Never mind, I realized I replied without actually replying to that exact message.
I changed the title and posted a new post.

Sorry about that.

Hi Mark,

I just replied to message #1718 but unlike before, I wasn't able to locate a thin blue line in front of that message after I replied.

Is the "show the message replied to line" missing?

Hey Mark,

Speaking of Delete Group,

I'm still hoping you'll separate this command in the Moderator list soon:

Modify Group Settings Or Delete Group

I need to have moderators capable of dealing with settings, but I don't want to give anyone else the right to delete the group.

Thanks,

Brenda

So, if I click on it from an unrecognized computer will the page say "Nothing happens."?

I'm so glad someone got that. :)

Glad to hear that.  I thing I would like it better if it bounced back to the sender.  So many times we send something and we think it went and it’s probably still floating around in cyber land.  Hopefully the error message will explain why it is being returned and the sender doesn’t have to try and figure out why it was returned.

All new digests will be sent out from an address that, if replied to, sends back the following error message:

You have replied to a digest message, which is not permitted.. Please click on the 'Reply to this message' link under the message you'd like to reply to, and you will be taken to a page to enter your reply.

Does that mean they won't get added to the iogroup?

Correct. We can't get their email address, so there's nothing we can do.

Stripping anything after the "two hyphens and a space"? Is this standard or optional? Can we do it to nonmoderated members too?

No, stripping the footers that we add (starting with the 'Groups.io Links'). It's always been the case that we strip those footers before messages are sent to the group. But now we're also stripping them before any messages get added to the pending message queue..

Yes, there will be a photos area. At the moment I've been focused on two main things:

- Bug fixes
- Improving the core 'list functionality'

Once things calm down I'll be able to shift back to adding new features, including photos.

Thanks!

Oops. Somehow that regressed. I've fixed the reminder intervals. I couldn't reproduce the back behavior. Can you send me off list an example of how to reproduce it?

I just fixed a bug where member leave notifications to moderators were not being sent out when someone one click unsubscribes, which explains why you weren't getting notifications. I'm sorry about that. I have verified that members leaving/resuming subscriptions are logged in the activity log, so there at least has been that record. I have not found any other bugs in the code.

However, I have also changed it so that when you click on the unsubscribe link, you are asked to verify that you wish to unsubscribe (in other words one click becomes two clicks). I did this because I found evidence in the logs that at least a couple people are behind a firewall or some other system that automatically clicks on every link in the emails they receive. This was my fear when I did the one click unsubscribe. I had done some research beforehand about this and all I read said that this wouldn't be a problem. I don't know what percentage of the population are subject to something like this.

Even with two clicks now instead of one, the system is much better than it was before (no logging in is needed, and there's the ability to resume your subscription within 3 days).

Mark
(addendum: doing some quick sleuthing, it may be that some accessibility/screen reading software is responsible for this. I'm reaching out to the people I see in the logs that have had this happen to them to get more information.)

Hi

You can send photos as attachments - someone in my group did yesterday.

There just isn’t a place to house them on the site, other than see them as attachments.

What the Instagram integration is, is a way to follow an Instagram account. Any pics posted to the followed Instagram account are automatically sent to the group. I'm not all that familiar with Instagram, but I'm guessing you could set up an account there and share it with people. Or you could follow multiple Instagram accounts.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone tried this yet? Can there be more than one person posting through the integration? Or if I enable it for my group, does that then move it into the Member Integrations area so that others can use it for their own accounts? Any limitation on the number of people using the integration?

I am not an Instagram user but I realize, especially with younger users, this would be popular.

Thanks.

locked Pending members

Duane

I've been playing with this area this morning. One thing I would like to see added to the Pending members page is a reject button with a predefinable (is that even a word?) message to be included. One of my groups is restricted to paying members of our club. I'd like a Reject to include information on how they could join, maybe even a file attachment.

I also noticed that if I declined to let them (actually my "user" account) join they were sent the Goodbye message, even though they'd never really been a member. Having the separate Reject option should take care of that.

Thanks,
Duane

As you mention, the digests are sent from ignore@groups.io, which is a
blackhole. So a simple reply to a digest won't get sent to the group. Are
you seeing people send messages with that subject line?
Not yet (we're all regulars here, right?), but I'd like to prevent it - and I do sometimes reply to digests myself, to reply to several posts of the same thread at once.

Rejecting and sending back messages sent to the "ignore" adress would be an improvement, but I'd also like those with the aforementioned subjectlines to be sent back. {I'm avoiding the word "bounce" because it has too many meanings]

Hi all,
Sorry for the vague subject, but is there a possible bug with the one click unsubscribe feature?
I am receiving concerns or complaints from members saying they have received notification that they were unsubscribed. The strange thing is we owners and moderators are not getting such notifications. Also, when we check the members pages it is discovered that they are, in fact, still subscribed.
I did write to support, but thought I would ask here as well while we are on the subject of one click unsubscribe.
Thank you, any responses greatly appreciated.
Kindest regards

Mark,

Unsubscribe links in footers will now instantly unsubscribe you.
And thankfully the link works only once. The link coding changed after I undid an authorized "unauthorized" unsubscribe. I sent the link to a friend, who used it successfully once, but the old one failed after I resumed my subscription. I haven't sent him the new one... ;-)

The danger I was concerned with is that once I make the mistake of letting an unsubscribe link for me get into the hands of a malcontent whether I would have any way to prevent them from doing it to me again later. That concern is now put to bed. Thanks!

locked New Member Defaults #suggestion

At the moment, the "New Users Moderated" checkbox is the only group preference that controls the initial setting of a new member's Membership. Why not instead have a tab of the Settings page where the management can set defaults for the initial setting for every Members' preferences?

(Note: this is an update of an earlier idea, but this time with a more descriptive title. Was: "Membership Templates".)
https://groups.io/org/groupsio/beta/message/784

At the moment this would include Email Delivery, Message Selection, Replies, and Posting Privileges.

I bring this up again as it seems a reasonable way to handle some of the concerns recently discussed. For example:

In #1679 Dano writes "Also, there was talk about an option for setting a limit on attachment size and substituting a link for messages over a certain size." I concur with his opinion that it should be part of the member's preferences. And if so, then the New Member Defaults" mechanism would provide a way for the group owners to tailor the feature to the needs of their less savvy members.

The ones I have are so old I don't think the members would be able to be contacted.  There's one that might be able to be contacted though.  I did just find a feature they have that might be worth cloning.  The "Roles" feature: Being able to create a custom role in the group and have it include a badge is pretty nice.  That was exactly what I was getting at in my post a while back about emulating certain forum tools.  Extraneous to some, awesome to others.  Not high priority by comparison to other things like photos and databases.  ;)
