That's because in https://beta.groups.io/js/displaytime-0.2.2.js at line forty-something,

absoluteTimeTitle = momentDay.format("MMM D, YYYY " + timeFormat);

Should perhaps be

absoluteTimeTitle = momentDay.format(dateFormat + " " + timeFormat);

moderated Re: web-based questionnaire for restricted groups a pressing issue #suggestion

I just wanted to add my own +1 to this request. It would be helpful in our group to have more information about a potential member besides their email address, and a questionnaire (or even a text box) would go a long way to help us in moderating new users!

Thanks,

I realize this is an old thread. Is this suggestion still under consideration? I know some of our members would appreciate being able to set vacation holds. Going slightly beyond the suggestion here, it would be nice to also set a beginning date as well as an end date so the hold could be set it up in advance.

moderated Small icon-like image for a group #suggestion

The web pages within a group, such as Messages and in particular for this request, Admin - Pending, are very plain and consistent. I like it that way; it seems brisk and businesslike. There is a disadvantage, though, for those of use who are members (and moderators) of several vaguely similar Groups. All groups look the same, apart from the words.

Please add a small image, logo, icon or thumbnail to identify the group, and place it somewhere an most or all of the Web pages which apply specifically to that group. I suggest it could be fitted on the pale grey stripe with the house symbol and the name of the group. For example, this group might use a Greek letter beta as its image. The control for setting it could go with the one for the cover photo; a 1:15 scale copy of the cover photo might be usable for some groups.

I'm thinking of something to identify the group in the same way as the profile photo helps identify the subscriber. It might also appear in the find-a-group lists. Then an overworked moderator, checking and approving late into the night, would have an extra cue to remind him- or herself which group she or he was working on. I have found myself reviewing moderated messages with my brain in gear for entirely the wrong  group, and the additional hint of a little bit of coloured picture at the top of the window might help.

To export to a file

Open the database to the normal view (e.g. group - Databases - Links) and scroll to the buttons at the bottom. Right-click the green Export Table button, and choose Save Link As... from the pop-up menu. Save as appropriate-name.csv.

[I'm using Firefox on Windows; the instructions will be similar but not identical for other browsers on other operating systems.]

Export Table suggestion 1

The name provided by Groups.io for that download is downloadtable.txt. It would save a little messing about in the file-save-as dialog box if the name were table-name.csv with table-name filled in with the name of the table.

Export Table suggestion 2

The exported data do not include the ID or Updated columns. It might be helpful to include those columns.

Shal, I'm not au courant with cid et al but the Add Picture tool selects only from a local drive, not from the group folders. That would be a worthwhile improvement but it should produce an html <img> tag to the image file and not result in another copy of the same image in the Emailed Photos album.

think I've caught it converting cid to data; and storing pasted or inserted images (using the Add Picture tool) as cid, as in this message.

Not html though, I think those must always be to a public site.

Re: setting to moderate every thread a member starts #suggestion

I'm afraid you've lost me. I can't see how what Shal described would encourage thread hijacking, because people wouldn't know it applied to them (plus I don't think people hijack threads deliberately, they just don't think).

In any event this moderating option would be in addition to existing moderating options, not instead of them. With posters such as those you describe, I would have thought you would just deal with it as you currently do, presumably by moderating them permanently. But for my members who start threads with meaningless subject lines such as "#intro help" when they really need "new here, problems inserting the needle #intro #subqs," this option would be great.

Tom,

While the message archive can be made publicly viewable, a visitor cannot see inline images or download a file from a hyperlink unless it is stored in an external public server.

True for the file; but an inline image may be stored in the message body itself (src=data:) or as an attachment to the message (src=cid:) and those are available to the non-member.

I haven't quite worked out how Groups.io handles <img> in all cases but I think I've caught it converting cid to data; and storing pasted or inserted images (using the Add Picture tool) as cid, as in this message.

Not html though, I think those must always be to a public site.

moderated Calendar missing "Last" function for repeating events

Michael Pavan

Some events repeat on the last <weekday> of the month, e.g. "Monthly on the Last Saturday"
which will be either the 4th or 5th Saturday of a month
(because except for non-leap year Februaries, all months have 29, 30, or 31 days).

The Calendar: Repeats: Repeat Summary automatically chooses: Fourth or Fifth
depending on the particular month when the repeating event's start date is set,
unfortunately this design does not recognize that the event could be Last, rather than Fourth or Fifth.

I suggest the fix is to make it a manual choice of: First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, or Last

moderated Publicly viewable Permissions setting for Files and Photos

Tom H

I have been exploring Groups.io as a destination for migrating a publicly viewable Wikispaces site and ran into a barrier that I had not twigged to earlier. While the message archive can be made publicly viewable, a visitor cannot see inline images or download a file from a hyperlink unless it is stored in an external public server. Moreover, messages that are posted via the web site editor and that contain images (hand edited <img> tags) and file links from the group's folders are delivered by email with broken links. Both of these issues would be solved by having Permissions settings for Files and for Photos that allow for "Publicly viewable" as an option.

Bruce Bowman sprung the request Folder-level public access to files and photos  from the question I raised in GMF. This more granular permissions control is desirable for some sites, especially (and maybe only) those that do not make the message archive publicly viewable. I would think that it is logical for Files and Photos to be publicly viewable if the message archive is, too, but I expect there will be some reason to exclude one or the other which is why I have suggested the new option be included in the existing Permissions controls. However, I can see that the current design of the controls will require two additional selections in the dropdown list, if not more, to deal with the all the possible (some improbable) combinations:

  1. Public can view
    1. Subscribers can view
    2. Subscribers can upload
Of course, I could work with Folder-level settings but would prefer to have a group-level solution earlier than a folder-level one later.

moderated Folder-level public access to files and photos #suggestion

On a note related to J's comment on wiki pages, I'd like to allow public (non-subscriber) access to select photo and file folders. This would be handy if I want to reference a photo on the site in, say, an <img> tag on the home page, or to include a link to our membership application in a Pending Subscription notice. As it is, if you're not both subscriber and logged in, those links will be broken.

There is some security risk, if you will, in having this option available for ALL such folders...check the wrong box and suddenly everybody in the world can get at stuff that maybe you didn't intend them to. At this time I envision one Public Folder in each area, in the vein of the existing Emailed Photos folder. Those with Moderator privileges or above could drop files and photos here, while the public (and subscribers) could only access them. Owners who would like to enable this feature would need to check a box to that effect in the Settings.

Not exactly a must-have kind of thing, but it would have been handy for me on more than one occasion.

Thanks,
Bruce

Personally, I have a bigger problem of people hijacking other people's threads, forcing me to engage in a split-and-merge frenzy. An option of this nature would not only fail to fix that problem, but actually encourage subscribers to do it.

Please count me as one vote in the "nay" category.

Non,

It sounds like you're looking for a forum type system, strictly (or mostly) web based. We're probably not the right solution for you.

You may well be right, a forum but one you can post to via emails.
An option to send emails in the form of the digest option (which does not have user email addresses) would be marvellous.

The Comma "," is the standard delimiter although other delimiters can optionally be supported.  see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values
"In computing, a comma-separated values (CSV) file is a delimited text file that uses a comma to separate values"
I see no benefit in supporting others.

After the Y!G transfert I have lot of message with problem of line break.

Can I find a speed solution for format the message. A Line Break Removal Tool could be add to edit function

Like this
https://www.textfixer.com/tools/remove-line-breaks.php

You can remove line breaks from blocks of text but preserve paragraph breaks with this tool.

If you've ever received text that was formatted in a skinny column with line breaks at the end of each line, like text from an email or copy and pasted text from a PDF column with spacing, word wrap, or line break problems then this tool is pretty darn handy.

You also have the option of just removing all line breaks without preserving paragraph breaks (usually double line breaks).

Use this tool because spending hours manually removing line breaks sucks if you're pasting content from something like a PDF with a weird text format where the word wrap and abrupt line break is causing problems then this tool will help you.

PS. If anyone is interested I have a short technical code article on how to remove line breaks with javascript.
