Unexpected breakage last night
Hi All, Last night around 8:30pm pacific time I upgraded the Go toolchain from 1.9.4 to 1.10.3 and did a release to the site. This is the software that builds the software that runs the site. I reviewed all the changes before I upgraded it, and was confident that nothing would break (I upgrade the Go toolchain on a regular basis). Unfortunately and completely surprising to me, it did break parts of the site that deal with uploading files. Invites, direct adds, and profiles were the main areas affected. The bug would result in blank pages or your changes not going through. I've changed the code to deal with the new behavior, and everything should be working again. Thanks, Mark

Closing a Poll automatically
Beth Weld
My group extensively uses polls to vote on various items, but we also use polls to take attendance every day during a multi-day meeting. If the meeting lasts 3 days, then we have 3 polls, and the members should only be able to vote in the actual day's poll during that 24 hours. We have members all over the world so currently use the Central Time Zone as the official "day". The issue is that someone has to manually close a poll at the exact time to limit the activity of the members voting in the wrong poll (should be voting in the next day's poll for example because after midnight in CST).
I have been asked to request a new feature that is very important to my group: We need a way to automatically close a poll at a certain time without manual intervention. I have also been asked to request another new feature - the ability to set up a poll in advance and have it "open" at a requested time without manual intervention. I figured that this one would be harder to implement in the current structure so am making it a separate request. Thanks a lot Beth

Netzero account?
Hi, Do you have or do you know some who has a netzero.net account? If so, can you (or your friend) send me a message to markf@corp.groups.io? The content of the message is not important (although there should be something in the message). I am debugging my DKIM parsing code, and it's failing on at least some netzero.net messages. I want to know if it's me or if it's Netzero. By sending a message to me, it goes to my Gmail corporate account, which will tell me if Google thinks the DKIM sig is valid or not. Thanks, Mark

Also, I was incorrect in stating that Office 365 implemented DMARC. They have not. They have implemented signing but not actual DMARC screening so they will fail, as well.

So I guess this fell on deaf ears... I was hopeful I could bring other groups over from Y! as I am not fond of where they are at this point but this is a deal killer for anyone on an enterprise system including Office 365 (Business and Enterprise) that are using Exchange and have their servers properly tightened to prevent spoofing of internal domains from outside sources. If Mark is considering the fixes discussed here (group-level and user-level), I would hope to get an update as to potential implantation timeframe (loose, not exact). Thanks.

Template for recurring events
#suggestion
I'd like to have a template for recurring events. With a standardized form that an admin could just plug in the changed data. Then post to the group as a whole (just like the new topic button)
So maybe in Admin>Settings>Member Notices. There could be a new Notice Type "message to the group". Then someway for admins to select the Notice, Edit it and post it as New Topic.

mygroup+owner already does that. Sure, it would be more logical to use something like "mygroup+mods", but the -owner suffix is what most of us have been used to in yahoogroups for many years.... groetjes, Ronaldo

I don't know what to make of this, sorry. -- Gerald

Hi, You can ask moderators be notified when an email is sent to the owner address (one of my group uses this method to let moderators know whenever someone sends an email to me the owner). Cheers, Joseph

It would be handy to have a mygroup+moderator alias that went to moderators and owners.
One of the first things I tried to do when setting up my first groups.io group was to send mail to the moderators. Since mygroup+owner worked, I sent mail to mygroup+moderator, which didn’t work.
One sample use: I do most the moderation, but I was going camping for a few days. I let the other moderators know, so that moderation would still be quick.
For most of my groups, all the moderators are owners, but as a group member, I’d probably still try and send email to moderator if there was a moderation-related question.

Thanks both for your responses. Posting here seems to have been a newbie mistake on my part, I did so because I saw that Mark often posts in this forum and assumed that it was the way to communicate with him.
I'll pass on your feedback to the rest of the team. Regards, Peter

Feature Request / Suggestion. Ability to search the title field in pictures
#suggestion
I own a group with over four thousand pictures. It would be a good feature to be able to search the title field in the photos section to be able to find related pics. Without a search functionthere is basically no way of utilizing the wealth of knowledge stored in these photos.
Thanks! Peter Dubé
