Drew,

If there is going to be an online option to mute/unmute hashtags these settings should also apply to the online message display.

I've suggested that this functionality be included in the message list filter (funnel icon). That way the user can control it easily. The filter panel currently has only a Date selector, but checkboxes to exclude muted or unfollowed threads/hashtags seems like a natural fit to me.

While this makes a great deal of logical sense, it would be very difficult to implement. Personally, l like the ability to see threads I've muted online. Being forced to unmute a topic just to see if I *really* want to unmute it strikes me as counterproductive.

I think it would be quite helpful to use the Hashtags page to allow group members to mute or un-mute various hashtags.  Each hashtag box should have a button at the bottom to "mute this hashtag" or "Un-Mute this hashtag" (depending on its current state for the user).  This would achieve several things.  1) easy to see which hashtags you have muted (maybe even including the remaining duration of the mute),  2)  easy for a new member to scan through the list of hashtags and mute those that are of no interest to them, and 3) allow a central place on the web interface to add/remove hashtag muting.

Agreed. Same for Follow / Unfollow.

In fact I think this could be two checkboxes, one for Mute and the other for Follow.

Yes, I know that only one applies, depending on the Message Selection setting in your Subscription, but I'd make both visible at all times so that you can view and adjust them without having to first go change your subscription.

Dan,

Request #1 -- in the web interface, when replying to a message when
the group is set to sender and Group, have "reply to" buttons for
Group, Sender, and Group & Sender
After you click Reply there's a "Private" button below and to the right of the composition window. This will change the green Reply to Group & Sender button to a blue Reply to Sender button. There is not an option for reply to Group (only) though.

Request #3 - Not sure how Yahoo groups does this, but when replying
to message via email, when you use the "reply" button of your email
client it puts only the sender in the "Send to:" box, but when you
click "Reply All" it puts both the sender and the group in the "send
to:" box. It would be good for IO to do the same.
That's not what happens with any of my Y!Groups. It must depend on the group's settings and/or your email interface. Not all email services interpret the Reply and Reply All functions in the same way.

when in the edit (or create) hashtag screen, and you go to pick a color for the tag you are presented with a row of color blocks to pick from.  The current color for the tag conveniently has a check mark in it but there is no clue as to which of the other colors are already in use.  It would be quite helpful if the other color blocks had a black border around them if that color is already in use by another tag in the group.

Dan, the system automatically creates a draft when composing / replying - check the Drafts selection on the left menu. Saved my butt many times.. :)

moderated Warn if leaving a page with unsent changes

Dan Hartford

HI,

When I'm in the middle of composing or replying to a message, and have typed some info into the box many times I get interrupted and then click on something else (like switch to another group, or go into the admin tool.  When this happens everything I've typed so far is lost with no warning.  What I'd like to see is that when a user has made changes to a page (or text box) and they do something to leave that page it gives a warning 'you're about to lose your changes" and an option to not do it.

Thanks -- Dan

Hi,

When replying to a message via email, if one uses the "reply" or "reply all" buttons of the email system, one can then adjust the "send to".  For example, if the group is set for replies to go to both the group and the sender one can delete one or the other on the reply.  This is very handy.  However, we don't seem to have this same capability when replying via the web interface.

Request #1  -- in the web interface, when replying to a message when the group is set to sender and Group, have "reply to" buttons for Group,  Sender, and Group & Sender

Request #2  -  in the email version of messages, at the bottom where you have buttons for who to reply to, have buttons for sender, group, group & sender when the group is set up for replies to be group and sender

Request #3  -  Not sure how Yahoo groups does this, but when replying to message via email, when you use the "reply" button of your email client it puts only the sender in the "Send to:" box, but when you click "Reply All" it puts both the sender and the group in the "send to:" box.  It would be good for IO to do the same.

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • NEW: Seperate Footers group setting, places the footer in a seperate mime chunk, needed to support PGP signatures.
  • BUGFIX: Special/HTML characters in event names/descriptions were not handled correctly in the generated ICS files.
  • NEW: 'Allow group members to download the message archives' setting.
  • CHANGE: When following a thread, insert standard message footers when we send out the initial messages.
  • BUGFIX: Footers for messages sent because we're following a thread now have the unfollow link.
  • BUGFIX: Wiki TOC links were broken if they contained special characters like parentheses.
  • CHANGE: Slight tweaks to html footers and full digests.

Have a good weekend everybody.

Mark, I'd like to revive this old thread if I might, to see if having a Comments section (and the ability for the list owner to set it as a required feature for their list) in the Membership Request screen is on the list of things to add to Groups.IO?  That comments section in Y!G is used pretty frequently for list owners, as a screening tool.  I am hoping it's on the list of things you're planning on adding?  Thanks so much for considering this.

On one of my groups I have set it so subscribers can see the Members option. Hence they can list all members including their email addresses.
This is fine as it is a small group who all know each other.

When I go into the group as a normal subscriber I was not able to see the Directory info as I had the Profile Privacy setting "Only group owners and moderators"
I changed this to "Other members of the group" and can now see two accounts, one as normal member and one as Owner. Other members have the default "Only group owners and moderators"

This options seems pointless since as owner I have made all members viewable.
So should allowing Members list override the Profile Privacy?
Can the owner set a default for  Profile Privacy?

The test I did just a few minutes back did show a status response that includes the word queued, but the email was delivered within seconds. I don't think "queued" means anything nasty. This is just the message that Hotmail returns when it receives an email. Note that this is listed under the successful delivery category on email history.

This is part of the status message: ....protection.outlook.com] 9702 bytes in 0.180, 52.629 KB/sec Queued mail for delivery

If there was an email that was rejected, it would show up under that member's email history under "Most Recent Unsuccessful Delivery" and/or in the list of bounces.

I checked also using a Hotmail account. Definitely not bouncing and promptly delivered.

Just a random idea here: would it help to give special notices a number?

Just in case more than one is sent in a short time and both cause discussions.

"Re: special notice 584" is conveniently shorter than "Re: special notice about topic such-and-such"
