a member joins and their first post is spam, and unquestionable spam with not a shred of doubt about it, they are simply banned. No notice is given at all. For someone bends or breaks a rule, or has an uncharacteristic but serious outburst (not a simple fit of pique, which should be tolerated among adults), they get a warning, and often in public. If they persist in the heat of that moment, they get a private sterner warning and are put on moderated status before it's sent, and are told they are being moderated. If they persist after that, whether in a private response to the moderation notice or as soon as moderation is lifted, they're banned and sent a notice saying so, without explanation, because by that point they absolutely know why they've been banned based on what has come before. None of the above, other than spammer banning, happens at all often. I can only think of one non-spammer banning in all the groups.io groups I frequent in the entire time I've been here, which I think has been since opening week. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 ~ H.L. Hello Mark, I just took the survey but I had a heck of a time using jaws you have to keep playing with the tab and inter key I wouldn’t think there would be any problems but sometime who knows what goes on behind the scenes.

Yeah well I'm not talking about Boyd. I'm talking about voiceover which is apples version of a screen reader. I'm glad that you were able to answer the question. But I was unable to type in the answer area to answer the question that's the point I was trying to make. I see I'm getting nowhere.
